Do Shonraithe Teangmhála/Your Contact Details

Cinntigh le do thoil go bhfuil do shonraithe teangmhála i gceart ag an scoil.

Please ensure that all your contact details are correct in the school. In particular, we need the emergency contact number for every child to be updated as well as the correct number for our Textaparent service and the correct email address for receiving newsletters and other communications by email.

Tráthnóna Clainne/ Family Fun evening

Ní raibh deis againn ár dtráthnóna bliantúil clainne a reachtáil roimh an samhraidh agus toisc sin beidh sé ar siúl ar an gCéadaoin seo chugainn óna 4.30-6.30 pm. Beidh caisleáin sugraidh ann do na páistí agus bia agus sóláistí ar fáil do gach éinne. Is ócáid an-deas sóisialta í seo inar féidir le tuismitheoirí agus páistí bualadh le chéile. Beidh fáilte ar leith roimh ár dtuismitheoirí nua.

We didn’t have a chance before the summer to organise our annual Family Fun Evening. It will now take place instead next Wednesday afternoon from 4.30 -6.30 pm. There will be bouncy castles for the children of all age groups and some barbeque food and teas and coffees available for the adults. This is a great occasion in which parents and children get to socialise informally and we would love to see you here. In particular, we would love to see all our new parents attending. Thanks a million to our Parents Association for organising this event.

Seachtain Rothaíochta/Bike to School Week

Mar chuid de Sheachtain Soghluaiseachta na hÉireann agus na hEorpa a bheidh ar siúl an tseachtain seo chugainn, tá ár gCoiste Scoil Glas ag iarraidh ar gach éinne sa scoil rothaíocht nó siúl ar scoil más féidir leo. Cabhraíonn sé i gcónaí má ta tuismitheoir nó caomhnóir sásta dea-shampla a thaispeáint agus teacht ar rothar nó ag siúl le páistí. Má chaithfidh tú teacht sa ghluaisteán, dean iarracht le do thoil páirceáil beagáinín níos faide ón scoil agus rothaíocht nó siúl ón áit sin (sa Watershed b’fhéidir!). Beidh rothaíocht timpeall na cathrach againn ar an Aoine seo chugainn ag 9.30 am agus bheimís buíoch do thuismitheoirí go mbeadh sásta teacht linn agus cabhrú ar an lá.

As part of National and European Mobility Week next week, our Green Schools Committee is asking everybody who can to cycle or walk to school. We are told the weather is due to be great and as always, we ask parents and guardians to lead by example by cycling or walking with your children to encourage healthy lifestyles and good environmental practice. If you have to come to school by car, please consider parking as far away as possible and cycling or walking the remaining distance. Maybe we might consider venues like the Watershed rather than closer car parks just for this coming week. We will have another of our city cycles next Friday morning at 9.30 am and all help from parents on that day would be welcomed.

Coiste na dTuismitheoirí/Parents Association

Bhí cruinniú maith, dearfach ag ár gCoiste na dTuismitheoirí ar an Luan. Bhí tuismitheoirí i láthair ó roinnt mhaith ranganna ach tá roinnt eile nach raibh éinne i láthair. Mar is gnách, táimid ag lorg beirt thuismitheoir ó gach rang chun a bheith páirteach san obair don bhliain. Seol d’ainm ar aghaidh go dtí tuisti@osrai.com más maith leat cabhair a thabhairt. Beidh roinnt ócáidí deasa á n-eagrú ar mhaithe le hairgead a bhailiú á reachtáil i gcaitheamh na bliana. An cinnneadh atá tógtha ná gur ar mhaithe le banc ipads a cheannach don scoil go mbeidh na hiarrachtaí seo.

We had an excellent, positive meeting of our Parents Association on Monday night in the school. There were parents present from quite a few classes but some classes will be asked to have a representative on the committee for the year. We try to get two parents from each class so that the burden is shared. A number of nice fundraising events will take place and we have decided that the purchase of a mobile bank of ipads for the school will be the focus of our fundraising for the year. If you want to help out in any way with the work of the association, please email tuisti@osrai.com to offer your services or ideas.

Bainne Scoile/School Milk Service

Táimid ag tosú ar bhainne a ofráil sa scoil arís i mbliana ag dul lenár bpolasaí de lóin sláintiúla agus mar Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte. Tá billeog eolais ceangailte leis an email seo agus iarraimid ort é a líonadh agus a chur ar ais go dtí do mhúinteoir chomh tapaidh agus is féidir.

We are again offering our school milk service again this year as part of our Healthy Lunches Policy and as a Health Promoting School. The milk is of course supplied by AvonmoreJ. You will find an information leaflet attached and we ask you to send it back as soon as possible to your class teacher.

