    Nuachtlitir na Samhna

Táimid i ngar dhá lá de laethanta saoire na Samhna agus ceapaim go bhfuil gach éinne, foireann na scoile, tuismitheoiri agus dár ndóigh, na páistí ar fad breá réidh don mbriseadh. Táimid thar a bheith buíoch daoibh ar fad don gcomhoibriú leis an dtréimhse deacair seo. Cé nach bhfuil sé éasca bheith foighneach ag an am seo, tá áthas orainn go bhfuil ár scoil taréis fanacht ar oscailt agus go bhfuil aon ceisteanna sláinte go dtí seo taréis críoch sásúil a bheith leo. Tá súil againn gur féidir linn ar fad leanúint ar aghaidh agus go mbeidh rian éigin de ghnáth-Nollaig againn, ar scoil agus sa bhaile.

We’re within two days of the Hallowe’en break and we’re all, between staff, parents and pupils, more than ready for a few days break. We are hugely thankful to you all for your patience and co-operation in these strange times. We are particularly thankful to you for entrusting your children back into our care and for supporting their learning and the catching up we’re all doing together. We’re particularly thankful for the times you’ve kept your children at home when they’re showing signs of illness, in order to protect the health of everybody else in school. We appreciate the sacrifices involved in all of this. We really hope that we can continue on through to the Christmas season as safely as possible and with minimum impact on the heath of anyone in our school community. Bain taitneamh as an mbriseadh.

    Aimsir agus Éadaí

Taréis an t-ádh a bheith linn go dtí seo leis an aimsir, tháinig an báisteach agus an ghaoth an tseachtain seo. Cuirimid in iúil duit arís go bhfuil dualgas orainn faoi na rialacha a bhaineann le COVID 19 na seomraí ranga ina bhfuil na páistí a aerú ar a laghad dhá uair sa lá. Dúramar ag tús na bliana go mbeadh ar pháistí dul amach gach lá agus gur chóir éadaí báistí a bheith acu agus athruithe bróga agus stocaí nuair ba ghá. Tá na múinteoirí ag déanamh a seacht-ndícheall am a fháil nuair nach bhfuil báisteach trom ann chun dul amach ach cruthaíonn sé seo deacracht le socruithe maoirseachta 7rl ar an gclós. Cuirimid i gcuimhne duit go bhfuil brístí and cótaí báistí ar fáil i siopaí cosúil le Padmore and Barnes agus Trespass agus go bhfuil lacáiste do pháistí na Gaelscoile ach go háirithe ar fáil i Padmore and Barnes. Tá fáilte roimh bhautaisí rubair a bheith coimeádta sa scoil má tá sin ag teastáil.

Having been extremely lucky with the weather since March, the rain and wind came early this week. We remind you that the rules for returning to school state that all classrooms must be fully ventilated at least twice a day, meaning that children and staff MUST leave their classrooms for this to happen. We did inform you of this at the beginning of the school year and asked you to ensure that all children had proper rainproof clothing (and that they actually wear it!) Teachers will obviously do their best to find times when it is not raining heavily to leave the classroom, but this is not always possible on a very wet day. There are also considerable difficulties arranging supervision etc outside set break times. We remind you that shops like Trespass and Padmore and Barnes have over trousers and coats at reasonable prices, with the latter shop offering a 10% discount to Gaelscoil Osraí pupils. We would urge you to purchase these items if you can. We are also happy for children to have wellingtons or changes of shoes and socks at school when the need arises. Again, we need to repeat that we are following the advice that ventilation of rooms is one of the key actions advised to protect against the spread of Covid 19 and that is our most important priority at this time. Please note also that the summer uniform involving wearing shorts should have finished on October the 1st. Please ensure all children are wearing full school tracksuit or uniform for the remainder of the Autumn and Winter.

Finally, please note that your children should NOT be arriving before the first drop-off time of 8.50 am. Children arriving before the classes are open are obviously inclined to mix with other classes which is strictly NOT allowed. Remember that 9.00 am is the start time for all the naíonáin bheaga.

    Oíche Shamhna

Níl Oíche Shamhna ar ceal sa scoil. Tá cead ag páistí gléasadh in éadaí bréige an Aoine seo ag teacht le traidisiún fada na scoile. Beidh cead péint aghaidhe a chaitheamh chomh maith. Faraoir, ní féidir rudaí breise, aghaidh-fidil, bataí draíochta, scuaib, hataí nó foltanna ghruaige a bheith ag na páistí ar eagla go roinnfidís idir a chéile iad. Cur i gcuimhne go do pháiste chomh maith le’d thoil, nach bhfuil cead acu súgradh le haon rang ach a gceann féin.

Táimid fós ag leanúint lenár dtraidisiún de airgid a bhailiú ar mhaithe le Ionad Ui Néill, a dheineann obair iontach le páistí le riachtainnisí speisialta inár gcathair. Is féidir leat síntiús a dhéanamh tríd Aladdin más féidir.

Hallowe’en has not been cancelled in Gaelscoil Osraí. Children are allowed to wear fancy dress Hallowe’en costumes on Friday and to have face paint etc on display. Unfortunately extra items including wigs, masks, wands, brooms or other implements which might be shared between children can’t be allowed this year. Please remind your child also that they can only play with members of their own class on the day.

We are again continuing our tradition of fundraising on the day for the O’ Neill Centre, which does wonderful work with special needs children in our city. We cannot accept cash or coins this year, but ask you instead to make an online donation through Aladdin Connect if you are in a position to do so.

    Bille Scoile

Táimid an-bhuíoch do gach éinne a d’íoc an bille scoile go dtí seo. Beidh duais d’aisíoc iomlán ar bhille páiste amháin sa chlann do gach éinne atá an bille iomlán íoctha acu roimh an 30 Samhain.

We are very grateful to all those who have paid the bill for school expenses so far this year. As usual, there will be a draw for a prize of a full refund of the bille paid for one child in a family who have paid in full by November the 30th. Once again, you can pay the bille through Aladdin Connect.

    Féilire agus cártaí na Nollag

Tá Coiste na dTuismitheoirí ag tabhairt faoi féilire na scoile agus cártaí na Nollag a dhéanamh arís i mbliana. Beidh ealaín á dhéanamh sa rang ag do pháiste mar chuid de seo taréis an bhriseadh. Cuirimid scéal chugaibh arís faoi seo.

We are delighted that our Parents Association are again undertaking the school calendar and Christmas cards as fundraisers after the mid-term break. This will involve some art work in school or possibly at home and we’ll send you more detail after the break.

    Cíbear-Slándál/Cyber Safety Talks

Tá an chainteoir iontach ar cíbear-slándála, Ger Brick, ón gcomhlacht www.inetsafetytalk.com ag tabhairt seisiúin eolais dos na páistí sna ranganna sinsearacha taréis an bhriseadh. Beidh seisiúin eolais á dhéanamh aige le ranganna 3-6 On 3 go 5 Samhain. Beidh sé ag déanamh caint eolais le tuismitheoirí na scoile ar tráthnóna Déardaoin an 5 Samhain thar Zoom. Bhí na cainteanna seo thar barr nuair go rabhadar againn dhá bhliain ó shin agus molaimid do gach éinne freastal ar an gcaint iontach seo.

We had the excellent Ger Brick of www.inetsaftety.com deliver superb information talks on internet safety and cyber-bullying to children and parents two years ago. Ger is returning to deliver online sessions to all our children from 3rd to 6th class from the 3rd to the 5th November. He will also deliver a hard-hitting information session to you as parents on the evening of November the 5th over Zoom. These sessions are informative and factual and we strongly recommend you attend the online session on the night.
