    Nuachtlitir na Bealtaine

Tá an samhradh tagtha agus tá áthas orainn an ghrian a fheiscint ag taitneamh formhór na laethanta. Tá cead ag na páistí anois éide scoile an tsamhraidh a chaitheamh-sin bríste ghearr dubh nó dubhghorm le t-léine na scoile agus geansaí an chulaith reatha nuair go mbíonn sé ag teastáil. Seachnóimid brístí gearra le marcanna bhranda spoirt le bhur dtoil. Ar bhonn sábháltachta, ná dearmad lóis ghréine a bheith á chaitheamh ag na páistí gach lá mar go mbeidh an-chuid imeachtaí faoin aeir ar siúl againn sa sé seachtain atá fágtha. De bharr gur in Éireann atáimid, bíodh cóta éadrom báistí i mála do pháiste chomh maith.

We are all delighted to see the sun shining today and most days at the moment, although Tuesday proved to us that we still have Irish summer weather. Children are, however, allowed to wear the school’s summer uniform between now and the end of the school year. This consists of a plain black or navy shorts, the school’s yellow polo style t-shirt and the school tracksuit top when needed. In terms of your child’s safety, please ensure they wear sun cream every day as we will be doing a lot of outdoor activities in the coming weeks. Because of the unpredictable weather, please also ensure your child has a light raincoat in their bag for when the need arises. Hopefully we’ll have plenty fun and sunshine over the next six weeks.

We have also decided in recent days on a new tracksuit design for the next school year. The quarter zip, sports type tracksuit, which is also fleece-lined has been well-received by children and parents who have viewed it. New track bottoms which are ‘skinnny’ in their design will also be available although options for slightly more forgiving styles will also be available as will the choice to purchase generic black track bottoms of your choice (Without branding). The tracksuits will again be available from Paul’s and Duggan’s stores on High Street. Please be assured also that all existing tracksuits can be worn in the coming years while we phase in the new tracksuits. There is NO CHANGE to the formal school uniform at this time, although girls are always reminded that they can wear grey trousers as part of their uniform.

    Múinteoir Áine ag imeacht uainn

Tá an-bhrón orainn a chur in iúil daoibh go bhfuil ceann des na múinteoirí is sinsirí inár scoilne ag imeacht uainn ar scor luath an tseachtain seo chugainn. Tháinig Múinteoir Áine Ní Mháirtín chun na scoile sa bhliain 1991, taréis di tréimhsí a chaitheamh san Astráil agus i bPort Láirge. Cáilíodh í ó Choláiste Mhuire gan Smál, Luimneach, agus is Gaeilgeoir ó dhúchais í ó Rinn Chonaill i gceartlár Ghaeltacht Chorca Dhuibhne. Thug sí a Gaoluinn iontach agus a cineáltacht mar mhúinteoir go fial le páistí na scoile sa triocha bliain atá imithe ón am sin. Is comhgleacaithe den scoth í Áine atá mar chuid d’fhoireann bainistíochta na scoile ó 2003 ar aghaidh. Mothóimid go mór uainn Áine ach tá áthas an domhain orainn go bhfuil sláinte maith aici agus táimid ag súil go mór len í a fheiscint go minic timpeall na scoile. Táimid ag súil go mbeidh raidhse ama aici anois chun tabhairt faoin bhfeirmeoireacht i mBaile an Phléibeartaigh, lasmuigh do Bhaile Mhic Andáin, lena grá geal Richie agus go mbeidh níos mó ama aici le caitheamh le Bláthnaid, Dara, Éabha agus ar ndóigh ár mbuachaill Rang a Sé, Deiric. Guímid gach rath, sonas agus sláinte ar Áine agus beidh an mana nua sin a thug Áine dúinn le roinnt bliana anuas mar chroílár ár bpolasaí scoile- ‘Is Gaelscoil sinn, táimid difriúil.’ Beidh ócáid againn chun saol múinteoireachta agus cairdeas Áine a cheiliúradh roimh deireadh na scoil-bliana.

We are very sorry to inform you of the early retirement in the coming weeks of one of our most senior teachers in Múinteoir Áine. Múinteoir Áine Ní Mháirtín joined our staff in 1991, having graduated from Mary Immaculate College in Limerick and having spent time teaching and travelling in Australia and Waterford. She brought with her her magical, fluent and humorous Gaoluinn as a native speaker from the townland of Rinn Chonaill in the parish of Cill Maoilchéadair in the heart of the West Kerry Gaeltacht. She also brought legendary basketball skills with her too! Along with her wonderful language skills she brought a kindness and caring approach to all the children under her care and, in particular, was the driver behind the establishment of the superb learning support system of which our school is so proud, proving her commitment to the most vulnerable children in our school at all times. Áine has been a wonderful colleague, and an invaluable part of the school’s management team since 2003. Her sound counsel was valued at all times.

