Nuachtlitir Lá le Padraig

Nuachtlitir Lá le Pádraig

Lá le Pádraig shona daoibh ar fad. Tá súil againn go mbeidh lá deas le chéile agaibh mar chlann amárach agus go mbainfidh sibh taitneamh as lá náisiúnta difriúil ach dóchasach le cúnamh Dé. De ghnáth, bheadh na páistí ag réitiú don bparáid amárach le ceol, canadh agus éadaí speisialta réidh acu. In áit sin i mbliana, bhí paráid speisialta scoile againn an Aoine seo chaite. Beidh píosaí de sin le feiscint ar an bparaid fíorúil amárach ar www.stpatricksfestivalkilkenny.com Le cúnamh Dé, cífidh tú do pháiste óg (iad faoi bhun Rang a Dó) sna pictiúirí. Chomh maith le sin, tá lá mór imeachtaí ar-líne, idir cheoil, canadh agus cúrsaí timpeallachta ar siúl chun taitneamh a bhaint astu. Coinnigh súil amach d’iar-scoláirí na scoile a bheidh páirteach le Music Generation, an grúpa iontach Burnchurch agus fiú Evanne Ní Chuilinn mar bhean an tí don lá.

A very happy Lá le Pádraig to you all in this strangest of national holidays tomorrow. We hope you have a great family day and that we can all look forward in hope to being dressed up and have practised our tunes and songs to march in the 2022 parade through the city as our school has done for many years. In the absence of that and even the club hurling and football finals, please tune in online tomorrow to www.stpatricksfestivalkilkenny.com where you’ll see all the huge efforts put in to have a virtual parade and festival for the day and into the evening. The music, in fact, starts this evening at 8 pm but there is a packed programme tomorrow.

We had our own virtual parade last Friday with the children up to Rang a 2. Thanks for all your help with preparing for this and we hope that the children in those classes make it onto the screen for the virtual parade tomorrow. Míle buíochas to John Purcell, a Dad in the school, who did such great work capturing the atmosphere on film and we will be sharing that film on our Facebook and Youtube accounts tomorrow. Special buíochas to Múinteoirí Michelle and Proinnsiasa for their help as always at this time of year. Keep an eye out too for our past pupils tomorrow who are involved with Music Generation Kilkenny, Seo Linn and Burnchurch, whose special song Dóchas sums up all our hopes for better times on the way. Former staff member Nell Ní Chróinín will feature while Evanne Ní Chuilinn is compère for the whole day’s events. Bain taitneamh as an lá iontach seo.

Comhgáirdeachas Cartoon Saloon
Táimid an-bhródúil mar scoil as Cartoon Saloon atá taréis a chúigiú ainmniúcháin d’Oscar a bhaint amach leis an scannán Wolfwalkers. Comhgáirdeachas speisialta do Mhúinteoir Liselott, a chéile Tomm agus an chlann ar fad chomh maith le gach duine sa chomhlacht. Bhí páistí sa scoil ag glacadh páirt chomh maith le ghuthanna Marc Ó Conaill, Róisín Ní Shé agus Eoin Ó Cléirigh le clos ann. Bhí an t-ádh lenár scoil chomh maith go bhfacamar na dréacht-chóipeanna den scannán dhá bhliain ó shin agus go raibh deis ag ár bpáistí a gcuid tuairimí a thabhairt. Beimid ag súil go mór le bua i Los Angeles i mí Aibreáin le cúnamh Dé!

We are hugely proud of local company Cartoon Saloon who have this week received their fifth nomination for an Oscar for their movie, Wolfwalkers, beautifully set in Kilkenny. Special congratulations to Múinteoir Liselott and her husband Tomm, who along with Ross Stewart, directed this latest blockbuster. We are also delighted that students Marc Ó Conaill, Róisín Ní Shé and Eoin Ó Cléirigh starred as some of the children in the animated film. We were privileged two years ago to see some of the first drafts of the film in halla na scoile and that our children got to have their own input and give their opinions, while seeing the process of an animated film being made. We even made the credits at the end of the movie!! We can’t wait to have the chance to take all the children to see the movie in the local cinema but in the meantime we warmly recommend you watch it at home on Apple TV. You can do this for free, using the option for a free week’s trial on this channel (don’t forget to log off after Week 1 if you don’t want to continue!) We’ll have all our fingers crossed on April 25th that the little gold statue will finally be making its way to the Marble City.

Meanwhile, TG4 are showing two of the other Cartoon Saloon nominated movies this week. Today at 4.30 pm you can see Rún Mhór Cheannanais-The Secret of Kells as Gaeilge and on Thursday, they’re showing Amhrán na Mara-The Song of the Sea, again as Gaeilge at the same time. Bíodh an popcorn réidh!

Rothaíocht agus siúl ar scoil
Táimid an-sásta leis an méid rothaíochta agus siúl ar scoil atá ar siúl ónar thánamar ar ais ar scoil. Bhí 75 rothar agus scútar againn inniu-sin 17% den scoil! Táimid ag iarraidh go shroichimid céad rothar agus scútair arís roimh dheireadh an seachtaine. Táimid ag iarraidh chomh maith go mbeidh fíor-bheagán ghluaisteáin ag teacht isteach i gclós na scoile. Lig go do pháiste siúl ar aghaidh ó carr-chlóis áitiúla cosúil le LIDL, ALDI, Supervalu nó fiú an Watershed. Tá sé iontach dóibh agus don dtimpeallacht.

We are delighted that we have seen so many children cycling and walking since we came back to school. This morning saw 75 bikes and scooters come to school-that’s 17% of all our children. We want to try and break the 100 mark again by Friday and we ask children to green up their scooters and bikes on Friday. We also want to see very few cars coming into the school yard. Please let your child walk from the carparks in LIDL, ALDI, Supervalu or even the Watershed. Children living within a kilometre of school should be well able to walk to school. Remember this is good for your child and for the environment, even on wet mornings! If you must enter the school grounds by car, PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY and park carefully.

Foirm ‘filleadh ar scoil’
Bí cinnte go líonann do pháiste an fhoirm Filleadh ar Scoil ar Aladdin Connect taréis gach lá go bhfuil siad as láthair.

Please ensure your child completes the Return to School form on Aladdin Connect after EVERY day they miss at school, for any reason. You can access this by going to Attendance Note on Aladdin, then to Return to Education tab and filling in the details. This is crucial so we can be certain that ALL staff and students are fit and well enough to be in school.
Please also note that you MUST OBEY THE 48 HOUR RULE. Your child must be free from all Covid19 symptoms before they attend school.

We also ask you to continue to keep to all the national rules about families mixing outside of school. Playdates and Sleepovers are a definite breach of the rules and we ask you please to say no to these suggestions to protect all of our health and wellbeing.

Culaith reatha agus Éide Scoile
Mar is eol daoibh, beidh culaith reatha nua againn go luath sa scoil. De bharr sin, tá na sean-chinn ag rith amach as stoc insan dá shiopa a dhíolann iad. Má tá sean-cheann ag éinne nach bhfuil in úsáid, an seolfaidh sibh isteach glanta iad le bhur dtoil, ionas gur féidir linn iad a thabhairt do pháistí eile. Is féidir leanúint ar aghaidh ag úsáid an sean-cheann chomh fada agus is maith libh.

As you know, our school tracksuit will soon be changing after well over a decade. Because of this, our local suppliers are running out of stock of the current tracksuits. If you have old tracksuits which are not in use, could you please send them in to us (cleaned if possible) so they can be reused in the coming months. You can continue to use the existing tracksuits for as long as they last. Please don’t feel any pressure to buy the new ones unnecessarily later this year. We also welcome any spare items from the formal school uniform or cóta na scoile which we will always find good homes for.

Rith Beo
Dáta don dialann. Tá Rith Beo ag dul ar aghaidh aris ar an deireadh seachtain an 29 agus 30 Bealtaine 2021.

Our annual Rith Beo 5 and 10k road races will go ahead again this year on the 29th and 30th May. At this point, they will proceed as virtual races and the coiste will be giving more details in the coming weeks.

Nuachtlitir an Fhomhair/Autumn Newsletter 2019

Nuachtlitir na Scoile Deireadh Fomhair 2019

Fáilte mhór ar ais ar scoil, a chairde, anois is go bhfuil gach éinne againn socruithe ar ais arís. Tá an-díomá ar roinnt tuismitheoirí nach bhfuair áit inár scoilne agus is mór an trua sin. Tá fáilte ar leith roimh ár 64 naíonáin bheaga agus táimid ag súil le ocht mbliain iontach foghlama acu linne anseo. Beimid ag cur trí chrann dúchasacha inár ngáirdín an tseachtain seo a bhfásfaidh tríd an ocht mbliain sin is iad ar scoil.

Now that we have all settled in a little and our first month has been completed in school, we welcome you all back to Gaelscoil Osraí for the learning year ahead. We particularly welcome our 64 new Junior infants and look forward to eight years of great learning and fun ahead. We have a lot of disappointed parents who didn’t get a place in our school and that is a great pity for those seeking the advantages of education as Gaeilge. We will plant a tree for each of our three new classes in the coming week, which they can watch grow as they progress through their loves here with us.

