Nuachtlitir na Cásca 2012.

Laethanta Saoire
Tosaíonn laethanta saoire na Cásca an Aoine seo le leath lá ag teacht le traidisiún na scoile. Críochnóidh an scoil ar 12 meánlae. Beimíd ar ais ar scoil ar an Luan an 16ú Aibreán agus guímid Cáisc shona agus beannaithe ar gach éinne.
The Easter holidays begin this Friday with school finishing at midday, in-keeping with the school’s traditions. We will return on Monday 16th April and we wish you all a happy and holy holiday-with a little bit of chocolate thrown in as well!
Rith leis an Máistir
Tá Máistir Seán ag rith Marathon Boston i gceann cúpla seachtain ar mhaithe leis an charthanacht ‘Cumann Ailse na hÉireann’. Mar chuid den iarracht seo, beidh sé ag rith le gach rang ar an Déardaoin agus an Aoine. Rithfidh gach duine sna naíonáin ar feadh cúig nóimead ag dul suas go dtí timpeall cúig nóimead déag le Rang a Sé. Is ar an Aoine go mbeidh Rang a 5 agus 6 ag rith. Iarraimid oraibh pé síntiús gur féidir libh a chur isteach le na paistí le bhur dtoil.
Máistir Seán is running the Boston marathon in aid of the Irish Cancer Society in a few weeks time. As part of his fundraising efforts he will run with each class up to Rang a 4 this Thursday and with 5th and 6th on Friday morning. Running times will vary from 5 minutes with Junior Infants up to 15 minutes with Rang a Sé. Children are welcome to wear running shorts and runners with their school t-shirts on the day. Any contribution you would like to make would be very welcome for this worthy cause.
Comhbhrón do Eveline/Sympathy to Eveline
Comhbhrón ó chroí go Múinteoir Eveline Mhic Aonghusa atá ag obair linn le fada agus go deonach le blian anuas. Cailleadh a ghar-mhac óg Kaiden, mac le Gary agus Colette agus deartháir Dylan ag an deireadh seachtain. Tá Eveline agus a clann thar a bheith buíoch do pháistí na scoile dá gcuid paidreacha ar fad le cúpla mí anuas. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam fíor-óg.
We send our sincere sympathies to our great and generous colleague Eveline Hennessy who has worked with us in recent years, totally voluntarily for the past year. Eveline’s baby grandson Kaiden lost his fight for life at the weekend. We extend our sympathy to Eveline, her husband John, Kaiden’s parents Gary and Colette and his brother Dylan. Eveline and her family want to thank all of our pupils for their prayers in recent months.
Clárúcháin na Scoile/Registration for next year
Bhí níos mó iarrataisí ná riamh i mbliana againn d’áiteanna sa scoil agus sheolamar amach na litreacha ag ofráil áiteanna an tseachtain seo chaite. Má tá tú ag glacadh le háit nó ag diúltiú, bí cinnte go bhfuil do fhreagra againn san oifig an tseachtain seo. Tá liosta fada feithimh againn agus bheimís buíoch as an t-eolas sin. Chomh maith le sin, bí cinnte go bhfuil deartháireacha agus deirfiúracha óga a bheidh ag teacht anseo cláraithe leis an oifig do na blianta atá romhainn le bhúr dtoil.
We had a record number of applications for our Junior Infant classes for the coming school year and we sent out letters of offers of places last week. We would appreciate that all offers would be accepted this week and in particular that any decisions to defer a place would be notified to us as soon as possible. We have a long waiting list and we would appreciate this information. As well as this, please note that all brothers and sisters seeking places in future years need to have a registration form completed in the office to help make the process easier.
Síneadh leis an scoil/Extension to end prefabs?
Bhí áthas orainn le déanaí go rabhamar ainmnithe ar liosta an Aire Oideachais do scoileanna atá chun airgead a fháil chun fáil réidh le seomraí réamhdhéanta. Tá súil againn go gceadóidh an Roinn dúinn síneadh ceart a thógaint leis an scoil chun na seomraí ar fad atá uainne a bheith againn. Coimeádfaimid ar an eolas sibh faoin dul chun cinn le seo.
We were delighted to be included on a list from the Minister for Education recently of schools receiving money to get rid of pre-fab classrooms. We have submitted our list of needs and we hope the Department will now allow us to build a proper extension to the school which will meet all our needs for the future. We will keep you informed of future developments.
Bille Scoile
Mar a dúramar cheana, tá a fhios maith againn go bhfuil roinnt clanna inár scoilne faoi bhrú airgid i mbliana agus tá sé tábhactach go bhfuil a fhios againn sa scoil má tá deacrachtaí ar leith ann. Idir an dá linn, táimid ag iarraidh ort arís do dhícheall a dhéanamh bille scoile do pháiste a íoc. Íocann an bille as bun-rudaí cosuil le hárachas do pháiste, costaisí fotacóipeála agus don scéim iontach cíosach leabhair atá againn, rud a shábhálann roinnt mhaith airgid ar an-chuid tuismitheoirí. Chomh maith le sin, íocann sé i mbliana as na ranganna breise cheoil, rinnce hip-hop, gleacaíochta agus na healáiona chomhraic a bhain na páistí an méid sin taitneamh as chomh maith le na ranganna snámha sa Watershed. Íoc pe méid gur féidir leat le do thoil san oifig. Beimid buíoch do gach iarracht, beag nó mór.
As we mentioned previously, we are very aware that families in our school are suffering financial problems in the current climate. It is very important that we are informed of this in absolute confidence so that we can take this into account. Please let the office and the Principal know as soon as difficulties arise. We would continue to urge you to make whatever contribution you can to the Bille Scoile. This contribution not only pays for basics like your child’s insurance and the costs of photocopying, art materials etc. but also pays for the additional music, hip-hop, gymnastics and martial arts courses which the children got so much benefit from this year, along with the fantastic swimming classes which we are provided with in the Watershed. Please make every effort to contribute what you can and we will appreciate every effort you make.
Éide Caillte/Lost Property
Tá an t-uafás éadaí ar strae i láthair na huaire. Iarraimid ort gach píosa éide scoile a sheiceáil chun a chinntiú nach bhfuil éadaí páistí eile tógtha acu tré thimpiste. Iarraimid oraibh chomh maith a chinntiu go bhfuil gach píosa éide marcáilte go soiléir ionas nach gcaillfear é.
A large number of items of school clothing are on the missing list at present and we would urge you to check all school clothes to ensure your child has not taken items belonging to others home by mistake. Please return any items to the office. We also ask you to check that all school clothes are clearly marked with your child’s name so that they are easily identified if lost.
Ceolchoirm na Scoile/School Concert
Bhí ceolchoirm den scoth againn in amharclann an Watergate ar an gcéad lá Márta. Míle mile buiochas dona múinteoirí as an obair iontach a dheineadar chun na páistí a réitiú, maraon le Clár Kilkenny, Lisa agus Evelyn White as ucht an chabhair a thugadar. Táimid an-bhuíoch do Choiste na dTuismitheoirí don gcabhair iontach a thugadar ar an oíche agus roimh-ré agus d’fhoireann an Watergate a thug cabhair don scoth dúinn. Dár ndóigh, táimid an bhuíoch díbhse mar thuismitheoirí as bhúr gcabhair agus bhúr dtacaíocht a chabhraigh linn beagnach trí mhíle euro a bhailiú ar mhaithe le clár cheoil na scoile ar an oíche agus an lá sa scoil. Ár leithscéal díbh ar fad ná bhfuair ticéad san amharclann ar an oíche, agus beidh ar a laghad dhá oíche againn an chéad uair eile.
We had an absolutely fantastic school variety concert in the Watergate Theatre on March the 1st. We are hugely thankful to the teachers and Cúntóirí for all their help in preparing the children for the stage, as well as to Clár Kilkenny, Lisa and Evelyn White and Sinéad Fitzpatrick for their extra help. We are also extremely grateful to our parent’s association for their help beforehand and on the night as well as the staff of the Watergate Theatre who did everything they could to make the night go smoothly. Most importantly, we thank you as parents for your support and co-operation which helped us to raise over €3,000 to fund the school’s expanding music programme. We apologise to all who were unable to get tickets for the theatre and we are already planning for at least two nights on the next occasion.
Úirlisí Cheoil ag teastáil/ Musical Instruments wanted
Táimíd ag lorg aon úirlisí cheoil atá agat sa bhaile agus nach bhfuil in úsáid. Ach go háirithe, ba mhaith linn úirlisí do cheol traidisiúnta, fidil, boscaí cheoil cnaipí nó piano, fliúit, banjo nó maindilín agus bodhráin a fháil. Bheimís sásta iad a thógaint ar iasacht nó mar bhrontannaisí.
We would love to have your help in building up a bank of musical instruments in our school. In particular, we are looking for traditional music instruments including fiddles, piano or button accordions, concertinas, flutes, banjos or mandolins or bodhráns. We would be delighted to take these instruments on loan or as gifts to the school
Buaiteoirí na Féile/Féile winners
Comhgáirdeachas do chailíni na scoile a bhí páirteach i gcraobh peile an chontae mar chuid den gcomórtas Féile na nGael. Four of the girls, Neasa, Ciara, Aoibhe and Saoirse were members of the winning Kilkenny City team which won the final while Bláthnaid of the same class was on the defeated Thomastown team. Well done to all the girls and best of luck to the city girls who will now take part in the National finals in Co. Laois in June.

