    Nuachtlitir na Bealtaine

Tá áthas orainn fáilte Uí Cheallaigh a fhearaibh roimh beirt bhuachaill ón Úcráin an tseachtain seo. Thosaigh Yehor i Rang a 4 ar an gCéadaoin agus tosóidh Nikita i Rang a 5 ar an Luan. Táimid an-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoirí Ashleigh agus Conor as ucht glacadh leo agus tá súil againn go mbeidh siad sona, sásta inár scoilne.

We are delighted this week to welcome two Ukranian boys to our school. Yehor began in Rang a 4 on Wednesday and Nikita will begin in Rang a 5 on Monday. The boys already speak at least two languages and are looking forward to the challenge of adding Gaeilge to their language list. We are hugely grateful to Múinteoirí Ashleigh and Conor for taking on this challenge and we will also be providing extra language help to the boys with support from the Department of Education.

The families have requested bikes for themselves and their parents and/or a scooter. If there are spares in any house which could be restored, we would gladly accept them.

    An Cailín Ciúin

Tá an scannán seo tosaithe sa phictiúrlann IMC ar Sráid na Beairice ó aréir ar feadh seachtain ar a laghad. Is scannán i nGaeilge den scoth atá ann le an-chuid duaiseanna buaite cheana féin agus léirmheasanna cúig réalt faighte ós na nuachtáin Éireannacha agus fiú ar maidin ón Guardian. Molaimid go mór daoibh dul chun féachaint air an tseachtain seo chun tacú leis agus chun a chinntiú go leanann sé ar aghaidh níos faide sa chathair.

Faraoir, níl sé oiriúnach do pháistí níos óige na 12. Táimid ag féachaint ar dheis chun Rang a 6 a thabhairt chun féachaint air.

This major award-winning Irish language movie began last night in the IMC cinema on Barrack Street and will run for at least a week, depending on demand. We would strongly encourage you as parents to support the movie, the third major release in the Irish language in the past year, after Arracht and Wolfwalkers. The movie has received five star reviews from all our major national newspapers and arts programmes and even in the Guardian this morning.

Because the movie is rated 12A, it is not unfortunately suitable for smaller children. We are, however, looking at the possibility of bringing Rang a 6 to see it.

    Oíche Cheoil agus Gaeilge anocht

Beidh an chéad Pop-up Gaeltacht le fada ar siúl anocht i Kyteler’s ag 8.00 pm. Tá sé eagraithe ag Oisín Mac Cinnéide, iar-mhúinteoir sa Choláiste Pobail agus anois i nGaelcholáiste Cheatharlaigh lena bhean chéile Emma, deirfiúir iar-scoláire na scoile seo agus Gráinne Sabhaois, múinteoir sa Choláiste Pobail chomh maith. Beidh cuid des na ceoltóirií agus amhránaithe is fearr sa cheanntar ag seinnt agus ag canadh anocht, Múinteoir Nell a bheidh ag tosú le Rang a hAon ar an Luan ina measc. Bí linn chun do chúpla focal nó níos mó a labhairt agus craic a bheith againn.

The first Pop-up Gaeltacht since the onset of COVID takes place in Kyteler’s Inn tonight at 8.00 pm. The event is organised by Oisín Mac Cinnéide, former teacher in Coláiste Pobail Osraí and current teacher in Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlaigh and his wife Emma, sister of past pupils of our school along with Múinteoir Gráinne Sabhaois of Coláiste Pobail Osraí and Gaelscoil Mom. Some of the finest traditional musicians and singers from Kilkenny will feature, including Múinteoir Nell, who will be starting with Rang a hAon on Monday. Join us to speak as much Gaeilge or as little as you can manage and for a good night’s ceol agus craic.

    Fáilte roimh Aisling san oifig

Fearaimid fáilte mhor roimh Aisling Ní Dhomhnaill mar rúnaí nua na scoile. Is máthair Pheadar atá linn i Rang a 4 agus Hanna agus Aoibhe atá mar iar-scoláirí anois í Aisling agus tá sí tosaithe linn ó thus mí Bealtaine. Guímid gach rath uirthi sa jab agus tá sí ag socrú isteach go breá linn go dtí seo. Buíochas mhór do Nicola a thug an-chabhair dúinn don dá mhí roimhe sin.

We warmly welcome Aisling Ní Dhomhnaill as our new school secretary. Aisling is Mom to Peadar in Rang a 4 and to past pupils Hanna and Aoibhe. She began her new position at the start of May and is settling in very well with us. We wish her all the best in the future. We also again thank Nicola for helping us out so much by covering this position for the previous two months.