Sonraithe cearta/Correct Information

Mar is eol daoibh, úsáidimid an chóras eolais Aladdin chun teangmháil a dhéanamh leat agus chun sonraithe tábhactacha do pháiste a choimeád. Déan cinnte de go bhfuil an app ar siúl ar do fón chun na teachtaireachtaí a fháil láithreach. Cinntigh le’d thoil go bhfuil sonraithe do pháiste agus do chlann i gceart le’d thoil. I mbliana, tá an Roinn Oideachais ag lorg Eircode gach páiste agus is féidir leat é a chur suas ar Aladdin mar an líne deireanach do sheoladh baile do pháiste le’d thoil.

Please ensure that your child’s details are fully correct on the Aladdin data management system we are using please. It is vital for us to be notified of any changes of phone numbers in particular, in case of emergencies. Please ensure also that the app on your phone or computer is working fully. This year, for the first time, the Department of Education is demanding the Eircode for each child. Please include it as the last line of your child’s home address. Please check also that notifications from Aladdin are not blocked on your phone to ensure you get all messages from us.

Thanks to everyone who has completed the permissions section for their child on Aladdin. Please ensure you have done so in the coming week. On one permission, please be aware of the consequences of refusing permission for your child’s image to be used by the school or by local or national media without their name appearing. This can cause real, practical difficulties at sports events, concert performances etc. Please explain to your child that they must step out of photographs on these occasions at it is hugely difficult for teachers to patrol these measures.

Páirceáil agus teacht ar scoil

Tá an t-uafás tráctha i dtimpeallacht na scoile ar maidin, le cúig eastát tithíochta sa cheantar, chomh maith le Scoil na Toirbhirte in aice linn. Mar scoil ghlas agus scoil ghníomhach, táimid ag iarraidh go mbeadh a laghad tráchta agus gur féidir ag teacht chugainne. Spreag do pháiste le’d thoil chun rothaíocht, siúl, teacht ar an mbus nó ar a laghad gluaisteán a roinnt nuair gur féidir. Má tá ort teacht sa ghluaisteán, tá cead ag ár dtuismitheoirí páirceáil ar maidin agus tráthnóna i gcarr-chlóis LIDL, ALDI nó Supervalu agus siúlar aghaidh ón áit sin.

Má tá ort teacht isteach i gclós na scoile, tabhair aire don gcóras páirceála le’d thoil. Níl chead do ghluaisteán a fhágaint ar thaobh na scoile don mbóthar idir an raca rothair agus an Astro. Is ionad bailithe agus fágála amháin an áit seo. Níor choir ach oiread páirceáil dúbalta a dhéanamh riamh nó do pháiste a ligint amach i lár line tráctha, rud atá an-dainséarach.

There is a large amount of traffic around our school grounds in the mornings and afternoons and we share our area with five local housing estates as well as the busy Presentation secondary school next door. As a Green, Health Promoting and Active school, we encourage as little traffic as possible to come into our grounds. Please encourage your child to walk or cycle to school whenever possible. The best way to encourage this is to join them, even for a day or two. It’s much safer than you think! Please also allow your child to travel by school bus where they can. We have Junior Infant children travelling on buses without problems. Finally, if you must come by car, please enquire about car-pooling or sharing with a neighbour or friend.

If you do come by car, please remember that you are welcome to park in the LIDL,ALDI and Supervalu car-parks and allow your child to walk the remaining distance. We call this our Park and Stride programme.

If you must enter our grounds by car, please note our traffic and parking system. There is NO parking allowed on the school side of our internal road except purely for drop-off and pick-up purposes. You should never leave your car unattended in this area. On the main road side, please respect the staff overflow car-park area. Please ensure also that you NEVER double park or leave your child out in a line of traffic as this is extremely dangerous.

Féitheoireacht Maidine/Morning Supervision

Cuirimid féitheoireacht fiche nóimead ar fáil gach maidin idir 8.50 agus 9.10 am mar ghar daoibhse mar thuismitheoirí. Táimid ag iarraidh nach mbeadh páisti i láthair roimh an ama sin agus má tá siad ann go dtuigeann tú gur gan féitheoireacht atá siad. Ní bhíonn féitheoireacht againn i ndiaidh am scoile agus ba chóír do pháistí imeacht ón scoil nó dul go imeachtaí iar-scoile i slí sábhálta.

We provide twenty minutes supervision of children who arrive early each morning from 8.50 to 9.10 am as a facility for parents coming to work. Please note that children should not arrive before that time and if they do that they are unsupervised and present at their own and their parents’ risk. Please note also that we DO NOT supervise children after they are dismissed at the end of the school day at 2.50 pm and that they should make their way to school buses, to meet their parents or to after-schools activities safely and carefully. Please let class teachers know if after-schools service providers are collecting your children or if anybody other than the normal people who collect them will be doing so on any occasion. A quick call or email to the office will do.

Timpeallacht agus Scoil Ghlas

Táimid ag tabhairt faoinár séú bhrat ghlas mar scoil i mbliana. Is ‘Saoránachta Domhanda- Bainistiú bhruscair agus dramhaoile’ atá mar théama againn. Tá Múínteoirí Deirdre agus Máise ag stiúriú an choiste i mbliana agus táimid an-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Maria R as na blianta atá caite againn i mbun na hoibre seo. Má tá suim agat cabhrú le hobair an choiste, téigh i dteangmháil tríd an oifig le’d thoil. Tá an t-eolas ar fad faoin mbrat anseo:

https://greenschoolsireland.org/themes/global-citizenship-litter-waste/

We are undertaking the work for our 6thGreen Flag this year and the theme for this flag is Global Citizenship-Litter and Waste Management. Múinteoir Deirdre and Máise are the new co-ordinators of this work and we extend huge thanks to Múinteoir Maria R for over a decade of work with our Coiste Scoil Ghlas. If you are interested in helping the committee with its work, please contact the office. All the information on our current flag work is available at the link above.

Míle buíochas go Malcolm Noonan agus Máire Ní Bhraonáin as an lá iontach bhrú úlla a bhí againn cúpla seachtain ó shin. Thanks a million to Malcolm and Máire for our wonderful apple pressing day recently where we made the freshest of apple juice with apples from Gáirdín na scoile and gáirdíní an bhaile. Some classes missed out due to other events on the day but there are upcoming dates, including the Auxiliary Hospital, Wolfe Tone Street on Sunday next the 13thOctober and of course at the Savour Kilkenny Food Festival on the October bank holiday weekend.

Bhí tionól speisialta domhanda chomh maith againn ar an 20 Meán Fomhair nuair go raibh an stailc scoile ar siúl inar phléamar an cheist do theithiú domhanda. Chomh maith le sin, tá JaneWickham, tuismitheoir na scoile, taréis seans a thabhairt dúinn a bheith mar chuid de thoinscnamh nua, Pobail Inmharthana Fuinnimh, a bheidh pobal Loch Buí ag cur isteach air. Faoi láthair tá breis is €20,000 in aghaidh na bliana á chaitheamh againn ar chúrsaí teasa agus solas agus beimid ag iarraidh é sin a laghdú go mór.

We had a special climate change assembly on September 24thto coincide with the international school strike day. Our senior classes watched the Gretta Thunberg and other videos while we discussed our own individual roles at assembly. One of our parents, Jane Wickham, has asked us to become involved in the Sustainable Energies Community Project which the local Loughboy Community are applying for. As part of our application, we have discovered that we have an annual energy bill of more than €20,000 and we are determined to reduce both our costs and our carbon footprint. Any suggestions you have would be welcome.

Scoil Ildána/Creative School

Tá áthas orainn go bhfuilimid páirteach arís san dara chuid den dtionscnamh Scoileanna Ildána. Deineadh obair iontach an bhliain seo chaite agus táimid an-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoirí Áine agus Liselott a stiúraigh sn obair ar fad, chomh maith le Laura Ní Fhlaibhín, ár gcomhghleacaí chruthaitheach sa scoil. Bhí ár gcoiste páistí lán de smaointí agus ghnímh anuraidh agus tá an choiste nua gach pioc chomh maith leo. Má tá suim agat san obair seo, tar i dteangmháil leis an oifig.

We are delighted to be involved in the second year of the Creative Schools pilot project as part of the Arts Council Creative Ireland project. You will all be aware of the fantastic work carried out last year by our Creative School committee, led by Múinteoirí Áine and Liselott with class reps from R a 3 to R a 6. Our new committee is equally enthusiastic and the highlights so far this year have included class visits from Lorraine O’ Sullivan of the Heritage Council who gave expert talks on water conservation and minibeasts in our local rivers to our senior classes and this will be followed by Michele Castiaux who will be doing creative work on the same topics. Some of our classes have also visited the fantastic exhibitions in the Butler and National Craft galleries. All creative ideas will be most welcome during the year and if you feel you can give us some time or volunteer your services, we’d be delighted. We will also be asking you for some feedback as part of our School Self Evaluation work this year on the creative arts in our school and would again welcome your feedback.

Ráiseanna Tras-tíre/Cross Country races

Beidh ráiseanna tras-tíre an chontae ar siúl amárach i bPáirc an Chaisleáin óna 12.00 meánlae go dtí 2.30 pm. Beidh ár bpáistí ar fad ó R a 3 go R a 6 páirteach. Seol isteach €1 an duine leo le’d thoil. Táimid an-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Conor as ucht an eagrúcháin ar fad a thabhairt air. Tagann sé in áit Seán Lynch a d’eagraigh an ócáid seo le dhá bhliain déag anuas. Gabhaimid buíochas mhór do Sheán agus tá súil againn go n-eireoidh go maith linn amárach agus go mbainfidh gach páiste taitneamh agus tairbhe as.