Íocaíochtaí ar-líne/Online Payments

Cífidh sibh go bhfuilimid ag glacadh le formhór ár n-íocaíochtaí scoile idir Bhille Scoile, turasanna, íocaíochtaí bhainne 7rl trí chóras nua ar líne. Chun chlárú brúigh ar an gcnaipe ar leathanach baile www.osrai.com.  Beimid réidh na híocaíochtaí a thosú an tseachtain seo chugainn.

You will see that we are introducing a new online payment facility for all school payments this year. In order to register yourself for these payments, including the Bille Scoile, school tours and other expenses like our milk scheme etc., please click on the button on the home page of www.osrai.com and register your details. We will have all payments ready to begin next week and hope this service will help make your payments easier. They will include, for instance, an instalment payment facility to allow you spread your payments over the year.

Nuacht-Bhunrán na Gaelscoile/ Gaelscoil News Bulletin 13.9.1

Táimid chun triail a bhaint as slí nua chun nuacht na scoile a thabhairt duit. In áit Nuachtlitir mór fada L a sheoladh gach mí, táimid chun bunrán níos giorra a chur chugat níos rialta anois. Chomh maith le sin, beimid ag baint i bhfad níos mó úsáide i mbliana as suíomh idirlíon na scoile ag www.osrai.com chun nuacht a sheoladh. Tabhair dúinn do bharúil ar seo le’d thoil.

We are going to try a new way of sending you school news. Instead of the monthly and slightly too long L newsletters until now, we will send you more regular and shorter news bulletins. Let us know what you think of this approach. We also hope to make a lot more use of the news and calendar sections of our school website www.osrai.com and in the near future to start posting news to your child’s class page as well.

Turas go dtí tigh an ÁrdMhéara/Trip to Mansion House for Amnesty

Tá ochtar páiste agus cupla múinteoir ag taisteal ar thuras speisialta an Máirt seo chugainn go Tigh an Árdmhéara i mBaile Átha Cliath chun bualadh le agus éisteacht le bean óg fíor speisialta. Beidh Malala Yousafzai ó Phacastáin ag caint faoin slí gur chaitheadh léi toisc go raibh sí ag iarraidh dul ar scoil. Is de bharr gur bhailíomar níos mó airgid ná aon scoil eile sa tír do Amnesty International mar chuid den Seachtain Chairdis a bhí acu go bhfuilimid ag taisteal. Táimid an  bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Tanya a d’eagraigh na himeachtaí seo dúinn.

Eight of our children and a number of teachers will travel to the mansion House in Dublin next Tuesday to meet and hear Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani woman who was shot and tortured for wanting to go to school, speak. We have been invited by Amnesty international because we raised more money for them than any other school earlier this year during our Friendship Week. Thanks to Múinteoir Tanya for her great work on this initiative and to all our students and you, as parents, for contributing so generously.

Naíonáin Nua/Junior Infants

Beidh ár naíonáin nua ag críochnú ag 12.00 meánlae gach lá go dtí asn Aoine seo chugainn an 20ú. Ón Luan an23ú ar aghaidh, críochnóidh an lae scoile dóibh ag 1.50 pm. Idir an dá linn, bheadh sé deas go mbeadh na páistí ag seasamh ina líne leo féin J Ba mhaith linn a chur in iúil díobh chomh maith nach bhfuil bréagáin pearsanta nó greamaitheoirí ceadaithe sa rang toisc go gcothaíonn siad fadhbanna idir na páistí.

Our Junior Infants will finish their school day at 12.00 pm until next Friday and then will finish their school day at 1.50 pm for the rest of the school year. In the mantime it would be great if children learn to stand in their class line in the morning on their ownJ We would also remind you that personal toys and stickers are discouraged as they tend to lead to rows in the classroom.

Bréagáin ag teastáil/Good toys and games welcome

Tá ár múinteoirí naíonáin ag cur clár nua foghlama Aistear do phaistí óga i bhfeidhm arís i mbliana. Is féidir eolas ar Aistear a léamh anseo http://www.ncca.biz/Aistear/. Mar chuid den obair seo a leagann an-bhéim ar shugradh, tá bréagáin maithe nach bhfuil in úsáid sa bhaile ag teastáil uainne anseo sa scoil. Cuir bréagáin agus cluichí móra, glana agus nach bhfuil briste chugainn tríd an oifig le’d thoil.

Our teachers at infant level are teaching the Aistear curriclum which you can find about here at http://www.ncca.biz/Aistear/. As part of this work we would love to get toys and games which are in good condition and which you no longer use please. You can send them into the office.

Grúpa Cheoil Traidisiúnta na Scoile/ School Traditional music group

Tá Múinteoir Fiona sásta grúpa cheoil traidisiúnta a thógaint arís i mbliana agus táimid ag súil le grúpa maith páistí ó Rang a trí ar aghaidh. Beidh an chleachtadh ar siúl an Aoine seo chugainn ag am loin mhóir san halla. Chomh maith le sin, táimid ag lorg brontannaisí nó iasacht do na huirlisí seo cheoil a leanas-bosca cheoil, fidil, consairtín, feadóg mhór, banjo nó mandailín chun banc uirlis scoile a thosú.

