Nuachtlitir na Samhna 2015/Hallowe’en Newsletter

Nuachtlitir na Samhna- November Break Newlsetter

Beidh lá gléasadh na bpúcaí againn an Aoine seo. Is féidir le páistí gléasadh in éadaí Oíche Shamhna don lá in áit éide scoile a chaitheamh. Bíodh béim agaibh ar athchúrsáil agus samhlaíocht a úsáid seachas ar airgead a chaitheamh ar chultacha costacha. Bheimís buíoch dá dtabharfadh gach páiste isteach cúpla euro ar mhaithe le Ionad Uí Néill sna Butts a chuireann seirbhís iontach ar fáil do pháistí le Cerebral Palsy.

We have a Hallowe’en dress-up day on Friday and children can wear Hallowe’en outfits instead of their normal school uniforms. We would ask that you would use imagination and recycling skills in the dressing up rather than money being spent on expensive outfits. We would also ask you to let each child bring in a couple of euro donation for the O’ Neill Centre in the Butts, which provides a fantastic service to children with cerebral palsy and their families.

Parking  and care when entering and leaving school
Iarraimid oraibh a chinntiú go bhfuil sibh féin agus bhur bpáistí an-chúramach i dtaobh siúl isteach nó amach ón scoil agus ach go háirithe i dtaobh páirceáil in áiteanna timpeall na scoile.

We ask you please to take note of a number of calls we have received lately about behaviour at the beginning and end of the school day. We have always relied on the goodwill of our neighbouring businesses in Supervalu, LIDL, ALDI and recently in Smithlands Retail Centre in terms of parking for you as parents to drop off your children. This helps our efforts to encourage as much walking to school as possible. It also helps to lessen traffic on the Outrath Road, which has become particularly busy since the building of the Parcnagowen estate, in which many of our families live. Our school board requested a second exit from this estate when it was built which would have seen access from the Waterford Road, but this was ignored by the planning authorities at the time.

In recent times, there have been a number of complaints of inconsiderate parking by some of our parents, including blocking the exit from an underground carpark in Smithlands Centre. Concern has also been expressed about children running through the traffic lanes and not taking enough care when crossing roadways close to the school. We would ask you please not to park illegally on footpaths or close to estate exits. It is the role of an Garda Síochána to police these practices and we have asked them to closely monitor the situation in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we would ask you to do your level best to encourage your children to safely walk and cycle to school when possible and that if you must drive to school, that you would obey all traffic and parking laws.

Líne ar maidin

Iarraimid ort anois do pháiste a fhágáil sa líne leo féin agus lena gcáirde ar maidin. Cabhraíonn sé seo le neamhspleáchas a chruthú i do pháiste. Iarraimid  chomh maith ort é seo a lua go sean-tuismitheoirí agus feighleoirí a bheadh ag fágáil do pháiste.

Things are coming a bit congested around our Naíonáin líne in the mornings so we would ask you to consider leaving your child in the líne in the morning in order to build their independence. We’d also ask you to be conscious of the tight space for the teachers when trying to bring the children into class. Finally, you might also mention this to grandparents or others who might be dropping your child off in the morning.

Seisiún Cheoil

Beidh seisiún cheoil i foyer na scoile ar an Aoine seo ag 1.30 pm. Má sheineann tú aon úirlis cheoil, beidh mór fáilte romhat bualadh isteach chun a bheith páirteach sa seisiún. Déan cinnte de chomh maith go bhfuil feadóg stáin ag do pháiste agus go dtugtar isteach é gach lá.

Our music committee are organising our first music session of the year this Friday at 1.30 pm. If you play an instrument and would like to drop in and join in the craic agus ceol, you’d be more than welcome.  Please ensure your child from Rang a 3 to 6 brings in their instrument on Friday and remember also that a tin whistle is an essential part of your child’s school equipment and should be in their bags at all times, particularly on the days the teacher requests them.

Coiste na dTuismitheoirí/Parents Association Meeting

Beidh cruinniú bliantúil agus seisiún eolais Choiste na dTuismitheoirí ar siúl ar an Luan an 2 Samhain ag 7.30 pm i foyer na scoile. Beidh aoi-chainteoir ann ar an oíche, Sharon Hayden ón NPC agus beidh sí ag caint faoi do ról i bhfoghlaim do pháiste agus ról an choiste i saol na scoile. Beidh cruinniú bliantúil an choiste ar siúl ina dhiaidh agus críochnóidh an oíche le sóláistí ag a 9.00 pm.

An information meeting and the Annual General Meeting of our Parents Association will take place in the school foyer on Monday the 2nd November at 7.30 pm, the evening we return to school. Sharon Hayden of the National Parents Council will speak on ‘Your role in your child’s education and the role of the Parents Association in the life of the school.’ She will be followed by the AGM and the meeting will finish at 9.00 pm with refreshments. We would love a parent from each family to attend.

Mí-ádh sa pheil

Mí-ádh d’ár gcailíní iontacha a chaill leath-chraobh an chontae ar an Luan i gcoinne SN Clárach. Throid na cailíní go fíochmhar ach chailleamar le dhá chúilín. Beidh lá eile acu agus díróimid ar an gcamógaíocht ón Nollaig ar aghaidh. Is Múinteoir Órla agus Máistir Seán a bhí i bhfeighil ar an bhfoireann agus táimid an-bhuíoch chomh maith do na tuismitheoirí ar fad a chabhraigh linn le síobanna agus tacaíocht a thabhairt.

Hard luck to our girls who lost out narrowly in the Roinn A semi-final on Monday to Clara NS. Our girls fought bravely but lost by two points at the end. They will have another day and we will focus on camogie in the Spring. Múinteoir Orla and myself took the team and we would like to thank all those parents who helped out with lifts to games and great support for the girls in recent weeks. We wish all the best to our past pupils taking part in the Senior and Intermediate hurling finals this weekend and indeed in the Minor A and B finals next week also.