The annual Kilkenny Primary schools cross-country races take place tomorrow, October 8thin Kilkenny Castle Park. ALL our children from R a 3 to R a 6 take part. Please give your child €1 each to help with the costs. We are thankful to Múinteoir Conor who has taken over the organising of the whole event. He succeeds the legendary Seán Lynch, who has run the event for the past twelve years and we extend huge thanks to Seán for providing such wonderful days and memories to our current and past pupils. We hope our runners will compete well tomorrow but most importantly that they will all enjoy the experience and learn the joy of running as part of a healthy lifestyle.

A reminder also that our annual Rith Beo fun run will take place on Sunday 24thMay 2020. This will be a busy weekend this year as our First Communion takes place on Saturday 23rdMay. We hope this will encourage families to participate on both days and that our parents will participate and volunteer as you always have.

Éide Scoile/Uniforms

Bhí sé deas gach éinne a fheiscint gléasta san éide scoile ceart ar maidin. Beimid ag súil go mór le na griangrafanna i bhféilire 2020. Cinntigh le’d thoil go bhfuil an éide scoile ceart á chaitheamh gach lá ach amháin na laethanta atá fógraithe ag an Múinteoir ranga do chúrsaí chorp-oideachais, snámh 7 rl.

It was wonderful to see all our children from R a 1 upwards wearing their full school uniform today and we look forward to seeing the pictures in our annual 2020 calendar. As a school, we are very conscious of the expense involved in purchasing the school uniform and we ask you to ensure your child wears it on all the days outside of the one or two a week designated for tracksuit for PE, swimming etc. Please check that you know the appropriate days and that we keep the rules as best we can.

Ranganna Ghaeilge

Beidh ranganna Ghaeilge do thuismitheoirí na scoile agus daoine fásta eile ag tosú an Chéadaoin beag seo an 9 Deireadh Fomhair sa scoil ag 7.00 pm. An iar-mháistir Mícheál Ó Máirtín a bheidh i bhfeighil agus beidh an béim ar an gcomhrá. Tapaigh an deis chun do Ghaeilge a chleachtadh agus a fheabhsú arís. Is naoi seachtaine atá i gceist agus €45 don naoi oíche ar fad. Luach airgid iontach atá ann. Beidh ar a laghad deichniúir ag teastáil. Scaip an fhocail mar sin.

Gaeilge classes for parents and other adults will begin in the school this Wednesday night at 7.00 pm and will last for nine Wednesdays until early December. Subject to a minimum of ten people taking part, the charge of €45 is excellent value. Former Máistir Micheál Ó Máirtín leads the classes and the emphasis is on everyday conversational language. Spread the word and let’s get back speaking the language our children are learning through.

Bille Scoile

Táimid an-bhuíoch do gach éinne a d’íóc an bille scoile go dtí seo. Ná dean dearmad go bhfuil imeachtaí spoirt i rith am scoile cosúil le gleacaíocht agus snámh clúdaithe sa bhille seo chomh maith leis an scéim chíosach leabhair sna hard-ranganna. Thar aon rud eile áfach, tá clúdaíocht 24 uair a chloig, 365 lá sa bhliain árachais phearsanta ag do pháiste faoi scéim Allianz. Beidh duais d’aisíoc an bhille iomlán do pháiste amháin i do chlann d’éinne atá an méid iomlán íoctha acu ar lá laethanta saoire na Samhna.

We are very grateful for all those who have some or all of their bille scoile so far. Please remember that the bill covers the cost of extra PE activities, including gymnastics, Irish dancing and swimming as well as the cost of book rental in the senior classes. Most importantly, we are lucky to have the cost of 24 hour, 365 days a year personal insurance for all pupils who have paid, inside and outside of school through the Allianz insurance scheme. Remember also that there will be a draw from all those fully paid up by the Friday of the mid-term break on October 25th. The winner will receive a full refund for one child of the bill paid.

Beidh cruinniú bliantúil Choiste na dTuismitheoirí ar siúl sa scoil ar an 16 Deireadh Fomhair ag 7.00 pm. Ba mhaith linn go mbeadh ionadaí ó gach rang ar choiste na dtuismitheoirí taréis an chruinniú. Beidh aoi-chainteoir againn ar an oíche agus beidh sóláistí ar fáil ina dhiaidh.

Our parents association annual general meeting will take place on Wednesday 16thOctober in the school. We hope to have a representative from each class to take part in the committee’s work for the year ahead. We will have a guest speaker on the night and refreshments will be provided at the end.

Club Osraí

Beidh Club Osraí, óg-chlub trí mheán na Gaeilge, ag tosú sa scoil ar an Déardaoin seo, an 10 Deireadh Fomhair óna 4.00 pm go 5.30 pm. Is deis iontach í seo do pháistí R a 5 agus 6 a chuid Ghaeilge a chleachtadh trí cluichí, spraoi agus deis bualadh le páistí ó scoileanna eile. Beidh an club ar siúl i gColáiste Pobail Osraí taréis na Nollag.

Club Osraí, our Irish language youth club for our senior pupils and those from other schools in the surrounding area begins this Thursday from 4.00 to 5.30 pm. This is a great chance for students to use their language in an informal way through games, fun activities and meeting children from other schools. The club takes place in our school up to Christmas and in Coláiste Pobail Osraí for the second term. The club is funded through the School Completion Programme, which we are lucky to be part of and children with financial challenges at home are welcome to attend.

Sean-leabhair/Old Books

Má tá aon sean-leabhair ón scoil agat, an féidir iad a chur isteach le do pháiste go dtí an oifig le’d thoil?

Can you please return any old library or text books to the school if you happen to come across them. A number of our popular novels and books like atlases, maths text books etc are in short supply and we would prefer not to have to replace them if they are taking up space at home. Please spread the word to other past-pupil’s families also.

Nuachtlitir Tús na Bliana 2018/2019

Nuachtlitir Tús na Bliana 2018/2019

Fáilte chroíúil ar ais ar scoil gach éinne. Tá 455 páiste linn i mbliana agus táimid ag súil le bliain iontach foghlama, spraoi agus iontaisí an tsaoil. Curimid fáilte ar leith roimh an 66 naíonáin bheaga inár dtrí rang naíonain bheaga, an chéad uair i stair 34 bliain na scoile gur thárla a leithéid. Beimid ag súil le bheith ag comhoibriú libh mar thuismitheoirí chun go mbeidh suaimhneas agus sonas ag ár bpáistí agus go réiteofar aon fhadhb chomh tapaidh agus i slí chomh éifeachtach agus gur féidir linn le chéile. Cuirimid in iúil duit go bhfuil sé fíor-thábhactach labhairt le múinteoir agus an scoil nuair go bhfuil buairt ort faoi aon rud a bhaineann le do pháiste agus gan ligint do rud leanúint ar aghaidh. Formhór an ama is leor nóta i ndialann obair bhaile ach má tá fáth agat labhairt leis an múinteoir, cur glaoch ar an oifig le’d thoil ag 056 7765697 chun cruinniú a lorg nó cur ephoist go runai@osrai.com Is fearr gan ceisteanna móra a árdú le múinteoir ghnóthach roimh nó díreach an lae scoile nuair go bhfuil siad ghnóthach le do pháiste agus páistí eile.

You are hugely welcome back to a brand new school year where we all start afresh and hopefully refreshed after our summer break. A particular welcome to our 67 new Junior Infants in Múinteoir Ruth, Bríd and Jennifer’s classes, the first time our school has accepted three junior infant classes as a result of the continuing very high demand for places in our school. We have 455 children this year and look forward to a wonderful year of learning, play and the wonders and surprises of life. We look forward to working together with you as parents to ensure your child’s wellbeing and happiness and also to finding a way to deal with any occasional problems that may arise as quickly and effectively as we all would like. We remind you therefore, that a problem brought to our attention quickly is always the easiest one to solve. A quick note in your child’s homework diary is normally enough but if you feel you need to speak to a teacher, please contact Eileen in the office on 056 7765697 or email runai@osrai.com to arrange an appointment. It’s always much better not to ‘doorstep’ a teacher with an issue of concern when they are busy with children in the morning or at the end of the school day. We sincerely thank Múinteoirí Colette and Maria T and the children in their Rang a 3 class who have agreed to take up temporary residence in the Máistir’s office upstairs as we work on getting our new classroom put in place. We apologise for the inconvenience involved.

Oíche Eolais Tuismitheoirí/Parents Information Meeting

Táimid ag rith le oíche eolais do tuismitheoirí uilig na scoile i mbliana ar an Déardaoin seo chugainn, an 13 Meán Fomhair sa scoil. Tosóimid ag 7 pm le cruinniú eolais do na tuismitheoirí ar fad ag 7.00 pm agus i ndiaidh sin, beidh cruinniú i ngach seomra le múinteoir/múinteoirí do pháiste  don mbliain. Is seans í seo chun tuiscint mhaith a bheith ag gach éinne ar chur chuige na múinteoirí agus socruithe ghinearálta na scoile. Tá súil againn gur feidir le tuismitheoir amháin ón gclann ar a laghad a bheith i láthair. Beidh an tráthnóna críochnaithe roimh 8.30 pm le cúnamh Dé. Beidh cruinnithe Rang a 1 ar siúl ar an gCéadaoin an 12 ag 7.00 pm agus beidh na cruinnithe do naíonáin bheaga ar siúl i gceann cupla seachtain.