We are delighted that Áine is retiring without any concerns about her health and we look forward to her being a regular and welcome cuairteoir to the school. In particular, we value her input as co-ordinator of all things artistic in our school in recent years through the Creative Schools Project and look forward to her attending some of the events which will result from this project in the coming years. That said, we really hope that Áine will enjoy the time for extra farm work with her grá geal Richie in Pleberstown, outside Thomastown, and lots of more time with our past pupils Bláthnaid, Dara, Éabha and of course our current Rang a Sé star, Deiric. She might also make the odd trip to Baile na nGall!

We will have an occasion before the end of the school year to properly mark Áine’s retirement and hopefully include as many parents, staff and past pupils as we can. In the meantime, Áine’s gem of wisdom from recent years will inspire us when she said ‘We are a Gaelscoil and we are different!’

    Rith Beo
Tá obair iontach ar siúl laistigh agus lasmuigh den scoil ag réitiú do Rith Beo 2021. Is ar an deireadh seachtain an 29 agus 30 Bealtaine a bheidh an rith agus siúl 3k, 5k nó 10k ar siúl agus is go fíorúil go mbeidh sé ar siúl arís i mbliana. Beidh na páistí ag déanamh an rith 3k ar scoil ach beimid ag súil go mbeidh siad á dhéanamh sa bhaile chomh maith ar an Satharn agus Domhnach sin. Táimid an-bhuíoch don gcoiste iontach tuismitheoirí agus múinteoirí ata ag déanamh an eagrúcháin ar fad. Comaoineach agus Cóineartú

Tá brón orainn a chur in iúil go bhfuil litir faighte againn ón Easpag Dermot Nulty ag tabhairt treoir dúinn gan aon searmanas Céad Chomaoineach nó Cóineartú a eagrú roimh laethanta saoire an tsamhraidh. Tá fhios againn go bhfuil seo an-díomách do pháistí Rang a 6 go háirithe. Beidh na searmanais ar siúl sa bhfómhar agus beimid ag comhoibriú le Paróiste Naomh Pádraig agus an tAthair Roderick ar na hócáidí seo. Táimid thar a bheith buíoch do Mhúinteoirí Sylia, Michelle agus Liselott don obair ar an gcúrsa chéad chomaoineach agus do Mhúinteoirí Niall, Cormac, Ashleigh, Neasa agus Maria don obair ar fad ar an gcóineartú. Beidh an obair ar fad atá déanta mar lárchuid den réitiúchán, pé uair go dtárlaíonn na searmanais.

We are very disappointed, but not surprised, to receive a letter from Bishop Dermot Nulty informing us that NO confirmation or first communion ceremonies are to be organised before the Summer holidays. This is disappointing for all the children in Rang a 2 agus 5 but particularly so for páistí Rang a 6. It is most likely that the ceremonies will take place in the Autumn and we will cooperate fully with St. Patrick’s parish and Fr. Roderick on the arrangements when the time arrives.

We extend our huge thanks to Múinteoirí Michelle, Liselott and Sylvia in the communion classes and to Múinteoirí Niall, Cormac, Ashleigh, Neasa agus Maria for all their work with the confirmation classes. All of the preparations they have made will be central to celebrating the sacraments when the time arises. For Rang a 6 parents, we would ask you to keep your contact details up to date on Aladdin in case the parish needs to contact you through our system in the Autumn.

    Trácht agus Páirceáil
Míle buíochas de bhur gcomhoibriú taréis an nóta a sheolamar amach i rith na seachtaine. Tá feabhas tagtha agus is ar mhaithe ár scoil-phobail, muintir Scoil na Toirbhirte béal dorais agus d’ár gcomharsain ar bhóthar an Ráth Uachtaraigh atá sé seo ar fad.

Thank you very much for your cooperation with the observance of rules around parking and traffic around the school, following the note we sent earlier in the week. Observing the rules around legal parking and the necessary safeguards around COVID is in the best interests of all in our school community, our neighbours in the Presentation school next door and of course our neighbours on the Outrath Road. To repeat also, children walking, cycling and scooting as far as they can to school helps their physical and mental health and also hugely helps our environment.