Múinteoir Fiona will take our school traditional music group again this year with practice starting next Friday at lunch time. All pupils from Rang a 3 upwards are welcome with traditional instruments. We are also seeking donations or loans of traditional instruments including accordions, fiddles, concertinas, flutes, banjos or mandolins in order to begin a school instrument bank for those who would like to try them out.

Health Promoting School. Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte.

Ba mhian le Gaelscoil Osraí forbairt mar Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte, ag obair leis an Aonad um Chur chun Cinn na Sláinte. Cuireadh coiste le chéile le déanaí, ar a bhfuil páistí ó Ranganna 4, 5 agus 6, múinteoirí, cuntóir agus tuismitheoirí. Is í Múinteoir Tanya atá mar chomhordaitheoir ar an tionscadal seo.

Is é an aidhm atá ag Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte ná timpeallacht a chruthú ina dtagann gach ball de phobal na scoile le chéile chun sláinte agus folláine a fhorbairt. Déantar imscrúdú ar shláinte iomlán; fisiciuil, meabhrach, mothúchánach, sóisialta, spioradálta agus sochaíoch.

Sa téarma seo, dírófar isteach ar an tionscadal seo le pobal uilig na scoile. Cuirfear fáilte roimh thuairimí a bhaineann leis an ábhar seo. Beimid ag iarraidh oraibh, mar thuismitheoirí, ceistneoirí a líonadh isteach, mar chuid den phróiséas. Díreoidh obair an choiste amach anseo ar na tosaíochtaí a aimseofar sa tréimhse seo.

Le bhur gcomhoibriú, táimid ag tnúth le forbairt mar Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte. Míle buíochas.

Gaelscoil Osraí has recently signed up to develop as a Health Promoting School with the Health Promotion Department, HSE South. This initiative is being  coordinated by Múinteoir Tanya.

A health promoting school seeks to create an environment where all members of the school community (parents, pupils, staff caregivers) come together in a coordinated way to promote  health and well being. Developing as a health promoting school involves consultations, action planning and implementaion of priority health issues.  Health is considered  in its broadest sense including physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and societal.

To date a Working Group has been established (comprising of a health promoting school coordinator, pupil representatives from Ranganna 4, 5 and 6, teachers, support staff and parents).

Over the next few weeks, awareness raising will begin with all members of the school community and opportunities will be given for exploring and discussing health issues with the children, parents, teachers and support staff.

A consultation process will follow, where every member of the school community (pupils, teachers, support staff and parents)  will be encouraged to contribute their ideas and perspective on health matters.  For parents, it will take the form of a questionnaire.

A number of priorities for health will be identified based on the consultation feedback. These priorities will set the agenda- and inform the activities –  aiming to promote health for all over the next 12- 24 months.

In advance, we appreciate your support- in talking about health with your children, in taking the time to fill in the questionnaire and in supporting the promotion of health and happiness for all  in Gaelscoil Osraí.

Holistic health

Health can mean many things to us, for some it is a positve sense of well being, an ability to cope or perform, for others it is an absence of disease or injury. What ever your understanding of health is, it is an individual view. In health promotion,  health is viewed in its broadest sense and is seen as a resource for everyday living. It is considered in many forms mainly, physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and societal. In brief:

Physical health refers to how well your body can work efficiently including physical activity, healthy eating, adopting health enhancing behaviours,

Mental health is your ability to think clearly, your ability to make decisions, your resilence

Emotional health is around recognising and being able to express emotions in a way that is supportive to your health. It also refers to your ability to cope with normal stressors

Social health is being able to relate healthily with others including family, friends, work colleagues

Spiritual health reflects a connection between individuals and the world, and for some may involve religious practices, for others its an appreciation of nature and achieving serenity and creativity

Societal health is around belonging, my contribution to society, it involves promoting healthy and caring communities and neighbourhoods.

Fáilte mhór ar ais roimh gach éinne inár scoilne, idir páistí, tuismitheoirí agus foireann iontach na scoile. Am Scoile

Tosaíonn an lá scoile ag 9.10 am do gach páiste. Táimid ag leagan an-bhéim i mbliana ar pháistí a bheith in am gach lá. Ba chóir do gach páiste a bheith ag seasamh ina line ag 9.10 am agus tabharfaidh an múinteoir an páiste go dtí an rang ag an am sin. Má tá tú déanach ar aon fáth, ba chóir duit do pháiste a thabhairt chun na hoifige agus cuirfear an páiste ar aghaidh ansin go dtí a rang féin.