We have decided to have an information night for all parents in our school on Thursday next September 13th at 7.00 pm. We will begin with a general information meeting about the school in the halla and you will then be able to move to your child’s classroom to meet with their teacher/teachers for the year. This is a great opportunity to get a clear picture of how the year’s learning will work for your child and how we can all work together to make the year ahead one of great co-operation for all of us. We hope that at least one parent from each family can make the evening which will finish by 8.30 pm hopefully! The meetings for Rang a hAon cannot take place on the Thursday unfortunately and will take place instead at 7.00 pm on Weds the 12th and the Junior Infant meetings will take place in a few weeks time.

Féitheoireacht maidine/Morning Supervision

Cuirfear i gcuimhne duit go n-osclaíonn an scoil ag 8.50 am do pháistí. Níl féitheoireacht ar fáil do pháistí roimh an am sin. Bí cinnte do pháistí a bhailiú in am taréis scoile agus imeachtaí scoile chomh maith. Ní chuirfear féitheoireacht ar fáil taréis am scoile.

We remind you that the school grounds open for pupils at 8.50 am and that supervision is not provided before that time. We also ask you to collect your children on time after school or school activities end. We do not provide supervision after school or school activities end.

We also ask you to use the LIDL, ALDI and Super-Valu car-parks and to walk with your child from there to school or better again to walk or cycle with them from home. Toghchán tuismitheora

Táimid  an-bhuíoch do John Grace atá taréis feidhmiú mar ionadaí na dtuismitheoirí agus mar chisteoir ar ár mbord bainistíochta le roinnt blianta anuas. Toisc go bhfuil páiste deireanach John taréis an scoil a fhágaint, tá orainn ainmní nua fireann a thoghadh anois don gcuid eile de thréimhse an bhoird go deireadh 2019. Beidh cruinniú ar siúl sa scoil ar an Máirt an 25 Meán Fomhair ag 7.00 pm. Is féidir tuismitheoir a ainmniú ar an oíche. Má tá níos mó ná ainmniúchán amháin, beidh toghchán againn ar an oíche. We are hugely grateful to John Grace who has served as one of our parent’s nominees and as treasurer on our Board of Management in recent years. Because John’s youngest child has left the school, he cannot continue in this position and we must now seek the election of a new male parents nominee, to serve until the end of the board’s term at the end of 2019. We will hold a meeting to elect the new nominee on Tuesday September 25th at 7.00 pm. Nominations are made from the floor on the night and an election will take place if more than one candidate is nominated.

This meeting will be followed by the AGM of our Parents Association at 7.30 pm. We strongly encourage you to consider becoming involved in our Parents Association, either as a class parents rep or as an officer. Our current committee have given great service over recent years and we would love to see new members offering their services.

Nuachtlitir Tús na Bliana/New School Year Newsletter

Nuachtlitir Tús na Bliana 2017/2018

Tá 442 páiste linn i mbliana agus táimid ag súil le bliain iontach foghlama, spraoi agus iontaisí an tsaoil. Beimid ag súil le bheith ag comhoibriú libh mar thuismitheoirí chun go mbeidh suaimhneas agus sonas ag ár bpáistí agus go réiteofar aon fhadhb chomh tapaidh agus i slí chomh éifeachtach agus gur féidir linn le chéile. Cuirimid in iúil duit go bhfuil sé fíor-thábhactach labhairt le múinteoir agus an scoil nuair go bhfuil buairt ort faoi aon rud a bhaineann le do pháiste agus gan ligint do rud leanúint ar aghaidh. Formhór an ama is leor nóta i ndialann obair bhaile ach má tá fáth agat labhairt leis an múinteoir, cur glaoch ar an oifig le’d thoil ag 056 7765697 chun cruinniú a lorg nó cur ephoist go runai@osrai.com Is fearr gan ceisteanna móra a árdú le múinteoir ghnóthach roimh nó díreach an lae scoile nuair go bhfuil siad ghnóthach le do pháiste agus páistí eile.

You are hugely welcome back to a brand new school year where we all start afresh and hopefully refreshed after our summer break. A particular welcome to our 54 new Junior Infants in Múinteoir Ruth and Jennifer’s classes. We have 442 children this year and look forward to a wonderful year of learning, play and the wonders and surprises of life. We look forward to working together with you as parents to ensure your child’s wellbeing and happiness and also to finding a way to deal with any occasional problems that may arise as quickly and effectively as we all would like. We remind you therefore, that a problem brought to our attention quickly is always the easiest one to solve. A quick note in your child’s homework diary (they’re coming soon!) is normally enough but if you feel you need to speak to a teacher, please contact Eileen in the office on 056 7765697 or email runai@osrai.com to arrange an appointment. It’s always much better not to ‘doorstep’ a teacher with an issue of concern when they are busy with children in the morning or at the end of the school day.

Nuachtlitir an tSamhraidh/Summer Newsletter

Nuachtlitir Deireadh na Bliana 2017.

Tá deireadh na scoil-bliana buailte linn arís agus sinne ar fad ag súil le briseadh deas le haimsire maith le cúnamh Dé. Is deis í seo dúinn ar fad scíth a ligint agus am a chaitheamh le chéile lenár gclanna ag déanamh rudaí deasa. Tá a fhios againn go mbeidh roinnt imeachtaí ar siúl ag na páistí agus molaimid go mór campaí samhraidh Cul Camps an Chumann Lúthcleas Gael, cinn sacair an FAI, rugbaí an IRFU agus campa Parks Tennis go haitiúil.

An méid sin ráite, tá an tuafás le déanamh saor in aisce agus molaimid go láidir dúshlán léitheoireachta an tsamhraidh i leabharlann Loch Buí. Níl aon rud níos fearr le déanamh le do pháiste ná léitheoireacht a spreagadh i rith an tsamhraidh. Ná déan dearmad chomh maith cluichí mata, mireanna mearaí 7rl a thabhairt dóibh ar lá fluiuch nó maith. Píosa chomhairle an-mhaith ag John Creedon ar an raidio ag an deireadh seachtain ná na scáileáin sa ghluaisteán a chaitheamh amach agus tír eolas na tíre a cheiliúradh agus caint deas a bheith againn lenár bpáistí.

Thar aon rud eile bímis sábhálta thar an tsamhraidh. Bí cúramach in aice na farraige nó abhainn agus go háirithe ar an bhfeirm má táimid ann. Beimíd ag súil le gach éinne a fheiscint ar ais linn ag 9.10 am ar an Déardaoin an 31ú Lúnasa.

The end of the school year has reached us again and we have had a wonderful year with many achievements and learning experiences for our children. Hopefully, whether with the hoped for bright sunshine or more normal Irish weather, we will all have a chance to relax and enjoy the many pleasurable activities we can have as families with quality time spent together, either at home or on holidays. We know many of you will avail of organised activities during the holidays and as always we encourage you to take part in the GAA Cúl Camps, FAI soccer camps, IRFU rugby camps and the excellent value Parks Tennis Camp among the dozens of choices locally.

More importantly however are all the things you can do for free. We particularly ask you to consider the Summer Reading challenge in Loughboy library which encourages our children to read. (don’t forget the leabhair Ghaeilge chomh maith!) Don’t forget also the chance to get children to engage in Maths learning through Sudoku and other maths games and even encouraging them to check and develop their skills with money and time. One lovely piece of advice from John Creedon over the weekend was to ditch the screens in the car and talk to our children about the countryside around them as we drive to help their geography and history learning.

Most importantly, we wish everybody a safe holiday. Please be particularly careful around water, either at the beach or lake or river. Please also take care on the farm around machinery and animals where we can have great fun with a little bit of care. We really look forward to seeing all our pupils returning safe and sound at 9.10 am on Thursday August the 31st.

Bille Scoile

Tá an-iarracht déanta ag daoine arís i mbliana a chuid a íoc chun costaisí scoile do pháiste a chlúdú. Mar is eol duit, clúdaíonn an bille costas árachais 24/7 i gcomhair do pháiste, laistigh agus lasmuigh den scoil, costaisí na hábhair seachtracha a déantar sa scoil, an snámh, an rinnce agus gleacaíocht ina measc. Tá seans fós ag daoine nár íoc an bille iomlán pé méid gur féidir leat a íoc ar líne ach brú ar an gcnaipe Pay Now ar www.osrai.com Beidh orainn féachaint an bhliain seo chugainn an féidir linn leanúint le leabhair scoile a thabhairt ar chíos  do dhaoine nach n-íocann astu.

Most of you have made great efforts to make a contribution towards your child’s school costs through the Bille Scoile. As you know the bille covers the cost of 24/7 insurance for your child, inside and outside of school, the costs of extra subjects covered including swimming, dancing and gymnastics and of course the major savings you make by renting rather than buying books in the middle and senior classes. We would appreciate any contribution you can make and you can pay online by using the Pay Now button on www.osrai.com We will unfortunately have to review the book rental scheme in September for those who make no contribution.

