Teacht ar scoil agus an timpeallacht-Let’s get serious!

Bhí 35 rothar agus scútar a tháinig ar scoil inniu agus inné. Cé go bhfuil sé fuar, ta sé thar a bheith geal. Sa tseachtain go bhfuil COP26 ar siúl i nGlaschú, bheadh sé iontach dá mbeadh na raiceanna rothair agus scútair lán. Táimid ag iarraidh oraibh tacú le páistí a spreagadh chun siúl, rothaíocht, scútáil nó teacht ar an mbus go dtí an scoil. Is cabhair mór iad láimhíní agus éadaí báistí a bheith ag do pháiste agus ba chóir go mbeadh clogad ar gach éinne atá ar rothar nó scútar.

Iarraimid oraibh a chaithfidh teacht sa ghluaisteán páistí a fhágaint chomh fada ón scoil agus gur féidir agus an chuid eile a shiúil nó a scútáil. Má thagann sibh isteach sa chlós, ná suigh sa ghluaisteán agus an inneal ag réchasadh. Cuireann seo dhá oiread an truailliú san aer agus a chuireann gluaisteán ag bogadh. Fág amach do pháiste agus bog ar aghaidh chomh tapaidh agus is féidir.

There were 35 bikes and scooters which came to school today and yesterday. Even though it is cold, it is lovely and bright in the mornings and we can do much better in terms of filling our bike and scooter racks. While we are all listening to the COP26 events in Glasgow this week, it’s important we remember that getting our children to come to school without using a car is the single best thing we can do to improve our environment and change habits for their future. Warm gloves and good wet gear mean we can have children cycling, walking and scooting every day and of course those coming by bus make a huge difference too. Don’t forget that our school asks every child cycling and scooting to wear a helmet.

We also ask those of you who have no option but to travel by car to remember that an idling car emits twice as much CO2 pollution as a moving one. Please let your child out in our drop-off area and move off as quickly as possible. Remember also that your child could walk or scoot from a local car park, lessening the traffic congestion and air pollution for us and our neighbours.

    Páistí ag teacht luath

Tá méid mhaith páistí ag teacht an-luath ar scoil. Tuigimid an brú ar thuismitheoirií ag dul ag obair ach bheimís buioch dá mbeadh páistí ag teacht chomh cóngarach agus is féidir lenár n-am tosnaithe ag 9.10 am.

Níl gá le tuismitheoirí dul timpeall na scoile le páistí. Cabhraíonn sé le neamhspleáchas gach páiste má théann siad go doras na ranga leo féin.

We appreciate your cooperation for the past few mornings with the return to our 9.10 am opening time. While we understand the pressures on you as parents in relation to returning to work, we would please ask that children arrive as close to this opening time as possible.

There is no need for parents to bring junior children around to their classrooms. Making the effort to get your child to walk in from the school entrance makes a huge difference to fostering their independence.

    Bille Scoile

Táimid an-bhuíoch don gceathrú d’ár dtuimsitheoirí atá taréis an bille scoile a íoc cheana féin. Beidh duais arís i mbliana d’aisíoc iomlán bille amháin do thuismitheoirí go bhfuil an bille íoctha roimh an 30 Samhain. Táimid taréis briseadh síos iomlán a dhéanamh ar an mbille, ag clúdú roinnt lacáistí de bharr easpa ranganna snámha 7rl ó anuraidh.

Táimid ag iarraidh na leabhair a fhaigheann do pháiste ar ár scéim chíosach leabhair a bheith soiléir chomh maith. Tá ceadúnais dhigiteacha liostáilte anois do áiseanna cosúil le Bua na Cainte, Accelerated Reader , Starlight agus Spellings for Me san áireamh chomh maith. Anuas ar sin, faigheann do pháiste árachas 24 uair a chloig, laistigh agus lasmuigh den scoil. Cífidh tú an bhriseadh síos ag an nasc anseo.

We are very grateful to the quarter of our parents who have already paid some or all of your child’s bille scoile, helping with school costs and the cost of learning materials etc. Once again, we will have a draw for the full refund of one child’s bille costs for all those who have fully paid by November the 30th. We have provided a comprehensive breakdown of the Bille Scoile for the first time in a few years. You will notice some reductions for those children who missed out on swim sessions last year.

We are also trying to list comprehensively all the books that children avail of through our school book rental scheme. This has seen a dramatic reduction in the number of books you must purchase each year, particularly in the senior classes. We have also included the digital licences for very powerful and useful programmes like Bua na Cainte, Accelerated Reader , Starlight and Spellings for Me, which your child may be availing of for learning at school and at home. Huge thanks to our middle management and Siobhán, our accounts secretary, for all their work on this scheme. Remember you also get 24 hour insurance for your child, inside and outside of school as part of the Bille Scoile.

Please remember also that you can bring any financial concerns in relation to school costs to our attention at any time, and we will treat this with absolute confidentiality. We would love to see the day when all our school facilities and learning materials were free to every child (as they are in the North of Ireland!) and we would urge you to raise this issue with your public representatives. In the meantime thanks again for your support.

    Cruinnithe Tuismitheoirí/Múinteoirí

Beidh na cruinnithe tuismitheoirí/múinteoirí ar siúl arís ar an 17 agus 18 de mhí na Samhna. Beidh tú in ann d’am a chur in áirithe ar Aladdin ó amárach ar aghaidh.

Our annual parent/teacher meetings take place on Wednesday and Thursday the 17th and 18th November after school. You will be able to book your time slot through Aladdin Connect from tomorrow. Please do your best to attend and to catch up with your child’s teacher in this important part of our work together on making your child’s learning as positive as we can.

    Coláiste Pobail Osraí

Ná dearmad gur an Déardaoin seo, an 4 Samhain an dáta deireanach chun iarratas a dhéanamh ar áit i gColáiste Pobail Osraí don bhliain seo chugainn. Tá nasc anseo don oíche oscailte a bhí ag an scoil le déanaí agus bheadh sé go maith do pháistí ó Rang a 3 ar aghaidh féachaint air don dtodhchaí chomh maith.

Don’t forget that this Thursday, the 4th November is the closing date for applications to Coláiste Pobail Osraí for students beginning in 2022. We enclose a link here to the school’s recent Open Night and would encourage all Rang a 6 parents and indeed those from Rang a 3 upwards to have a look and to seriously consider the Coláiste for your child. We are delighted that a large number of our Rang a 6 students have already made applications, bringing us into line with the majority of Gaelscoileanna where upwards of 90% of children continue on to their local Gaelcholáiste.