School begins at 9.10 am each day and we are asking you to make a real effort to have your child at school in time this school year. Late arrivals cause disruption to the class and mean that your child can lose out on a substantial amount of learning time during the year. Remember that the informal time in the morning for settling in is vitally important for your child’s social development and that it also gives them the chance to begin their school day in a calm and relaxed manner. Children who are late are now asked to go to the school office and they will be delivered from there to their classes. In the near future, we will have a book where late arrivals will be signed in in order that we can all work towards a more punctual routine.

Beidh na naíonáin bheaga ag críochnú ag 12.00 meánlae go dtí an Aoine an 20ú Meán Fomhair. Ón Luan an 23ú ar aghaidh, críochnóidh siad gach lá ag 1.50 pm.

Remember that our Junior Infants finish their school day at 12.00 noon each day until Friday the 20th September. From Monday the 23rd onwards they will finish at 1.50 pm.

Oifig na Scoile/School office and communication policy

Tabharfaidh tú faoi deara go bhfuil athruithe tagtha ar fáiltiú agus oifigí na scoile. Is i lár na scoile anois atá oifig an Mháistir agus beidh Eibhlín, rúnaí na scoile, ag obair ó oifig nua-forbartha agus méadaithe ag barr na scoile. Déanfar gnó leis an rúnaí  trí haiste mar a dhéantar i bhformhór scoileanna anois. Ní  bheidh cead ag páistí, tuismitheoirí nó cuairteoirí eile dul isteach san oifig sin ach i gcásanna an-eisceachtúla. Ta a fhios againn gur athrú é seo ón módh cumarsáide a bhí againn ón am a raibh ár scoilne i bhfad níos lú ná mar atá anois. Beimíd buíoch as bhúr gcomhoibriú leis an athrú seo chun a chinntiú go ritheann an scoil níos fearr.

Cuirimíd i gcuimhne duit chomh maith go bhfuil polasaí cumarsáide againn ó thaobh teangmhail idir tuismitheoirí agus an scoil. Fáiltímid i gcónaí le teangmháil uaibh ar fón, trí ephoist agus bualadh isteach go dtí an scoil nuair go bhfuil gá. Bíonn an fhoireann i gcónaí sásta caint nó bualadh libh mar thuismitheoirí. Ní chóir, áfach, go gcuirfeadh sé seo isteach ar am foghlama na bpaistí. Toisc sin, ba chóir cruinniú ag am a oireann don dtuismitheoir agus don mhúinteoir a lorg tríd an oifig. Ní chóir riamh a bheith ag súil le cruinnithe neamh-fhoirmeálta i gclós na scoile gan choinneadh.

Cífidh tú chomh maith go bhfuil eochaircheap anois ar na dóirse isteach in halla na scoile. Ligfidh rúnaí na scoile isteach páistí tríd na doirse seo nuair nach bhfuil múinteoir leo. Arís is ar mhaithe le sábháltacht paistí an scoile atá an athrú seo.

You will notice some changes to the office layout of the school. The Principal’s office has now moved to the middle of the school and a new school reception and administration office has been created at the front of the school. In order to make the communication at the main office more efficient, we are now asking you to communicate with the school secretary through the new hatch inside the main door, as is common in most schools. It will no longer be acceptable for parents, children or other visitors to enter the school office except in exceptional circumstances. We appreciate that this is a different way of doing business than the way things have been done since our school was much smaller and we thank you for your co-operation in this regard. You are of course always welcome to contact the school by phone or email as you have always done.

You will also note that there is now a keypad access system into the main school hall. The school secretary will allow children into this area unless they are accompanied by their teacher. You will appreciate that this change is being introduced in order to improve the safety and security of everybody in our school. We also remind you that going directly to classrooms in the pre-fab area of the school is not acceptable either and that you should go to the school reception instead.

We remind you also of the communication policy of the school in relation to contacting staff. We are always delighted to speak to and meet with you as parents if you have issues in relation to your child’s learning or any other issues of concern. It is important, however, that such meetings do not interfere with the learning and teaching time of the school. It is vital, therefore, that you always contact the school office to arrange such meetings at a time that is equally suitable for both you and your child’s teacher. When arranging such meetings, remember that the important information is always given first to the class teacher and that only a very brief outline of the reason for the meeting is necessary before the teacher contacts you back. Please note that you should never expect informal meetings with the teacher on the school grounds. Staff should also not be contacted outside of school hours except in case of real emergency.

Once again we remind you that Gaelscoil Osraí is a school that has always and will always value your input and ideas as parents. We hope that these small changes will make our school a better place and improve the efficiency of all that we do. They will also we hope lead to a more secure, safe and comfortable school environment for children, staff and parents alike.

The milk is of course supplied by Avonmore. You will find an information leaflet attached and we ask you to send it back as soon as possible to your class teacher.