Gaeilge

Táimid fíor-bhuíoch de bhur dtacaíocht an téarma seo i dtaobh chúrsaí Ghaeilge de. Le do thoil an féidir a threisiú le do pháiste thar an samhradh go bhfuil Riail na Gaeilge mar an riail is tabhachtaí inár scoilne agus gurb í an fáth gur phioc sibh ár scoilne sa chéad áit? Ní chuirfear suas le páistí nach bhfuil sásta Gaeilge a labhairt an t-am ar fad i dtimpeallacht na scoile agus mar chuid d’aon imeachtaí a bhaineann leis an scoil. Is féidir leat mar thuismitheoir cabhrú tríd an Ghaeilge a spreagadh sa bhaile trí TG4 agus Raidio na Gaeltachta a roghnú, trí leabhair Ghaeilge a cheannach nó a fháil ón leabharlann agus dár ndóigh trí pé Gaeilge atá agat a labhairt le’d pháiste. Cad faoi chóisireacha breithlá a bheith go hiomlán tré Ghaeilge, mar shampla?!

We are most grateful for your support in terms of the use of Irish by your child. Can you please reinforce over the holidays the face that Riail na Gaeilge is the most important rule of our school and is the reason why you chose our school with its special language ethos in the first place. We will not tolerate children who persist in refusing to speak the language at all times in our school or on school activities. As a parent you can help over the summer by choosing and encouraging your child to chose TG4 and Raidio na Gaeltachta as options (again in the gluaisteán on long journeys is ideal), buying or borrowing leabhair Ghaeilge from the library and of course speaking whatever bit of Gaeilge you have to your children. If you’re near a Gaeltacht area, do take the chance to use the cúpla focail and another suggestion we’ve made before is to organise a birthday or other party trí Ghaeilge ar fad.

Páirc Nua

Tá ár bpáirc uile-aimsire beagnach réidh go hiomlán anois chun úsáid. Táimid fíor-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Michelle agus Séamus agus Margaret Greene don dea-obair ar fad. Chomh maith le sin, fuaireamar cabhair iontach ó Eamon Kealy, fear chéile Múinteoir Dearbhail a thug a thaithí ghairmiúil ar chúrsaí páirce go flaithiúil dúinn. Beidh an páirc ar fáil go hiomlán do na paistí i mí Meán Fomhair agus táimid ag súil le hoscailt oifigiúil a bheith againn sa bhfómhar. Beidh an páirc ar fáil do ghrúpaí gur maith leo é a thógaint ar chíos sa bhfómhar chomh maith.

Our new Astroturf, all-weather pitch is almost ready for full use and our classes have been getting their first introduction to it this week. We are hugely thankful to Múinteoir Michelle and Séamus and Margaret Greene for all their hard work in bringing this project to fruition as well as Eamon Kealy, husband of Múinteoir Dearbhail for his expertise throughout the project. We acknowledge also the assistance of a major grant from the Department of Sport and our partners Clara GAA club, particularly David Shortall for their co-operation. The pitches will be in full use by the children and available for hire from September onwards.

Lá Spoirt

Bhí lá spoirt den scoth againn i bPáirc Séamus Stiofáin, Gort na Learóige, le déanaí. Táimid fíor-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Michelle agus an Coiste Scoil Ghníomhach don obair ar fad ar an lá.

We had a wonderful sports day in James Stephen’s Larchfield pitch last week. Thanks to Muinteoir Michelle and our Active School Committee for all their hard work on the day.

Seó Talainn agus Bosca!

Bhí seó talainn den scoth againn an Aoine seo chaite. Taréis chomórtas iontach i ngach rang, piocadh duine nó ghrúpa amháin ó gach rang chun páirt a ghlacadh sa chomórtas scoile san halla. Bhí an-lá idir aithriseoireacht, rinnce, canadh agus greann ann agus b’iad Saoirse Ní Ghadhra agus Niamh Ní Mhuirí, Rang a Sé, a bhuaigh an chomórtas. Comhgáirdeachas do gach éinne a ghlac pairt agus buíochas do Mhúinteoir Ruth don smaoineamh agus don obair go léir.

Guímid gach rath ar Shaoirse  agus ar Fionn Ó Duibhir a bheidh san iomaíocht thar cheann Chill Chainnigh i bhFleadh Cheoil Laighin i mí Iúil. Ghlac Fionn le bosca cheoil álainn nua a bhronn Nioclás Dunphy, Cathaoirleach Chomhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Chill Chainnigh orainn an tseachtain seo mar aitheantas d’úsáid ár scoilne don bhFleadh anuraidh.

We had a wonderful School talent show in the halla last Friday which was the culmination of competitions in all our classes with one act from each class competing in the final. It was a wonderful day of acting, singing, dancing and instrumental performances and the winners on the day were Saoirse and Niamh from Rang a 6. Thanks to Múinteoir Ruth and her hardworking judges, Múinteoir Siobhán and Claire Kilkenny for their hard work in putting the show together.

We also wish Saoirse and Fionn Ó Duibhir the best of luck in the Leinster Fleadh Cheoil where they will represent Kilkenny in the singing and accordion competitions. Fionn accepted a lovely new accordion on behalf of the school from county chair of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Nicholas Dunphy, presented to the school in thanks for the use of our building for last year’s Fleadh Laighin. Local accordion teacher Derek Morrissey will be teaching the ‘box’ in September to any children interested in taking part while fiddle classes will continue with Anthony McAuley along with feadóg stáin across all classes. Please encourage your children to join our grúpa cheoil and of course our school choir, both of which have been so successful in recent years.

Comhgáirdeachas

Comhgáirdeachas mhór do Mhúinteoir Maria Bríd agus Nioclás as ucht bhreith Déaglán, a bhuachaillín deas rua nua, deartháir to Frank. Comhgáirdeachas chomh maith do Mhúinteoir Deirdre Maria agus a chéile Kevin a rugadh cailín álainn, Clodagh, dóibh cúpla seachtain ó shin. Bhí ócáid mhór ag Múinteoir Méabh Ní Fhloinn chomh maith nuair a phós sí féin agus a ghrá-gheal Pádraig i mí Bealtaine. Guímid saol fada, sona acu le chéile agus mí na meala den scoth.

We warmly congratulate Múinteoirí Maria Bríd and Nioclás who welcomed their second son Declan last week, a brother for the smiling Frank. Múinteoir Deirdre Maria and husband Kevin also welcomed their first cailín, Clodagh in recent weeks, a sister for Odhrán. Múinteoir Méabh F had a huge occasion in May when she married sweetheart Pádraig. We wish them a long and happy life together and a great honeymoon!

Buíochas

Táimid thar a bheith buíoch do na daoine ar fad a dhéanann obair deonach thar cheann na scoile tríd an bhliain. Do Cháit Ní Mhurchú, Cathaoirleach an Bhoird Bainistíochta agus na baill eile Múinteoir Nioclás, Cathnia Ó Muircheartaigh, Liam Ó Maoldomhnaigh, Caroline Clifford, Máire Ní Mhóráin agus John Grace, táimid fíor-bhuíoch daoibh ar fad de bhúr saothar in aisce dúinn.

Do Éimear Lee agus ár gcoiste iontach na dtuismitheoirí, ár mbuíochas chomh maith agus dár ndóigh don gCoiste Rith Beo a d’eirigh leo níos mó ná €7,000 a bhailiú arís i mbliana d’ár leabharlann nua agus ócáid fíor-taitneamhach a thaispeáin spoioraid ár scoilne i ngach slí, go raibh míle maith agaibh.

We are hugely thankful to all our volunteers who give so freely of their time during the year. To our Board of Management in particular, a huge thanks to Cathaoirleach Cáit Ní Mhurchú, Múinteoir Nioclás, Cathnia Ó Muircheartaigh. Liam Moloney, Caroline Clifford, Máire Ní Mhóráin and of course Treasurer John Grace we hugely appreciate all your time given so freely for the smooth running of our school.

To Eimear Lee as chair and all our Parents Association volunteers and of course our energetic Rith Beo committee who managed to raise more than €7,000 again this year towards our wonderful new library which will open in September we extend our gratitude too. Rith Beo 2017 saw our biggest ever number of entrants and we thank Affidea Ireland, Guiney’s Kilkenny and Petmania as our main sponsors and all our other sponsors for their support.

We also thank all the members of our Health Promoting School, Active School, School Garden, Music and Green Schools committees who give us their time and expertise. Feel free to take away fruit and veg from Gairdín na Scoile over the summer if you’re passing by!

Bua Spoirt

Comhgáirdeachas mhór dár Rang a Dó a bhuaigh craobh na cathrach nuair a bhuadar ar scoil Naomh Chainnigh i bPáirc Uí Nualláin cúpla seachtain ó shin. Do dhein Múinteoirí Maria agus Máire Ruth sár-jab leo agus bhí na páistí go hiontach ar an lá. Maith sibh do na páistí eile ó Rang a 3 go 6 a ghlac páirt chomh maith. Comhgáirdeachas dár bhfoireann iomána a thaisteal go Uarán Mhóir na Gaillimhe agus a bhuaigh Corn Kyle Mhic Bhrain i gcoinne Gaelscoileanna ó chúige Chonnacht, na Mumhan agus Laighean don gceathrú uair coicís ó shin agus míle buíochas do Mhúinteoir Brian a bhí leo ar an lá agus Múinteoir Nioclás a thug an méid sin chabhair dóibh i rith na bliana.

