Here are our school holidays for the coming year. Because Easter falls early in 2015 we have a week’s holidays in May. While we have very high rates of attendance on our school but we ask you to continue to make every effort to have your child at school every day. To ensure the best possible learning in your child’s class, it os also important that children be on time each day. That means that they should be in their líne in the yard when the bell rings at 9.10 am. We facilitate parents by supervising the yard from 8.50 onwards. Please be aware that there is no supervision before that time and that any children outside or in the school grounds before that time are there at their parent’s own risk.

Éadaí Scoile

Cheana féin i mbliana,tá páistí taréis éadaí scoile a chailliúint. Tá fhios againn gur tré thimpiste go dtógann páistí abhaile na héadaí míchearta ach is féidir leat cabhrú i dhá slí. Bí cinnte go bhfuil ainm do pháiste go soiléir ar gach píosa éadaigh agus seiceáil iad uair sa tseachtain le bhúr dtoi, ag cur ar ais aon rud nach mbaineann le do pháiste go dtí an múinteoir. Tá roinnt éadaí sa scoil le tamaill agus is féidir le aon tuismitheoir teacht agus éadaí a thógaint sara chuirfear iad go siopa Naomh Uinseann de Pól.

Already at this early stage a number of children have ‘lost’ parts of their school uniform. We know that these accidents will happen all the time but we ask you to help out in two simple ways. Firstly, please ensure that every item of your child’s uniform has their name clearly marked on it. Please check the uniform weekly to ensure that your child hasn’t taken somebody else’s by mistake and of so please return it to the teacher. There are also lost items in the school at the moment which can be claimed or taken if suitable before the remaining items are sent to the St. Vincent de Paul shop in the next week.

Ranganna Ghiotáir/Ukelele

Mark McGrath will be recommencing guitar lessons for continuing students from next Wednesday September 17th.

This year it is also proposed to start a beginners’ ukulele class aimed particularly at introducing students from 1st-3rd class to the instrument which is ideal as an introduction to instrumental playing and song accompaniment for younger students.

The ukulele has had a remarkable upsurge in popularity in recent years and is almost identical to the guitar in playing techniques but is infinitely more acessible-particularly for younger children. A reasonable beginners ukulele can  be purchased for around €30, a similar quality guitar costs €70. Mark will hold an informal session and demonstration for interested students next Tuesday Sept 16h after school in the assembly Hall. Any students and parents interested in guitar or ukulele lessons are invited to attend. A limited number of instruments are available to hire at a modest cost for new students.

Class fees are payable in terms- longer school terms are normally broken into 2 shorter terms. Last year’s fees averaged €7 per lesson and are dependent on numbers in individual groups. For further information please contact Mark tel. 085-7132946