Buíochas le Múinteoir Michaela agus scoláirí Mary I

Táimid fíor-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Michaela a raibh Rang a hAon aici don bhliain. Tá Múinteoir Nell ag filleadh ar an rang ar an Luan. Bhí an-bhliain ag na páistí go dtí seo, a bhuíochas le gach a rinne Múinteoir Michaela leo. Beidh roinnt oibre eile ar siúl ag Múinteoir Michaela linn go deireadh na bliana.

Táimid buíoch chomh maith do Aoife agus Niamh as ucht an obair iontach a rinne siad le na ranganna sóisearacha inár scoilne. Is oibrithe tionscnaimh tríd an Chlár um Chomhlánaithe Scoile a bhí iontu. Tá súil againn go mbeidh samhradh den scoth acu beirt.

We are very thankful to Múinteoir Michaela for the wonderful work she has done with Rang a hAon since September. Múinteoir Nell returns to take the class on Monday. Múinteoir Michaela will continue to work with us in other roles between now and the end of the school year.

We also extend our thanks to Aoife and Niamh who finished up with us as Project Workers through the School Completion Programme. They have been doing great work in our junior classes since Christmas and we wish them both the best in their summer adventures abroad. We’re only a small bit jealous!

    Bille Scoile

Táimid fíor-bhuíoch daoibh ar fad a d’íoc aon chuid den mbille scoile go dtí seo. Déanfaimid tarrac amháin eile ar an Aoine an 3 Meitheamh le haghaidh duais aisíoc bhille amháin iomlán do gach éinne atá íoctha suas chun dáta.

We are hugely thankful to you all for your payments in relation to the school bill. We will have one more draw for a prize of a refund of one full school bill for those paid up fully. This will take place on Friday June 3rd.

    Éide scoile an tsamhraidh

Leis an aimsire deas tagtha faoi dheireadh, is éide scoile an tsamhraidh a chaithfimid as seo amach. Caitheann na páistí an t-léine buí, brístí ghearra dubha nó dúghorma gan marc  (seachas cinn na Gaelscoile atá ag roinnt páistí) agus geansaí chulaith reatha na scoile. Ná dearmad a sheiceáil go bhfuil ainm do pháiste go soiléir ar gach píosa éadaigh atá ag do pháiste agus a chur i gcuimhne dóibh gur chóir dóíbh gach rud a thabhairt abhaile leo gach lá.

Bí cinnte de chomh maith go bhfuil lóis gréinne ar gach páiste gach lá agus iad ag teacht ar scoil. Ní chóir go mbeadh tuismitheoirí ag iarraidh ar bhaill foirne scoile seo a dhéanamh.

With the arrival of the lovely summer weather, we now allow children to wear our summer uniform every day. This consists of the school’s yellow polo t-shirt, plain black or navy shorts (with the exception of Gaelscoil shorts which some children have) and the school’s tracksuit top. Please ensure all your children’s items of clothing are clearly marked with their names(some may have faded since September!). On another note, please ensure that you apply sunscreen to your child BEFORE they come to school in the morning. It is not fair to expect staff members to do so during the school day.

    Seachtain Rothaíochta

Is an tseachtain seo chugainn Seachtain Rothaíochta Náisiúnta na hÉireann. Tá imeachtaí iontacha ar siúl sa chathair agus sa chontae agus tá na sonruithe ar fad anseo. Mar chuid de seo, ba bhreá linn ár raiceanna rothair a fheiscint lán go barra le rothair agus scútair gach lá an tseachtain seo chugainn.

Next week is National Bike Week and there are lots of activities on in the city and county to encourage and promote this great way of getting around every day. As part of the week’s activities, we would love to see our bike and scooter racks full to the brim next week. Ar do rothar nó do scútar leat!

    Céad Chomaoineach

Beidh ár searmannais chéad chomaoineach ar siúl I Séipéal Naomh Fhiachra ar an Satharn seo chugainn, an 21 Bealtaine ag 10.30 am. Táimid fíor-bhuíoch do Mhúinteoirí Michelle, Liselott, Sylvia, Dearbhail agus Fiona don obair iontach ata déanta acu agus dos na tuismitheoiri atá bainte leis an obair chomh maith. Tá tuismitheoirí Rang a hAon ag eagrú an ‘Tae Bán’ sa scoil I ndiaidh an searmannas agus táimid ag súil go mor leis an ócáid sin a bheith ar siúl arís I bpearsan sa scoil.

Our first communion ceremony takes place in St. Fiachra’s Church next Saturday, May 21st at 10.30 am. We are hugely thankful to the múinteoirí Rang a 2 for their trojan work in preparing the children for this sacrament and of course to Fr. Roderick and Michelle in the parish office for all the time that goes into this special day. We are also delighted that our Rang a hAon parents are returning to organising the wonderful ‘Tae Bán’ occasion in the school halla after the ceremony to give the families of all the children a chance to celebrate informally together.