Roghnaíodh mar imreoir A na bliana Shane Ó Glinn agus imreoir B na bliana, Liam Ó hÚallacháin, a bhfuair a chuid duaiseanna ag an tionól ar an Máirt. Ba Rós Ní Cheallaigh, Rang a 6, a bhuaigh duais imreoir na bliana sa chamógaíocht. Buíochas do Mhúinteoirí Ivan agus Siobhán don dea-obair leis an bhfoireann chamógaíochta i mbliana.

Comhgáirdeachas speisialta le Jack Aighlmear a bheidh ag imirt i gcluiche Chumann na mBunscoil le linn leath-chraobh peile na hÉireann i bPáirc an Chrócaigh agus go Freya Hardy Petit de Mange a bheidh ag imirt sa chluiche leath-ama le linn Chraobh Peile na hÉireann i mí Meán Fomhair ann chomh maith.

Congratulations to Rang a Dó who had a wonderful win over St. Canice’s school to claim the city second class title in Nowlan Park in recent weeks. Well done to Múinteoirí Maria and Máire Ruth who did a great job preparing them for the occasion. Well done also to all the children form Rang a 3 to 6 who took part in the city leagues and got great enjoyment out of the clashes with our local rivals!

A huge well done to our senior hurling team who won the Kyle Mac Bhrain tournament organised by Gaelscoil de hÍde in Oranmore, Co. Galway for the fourth time two weeks ago. They were in competition with Gaelscoileanna from Munster, Leinster and of course Connacht. Thanks to Múinteoir Brian for his coaching on the day and to Muinteoir Nioclás for his work with the team during the year also.

Shane from Rang a 6 and Liam from Rang a 5 were chosen as the A and B players of the year and accepted their trophies at tionól on Tuesday. Rós from Rang a 6 was presented with the camogie player of the year award also and we are hugely thankful to Múinteoir Siobhán and Ivan for their unstinting work with the girls this year.

Finally, was are delighted that Jack from Rang a 6 will represent our school and the county in the half time Cumann na mBunscoil game at the All Ireland football semi-final in August while Freya will get to play in the game at the All-Ireland football final in September.

Coláiste Pobail Osraí

Tá Coláiste Pobail Osraí ag ceiliúradh 25 Bliain ar an bhfód an bhliain seo agus beidh ócáid mhór acu in Óstán Langton’s ar an Déardaoin, an 26ú Deireadh Fomhair. Beidh fáilte roimh iar-scoláirí, tuismitheoirí agus cairde na scoile ar an oíche.

Chomh maith le sin, tá an scoil ag súil go mór le tógáil na scoile nua in Iarthar na Cathrach go luath. Tá grúpa maith scoláirí ónár scoilne ag dul ar aghaidh go dtí an Choláiste i mí Meán Fomhair agus tá sé i gceist againn cruinniú eolais a bheith againn sa Ghaelscoil do thuismitheoir Rang 1 4-6 ag tús mí Meán Fomhair chun buntáistí an oideachais dara leibhéal lán-Ghaelach agus pleananna don scoil nua a phlé. Bí cinnte go bhfuil an Choláiste san áireamh agaibh agus sibh ag féachaint ar rogha na blianta romhainn.

Coláiste Pobail Osraí will celebrate 25 years of wonderful education trí Ghaeilge at a major function in Langton’s Hotel on Thursday 26th October and all past students, parents and friends of the school are welcome. Of course the school, which was founded by parents of our first Rang a 6 in Gaelscoil Osraí to ensure their children could continue their education in the Irish language, is also looking forward to its brand new, state of the art independent and stand-alone school, with the best of sporting and other learning facilities in the West of Kilkenny city in the next few years. We will host a meeting of all parents from Rang a 4 to Rang a 6 in early September to outline the advantages of continuing bilingual education in this award-winning school and we urge you to encourage your children to actively consider the Coláiste, with its fantastic track record of academic, sporting and personal achievement when thinking about their choices in the coming years.

Slán Abhaile

Ag an deireadh, guímid samhradh iontach oraibh ar fad. Míle buíochas dár múinteoirí, cúntóirí, rúnaithe Eileen agus Siobhán, glantóirí Bernie agus Gerry, ár gcabhraitheoir speisialta Emma agus coimeádaí iontach Frankie.

We wish you all a wonderful summer and thanks to all our teachers, Special Needs Assistant Mags and Rita, our secretaries Eileen and Siobhán, our cleaners Bernie and Gerry, our special staff member Emma and of course our wonderful caretaker Frankie.

I’ll sign off with inspiring words from the wonderful Principal of St. Louis Senior Primary school, Rathmines, Pádraic Carney, who tragically lost his life while cycling to school last week. We offer our condolences to his family and colleagues but will take inspiration from his greeting to students on his school website last September. Suaimhneas na síoraí agat Pádraic and may your passing give us all a sense of perspective and an appreciation of the importance of living for the moment.

“There is a lot to be grateful for and much to look forward to. I ask that all our pupils do their very best in every aspect of school life. Remember that ‘doing your best is more important than being the best’ If you do your best in everything there is no more I can ask.”

Bíodh samhradh álainn againn ar fad.

Máistir Seán

Nuachtlitir Tús na Bliana/Beginning of Year Newsletter

Nuachtlitir Tús na Bliana 2016/2017

Fáilte chroíúil ar ais ar scoil gach éinne agus failte speisialta roimh ár gcaoga seacht naíonáin beaga nua. Tá 434 páiste linn i mbliana agus táimid ag súil le bliain iontach foghlama, spraoi agus iontaisí an tsaoil. Beimid ag súil le bheith ag comhoibriú libh mar thuismitheoirí chun go mbeidh suaimhneas agus sonas ag ár bpáistí agus go réiteofar aon fhadhb chomh tapaidh agus chomh i slí éifeachtach agus gur féidir linn le chéile.

A particular welcome to our 57 new Junior Infants in Múinteoir Maria Bríd and Jennifer’s classes. We have 434 children this year and look forward to a wonderful year of learning, play and the wonders and surprises of life. We look forward to working together with you as parents to ensure your child’s wellbeing and happiness and also to finding a way to deal with any occasional problems that may arise as quickly and effectively as we all would like. We remind you, therefore that a problem brought to our attention quickly is always the easiest one to solve.

Laethanta Saoire na Bliana

Seo a leanas na laethanta saoire i rith na bliana. Here are the holiday arrangements for the year to help you plan the escapes! Please try to limit the time your child misses in school outside of these times and please make a special effort too to be on time in the morning J

Slán le Gráinne

Tá an-bhrón orainn go ndúramar slán le Múinteoir Gráinne Ní Chinnéide i rith an tsamhraidh. Tá post faighte ag Gráinne i nGaelscoil Átha Í, áit a bhfuil sí féin, a fear chéile Damien agus Mícheál óg ina chónaí. Tháinig Gráinne chugainn i 2005 agus tá aon bhliain déag iontach, spreagúil caite aici mar mhúinteoir ranga den scoth. Thug sí a cuid Ghaoluinn iontach Chorca Dhuíbhne d’ár bpáistí leis an béim ar shaibhreas teanga agus í i gcónaí ag súil le hard-chaighdeán, rud a bhain na paistí faoina cúram amach le meangadh mór gáire ar a chuid aghaidheanna. I measc ár bhfoireann, ba anam na cóisire í i gcónaí agus ní bheifeá riamh i ndroch-foirm taréis casadh léi. Bhí sí dílis do agus thar a bheith bródúil as an gcaighdeán ard a bhaineamar ar fad amach. Guímid gach uile rath ar Ghráinne agus tá a fhios againn go bhfuil seod múinteora faighte ag lucht Chill Dara.

It is with a heavy heart that we said goodbye during the summer to Múinteoir Gráinne Ní Chinnéide after a wonderful eleven years as a class teacher in our school. Gráinne is heading north to our neighbours in Gaelscoil Átha Í in Athy where she, her husband Damien and young son Micheál have been living for the last few years. Gráinne brought us her wonderfully rich Gaeilge from the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht and the children who were lucky enough to have been taught her learned a richness of language that they hardly noticed, such was Gráinne’s easy way of getting the best from them in every way. As a staff member, Gráinne was always the life and soul of the party and was unerringly proud of and positive about the high standards and great atmosphere our school has always had at its core. We will miss Gráinne and wish her the very best in the future. Gaelscoil Átha Í have gotten a gem who has left her mark in the marble city.

Guímid gach rath chomh maith ar Mhúinteoir Martina Delaney. Tá dhá bhliain caite ag Martina ag roinnt poist sa tacaíocht foghlama linn agus tá sí ag filleadh anois ar Scoil Shóisear Naomh Eoin. Bhí Martina i gcónaí cinneálta agus éifeactach mar mhúinteoir le cuid d’ár bpáistí go raibh spreagadh uathu agus chuir sí go mór lenár scoil i gcoitinne. Arís, guímid ádh mór uirthi amach anseo.

We also wish Múinteoir Martina Delaney the very best as she heads back to St. John’s Junior School, having been job sharing in our school for the past two years. Martina was a considerate and effective teacher for many of our children in the learning support position and added greatly to our school. We also wish her the very best in the future.

Bille Scoile

Tá bille scoile na bliana seo coimeádta againn díreach mar a bhí anuraidh. Iarraimid ort an bille a íoc chomh luath agus is féidir agus beidh tarrac againn arís d’aon tuismitheoir atá íoctha go hiomlán roimh deireadh mí Mheán Fomhair.

The school contribution for your child has been kept at the exact same level as last year. Please remember this amount covers essential costs in the school including 24-hour insurance for your child, inside and outside of school, the book rental scheme in the senior classes and the costs of the extra tuition in sports, yoga, dance and swimming which our parents have always valued. You can pay your contribution now by clicking on the ‘Pay Now’ tab at www.osrai.com and entering the email address you use to receive school emails. All children whose bill is fully paid by the end of October will enter a draw to receive a full refund of the bille.

Lón Sláintiúil-Buíochas don dtacaíocht

Táimid fíor-bhuíoch don bhfáilte atá curtha ag tuismitheoirí roimh na treoirlínte nua atá curtha amach againn faoin lón sláintiúil sa scoil. Mar is eol daoibh, is taréis plé fada i measc pobal uile na scoile a thánamar ar an bpolasaí seo mar chuid d’obair ár gcoiste Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte. Chuireamar suirbhé go gach tuismitheor anuraidh agus bhí tromlach agaibh i bhfábhar deireadh a chur le ‘treat na hAoine’ ar mhaithe le sláinte ár bpáistí chomh maith le cur i bhfeidhm níos láidre de na moltaí atá againn. Más maith leat a bheith páirteach san obair seo, tá fáilte i gcónaí roimh aon tuismitheoir gur mhaith leo a bheith ann. Tá an dréacht-pholasaí agus an liosta de na bia agus deochanna atáimid ag moladh ag an nasc seo.

http://www.osrai.com/polasaithe-na-scoile-school-policies/polasai-lon-slaintiuilhealthy-lunch-policy/

We are very thankful for your support and welcome for our revised healthy lunch policy. This policy has been reviewed as part of a lengthy process of consultation with all the school community, particularly you as parents. The survey which the majority of families completed was overwhelmingly in favour of ending the ‘Friday treat’ and stronger enforcement of the clear rules we now have to encourage healthier eating in our school. The decision to implement a healthy eating policy was one taken by our parents in the first place and is a major part of our image as a health promoting school. Our committee has five parents on it and we actively welcome any others who would like to take part. This is viewed as a very positive contribution to our children’s health in a society trying to come to grips with the huge issues of childhood health. You can find the draft policy and list of the recommended and discouraged foods at this link on our website.

Guímid gach rath ar imreoirí chamógaíochta an chontae ar an Domhnach seo, go háirithe Laura Ní Mhurchú ar phainéal sinsir agus Ciara Ní Fhaoláin ar phainéal idirmheánach atá beirt ina n-iarscoláirí na scoile. Tréaslaímid chomh maith le Sinéad Ní Chaoimh, Caoilfhionn Ní Argáin, Ailbhe de Gaillí, Saoirse Ní Chumascaigh, Aoibhe Ní Ghormáin agus Ciara Ní Dhubhshláine a bhuaigh craobh sinsir an chontae sa Pheil Ghaelach le Cathair Chill Chainnigh agus go neirí leo i gcraobh Laighin amárach.

We wish the Kilkenny camogie teams the very best in Sunday’s  All Ireland finals, particularly past pupils Laura Ní Mhurchú on the senior panel and Ciara Ní Fhaoláin on the Intermediate panel. We also congratulate Sinéad Ní Chaoimh, Caoilfhionn Ní Argáin, Ailbhe de Gaillí, Saoirse Ní Chumascaigh, Aoibhe Ní Ghormáin agus Ciara Ní Dhubhshláine on their victory in the county ladies football senior final last week with Kilkenny City and commiserate with Bláthnaid de Gaillí on the defeated Thomastown team.

D’oibrigh Caroline sa scoil chomh maith mar mhúinteoir ealaíne, uaireanta go hiomlán deonach. Beidh a rian go deo ar saol ár scoilne de bharr an lógó iontach a chruthaigh sí dúinn atá ar éide scoile gach páiste ó lár na hochtóidí ar aghaidh. Beidh Caroline go deo inár gcuimhne agus bheadh áthas an domhain uirthi gur thosaigh a céad garpháiste Noah linn cúpla lá taréis a bás. Beidh a hoidhreacht slán sábhálta ar feadh i bhfad eile.

We send our sincere sympathies to the Sloane family on the recent and untimely death of Caroline at far too young an age. Caroline had battled illness bravely. Caroline was a parent of our school with daughter Eli and son Ben but also worked as an art teacher, quite often giving generously of her time on a voluntary basis. She will remain at the  heart of our school however as a result of designing our wonderful school crest which takes pride of place in halla na scoile and on the shirts and ‘geansaí’s’ of all our children. Caroline was delighted that her first grandchild Noah started in our school though unfortunately she just missed out on being there to accompany him. Go mbeidh leaba i measc na naoimh agat Caroline.

Nuachtlitir Meán Fomhair 2015/September 2015 Newsletter

Nuachtlitir mí Meán Fomhair 2015.

Fáilte chroíúil ar ais ar scoil roimh gach éinne idir foireann na scoile, tuismitheoirí agus ar ndóigh, ár bpaistí iontacha. Fáilte ar leith roimh ár 60 naíonáin bheaga nua faoi chúram múinteoirí Jennifer agus Méabh. Arís i mbliana bhí 140 iarratas ar na háiteanna sin agus is moladh iontach é sin d’ár scoil ar gach bhonn. Táimid ag súil le bliain iontach ag comhoibriú le chéile ar mhaithe le barr feabhais foghlama agus múineadh a bheith againn.

A very hearty welcome back to school to all, including all our staff, you as parents and of course our 436 wonderful students. A particular welcome to our 60 new Junior Infants under the care of Múinteoir Jennifer and Méabh. They were the lucky ones from 140 applicants for those places. We look forward to a great year of learning and teaching which will maintain our standards of excellence but also what we hope is our ongoing atmosphere of welcome and good spirits in what we always hope is a great working and learning environment for all. We look forward to your ongoing cooperation with all of this.

Cumarsáid/Communication

Mar is eol díobh, is scoil an-oscailte sinn ó thaobh cumarsáid rialta libh mar thuismitheoirí. Lasmuigh de na cruinnithe tuismitheoirí/múinteoirí a bheidh ar siúl i mí na Samhna ó Rang na Naíonáin Mhóra go Rang a 6 agus i mí Eanair do na Naíonáin Bheaga, bímid ar fáil chun cainte le tuismitheoirí nuair go bhfuil gá. Tá sé an-tábhactach, áfach, go leanaimid ar fad ár bpolasaí cumarsáide sa chás seo. Dár ndóigh, is féidir nóta a sheoladh isteach agus uaireanta sábhálann sin aon gá le cruinniú. Ba chóir coinneadh a lorg tríd na hoifige chun labhairt le Múinteoir nó an Máistir ag am a oireann do thuismitheoirí agus an múinteoir. Nuair go bhfuil an choinneadh á dhéanamh, ba chóir cur síos an-ghairid a thabhairt mar gheall ar cad faoi a bhfuil an chruinniú, m.sh. ‘fadhb sa chlós’, ‘fadhb le páiste eile sa rang’,’ imní faoi chúrsaí foghlama’ 7rl a thabhairt don rúnaí ionas go bhfuil tuairim éiginn ag an Múinteoir. Níl aon gá scéal iomlán a insint don rúnaí nuair go mbeidh sé á phlé leis an Múinteoir ar aon nós. Nuair go bhfuil cruinniú ar siúl tá sé thar a bheith tábhactach go mbíonn gach éinne ar an dá thaobh béasúil agus gairmiúil ina slí cumarsáide. Ní ghlacfar riamh le hionsaithe pearsanta ó bhéal nó dar ndóigh in aon slí eile. Ná bí ag iarraidh rudaí móra a phlé le múinteoirí ar maidin nó tráthnóna nó ag aon am go bhfuil páistí faoina gcúram acu le bhur dtoil.

As you know, our school is well-known to be a very open one in terms of communicating with you as parents. Outside of our formal parent/teacher meetings, we are also available to meet you at any time if necessary to discuss issues of importance for your child. We do remind you however that it is important for all of us to follow the school’s communication policy. The quickest and easiest way to communicate with your teacher is by sending a note or a quick email to the teacher and this often allows small misunderstandings to be ironed out quickly. If you still feel you need a meeting to iron issues out, it is important that you seek a meeting through the school office with the relevant teacher or with the Máistir if necessary where issues haven’t been concluded with the teacher. This meeting should be at a time that is suitable for both sides. When you are requesting a meeting, please give a very brief outline of the reason for the meeting to the school secretary, for example ‘problem on the yard’, ‘problem with another child’, ‘concern about a learning issue’ etc. There is no need to give a long version of a story which you will have to repeat to the teacher in any case. When meetings are taking place, there is a responsibility on all sides to be respectful and professional in our dealings with each other. Personal attacks of any sort, either verbally or of course in any other fashion are unacceptable at all times. Finally we ask you to avoid ‘door-stepping’ type meetings with staff members. This is particularly the case in the morning or at the end of the school day when the teacher has a class under their care. All of these rules are necessary so that our school can continue to be a place where we value each other’s opinions but where teaching and learning can continue in a professional and caring way.

Bille Scoile

Chun a chur i gcuimhne duit go bhfuil seans agat bille scoile do pháiste amháin a bhuachaint ar ais má tá an bille íoctha agat roimh an 30ú Meán Fomhair. Míle buíochas don iarracht atá déanta go dtí seo.

We’d like to remind you again that you have the chance to get a refund on your child’s bill for school expenses if you have paid in full by Sept 30th. We are very grateful for your cooperation to date. Remember you can pay online by using the ‘Pay Now’ tab on our websitewww.osrai.com

Beidh an oíche deireanach don gceiliúradh 30 Bliain ar siúl in Óstan Chill Chainnigh ar an Satharn an 28ú Samhain. Is seans iontach é seo chun oíche luath na Nollag a bheith agat le do chairde agus comh-tuismitheoirí. Beidh béim chomh maith ar ár niar-scoláirí le seans acu bord a chur san áirithe le chéile. You can buy your tickets at https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/ceiliuradh-30-bliain-30-year-celebration-tickets-17234510886 and we encourage groups of parents, past pupils and others to organise tables. All proceeds go to the school building fund.

Suíomh idirlíne na Scoile

Táimid ag déanamh iarracht mhór ár suíomh idirlíne a bheith chomh lán agus is féidir i mbliana. Beidh na dátaí tábhactacha ar fad á chur suas ar an bhféilire agus beidh leathanaigh ranga uasdhátaithe chomh maith. Chomh maith le sin tá cead ag aon duine nach bhfuil mar mhacléinn sa scoil a bheith cáirdiúil le leathanach Facebook na scoile ar www.facebook.com/gaelscoilosrai agus sinn a leanúint at Twitter @gaelscoilosrai nó @Rang6GSO.

We are making a big effort this year to add to our school website at www.osrai.com In particular the calendar section will be regularly updated with important events and we hope that most of our class pages will have some input on your children’s work. Don’t forget also that all the school’s newletters are on the site. You can also follow the school’s Facebook page on www.facebook.com/gaelscoilosrai or our Twitter accounts @gaelscoilosrai or @Rang6GSO

Coiste na dTuismitheoirí

Beidh cruinniú bliantúil Coiste na dtuismitheoirí ar siúl sa scoil ar an Luan an 5ú Deireadh Fomhair ag 8.00 pm. Beidh cainteoir speisialta ann ar an oíche ó Chomhairle Náisiúnta na dTuismitheoirí ag cainte faoi do ról in oideachais do phaiste agus i saol na scoile. Bheadh sé iontach dá mbeadh tuismitheoir amháin ann ó gach chlann más féidir. Toghfar an choiste nua an oíche sin agus bheimis buíoch d’ionadaí amhain ar a laghad ó gach rang sa scoil. Toghfar na hoifigí don gcoiste chomh maith ar an oíche. Má tá suim agat a bheith pairteach, seol ephoist go tuisti@osrai.com le’d thoil.

The annual meeting of our Parents Association takes place n Monday 5th October at 8.00 pm in our new school foyer. We will have a guest speaker on the night who is Sharon Hayden from the National Parents Council speaking on ‘Your role in your child’s education and in the life of the school.’ We will also have the election (or volunteering!) of class reps and the officers of the association on the night. Please let us know if you’d like to play a role during the year by emailing tuisti@osrai.com before the meeting. Given that we have a guest speaker, we would be delighted if at least one parent from each family could attend on the night and we will have teas and coffees and refreshments after the meeting ends.

Páirceáil

Cuirimid i gcuimhne díobh go mbíonn gearáintí rialta againn ónár gcomharsain atá ag maireachtaint sa cheanntar. Iarraimid oraibh páirceáil i gcarrchlósanna ALDI, LIDL nó Smithlands Court agus ligean do pháistí siúl an chuid eile den slí ar scoil, gan nó le tuismitheoir. Tagann sé seo le polasaithe scoil ag spreagadh sláinte, scoil ghníomhach agus scoil ghlas. Ná páirceáil riamh ar na cosáin nó ag cur isteach ar radharc iontrala nó fágála na heastáit timpeall orainn. Ní bheidh an chlós ós comhair na scoile in úsáid arís mar ionad páirceála.

We remind you once again that parking in the vicinity of the school is a source of constant complaints from our neighbours. We ask you to park in the carparks at LIDL, ALDI and Smithlands Court shopping centre and to walk with your child or let them walk from these areas. We also remind you that walking and cycling as far as possible to the school is a central part of our school’s Health Promoting, Active School promoting and of course Green School policies. Most importantly however, none of our parents should ever park illegally on footpaths as this blocks access for a number of disabled people living locally and involved in our school community as well as parents using buggies. It is also vital that access to and clear vision when exiting our neighbouring estates is vital for everybody’s safety. We ask you also to show your children how to safely use the pedestrian crossings around the school. The Board of Management and staff are agreed that the former turning point in the school is necessary for use of our pupils at lunch breaks for play activities and therefore we will not be reopening this system to traffic as it was in the past. We also remind you that only staff parking is now allowed inside the school gates and ask you not to walk through the staff car park at ANY time.

Ranganna Gaeilge

Beidh ranganna Gaeilge do thuismitheoirí ag tosú sa scoil ag Múinteoir Ivan an Luan seo chugainn an 28ú Meán Fomhair ag 7.00 pm. Tá costas €40 ar ocht seachtain ar na ranganna agus is luach iontach airgid é sin.

Múinteoir Ivan will be providing Irish language classes for parents beginning next Monday the 28th September. The price of €40 for eight weeks is great value and registration will be on the night. Leanaigí oraibh ag labhairt Gaeilge le na múinteoirí timpeall na scoile. Please continue with your great efforts to use your Gaeilge around the school. Remember that there is no such thing as ‘Bad Irish’ in our eyes and we won’t be correcting your grammar! Your efforts, however small, have a huge impact on your child’s attitude to the language. Remember also to switch the channel on your radio or TV to Raidio na Gaeltachta or TG4 which helps hugely.

Ranganna Giotáir

Beidh Mark McGrath ag cur ranganna ukulele agus giotáir ar fáil sa scoil i ndiaidh am scoile ar an Déardaoin seo, an 24ú Meán Fomhair ag 3.00 pm. Is féidir áit a chur in áirithe ach glaoch ar Mark ag 085-7132946. Is do pháistí ag leanúint ar aghaidh a bheidh an chéad cúpla seachtain agus beidh ranganna tosaitheoirí ar siúl i ndiaidh briseadh na Samhna.
Mark McGrath begins his guitar and ukulele classes after school again this Thursday at 3.00 pm. Please contact Mark on 085-7132946 for details. The classes for the first few weeks will be for those continuing from last year and beginners classes start after the October break.

Club Osraí

Tá Club Osraí ag rith inár scoil le na blianta fada le cabhair Ógras, an óg-eagraíocht náisiúnta Ghaeilge agus fá choimirce an Chlár um Chríochnú Scoile go bhfuilimid páirteach ann. Tá an club ag athosú an Máirt seo chugainn ag 4.00 pm agus iarraimid oraibh bhúr bpáistí Rang a 5 agus 6 a spreagadh chun Gaeilge a labhairt lasmuigh den scoil.

The school has hosted Club Osraí, our Irish language youth club for fifth and sixth class children for many years. The club is affiliated to Ógras, the national Irish language youth organisation and is provided by the School Completion Programme, which our school benefits from hugely. The club will restart next Tuesday the 29th and we urge you to encourage your child to attend as a great way of experiencing Gaeilge as a living language outside of school hours.

Nuachtlitir na Bliana Nua/ New Year Newsletter

Nuachtlitir mí Eanair 2015

Athbhliain faoi shéan is faoi mhaise díobh ar fad is sinn ar ais ar scoil sa bhliain nua. Is bliain mhór i saol na scoile atá romhainn. iPads

Tá banc iPads ag teacht chun na scoile go luath le cabhair mhór ón t-airgead a bhailigh Coiste na dTuismitheoirí anuraidh. Beidh 32 iPads ar fad againn agus beidh siad in úsáid sna seomraí ranga. Beidh deireadh á chur lenár sean seomra ríomhaireachta ach beidh na ríomhairí atá ann á n-úsáid timpeall na scoile agus inár leabharlann nua.

We will soon welcome a bank of thirty two iPads to the school. This is one of the most significant pieces of investment being made in our school for quite a number of years and is being made possible by the great fundraising done by our Parents Association last year, as well as a grant from the Department under the Minor Works Scheme. The tablets will be used in the classrooms and are fantastic learning tools. Because of this our old computer room will cease to function and the machines in that room will be distributed throughout the school and in our new library.

Ranganna Gaeilge

Beidh ranganna Gaeilge do dhaoine fásta ag tosú sa scoil ar an Máirt an 3ú Feabhra. Tá fáilte roimh na doine a bhí ag freastal ar na ranganna roimh na Nollag teach tar ais ach tá fáilte mhór roimh foghlaimeoirí nua chomh maith.

Classes for adults begin in the school on Tuesday the 3rd February and new learners are very welcome along with those who attended in the first term. The cost of the classes is €50 for ten weeks. You can book your place through the office.