Coiste Scoil Ghníomhaíochta/Active Schools Committee
Bhí cúpla cruinniu ag an gcoiste don bhrat scoil ghníomhaíochta. Ta árd mholadh ag dul do na páistí go léir ar an gcoiste seo mar go bhfuil said chomh lán de smaointe is gníomh!!
Smaoineamh amháin atá againn ná “Siúl ar scoil Dé Máirt”. Ag tosnú Dé Máirt 17ú Aibreán, táimíd ag súil go dtiocfaidh gach duine ar scoil ar rothar nó ag siúl. Má bhionn conaí orthu i bhfad ón scoil is féidir leo siúl on Watershed nó Supervalu nó áit éigin mar sin.  Tá coiste na dtuismitheoirí lán taobh thiar de seo is tá said sásta bus siúil a eagrú má bhíonn suim ann.

This is an exciting new school committee which aims to have Gaelscoil Osraí named as Kilkenny’s first recognised ‘Active School’. The committee has representatives from every class and a number of parents assisting Múinteoir Michelle. The members deserve great praise for their great energy and ideas so far. Their first initiative is to start a ‘Walk to school on Tuesday’ campaign. This will begin on Tuesday April 17th when they hope everybody will walk or cycle to school. Even those living far from school can join in by walking from places like the Watershed or Supervalu. Our parent’s committee are fully supporting this move and are happy to organise ‘walking buses’ if there is a good reaction to the first day.

Nuacht an Scoil Ghlas/ Green Schools News
Táimíd ar thóir ár dtriú mbrat ghlas i mbliana agus tá an choiste ag obair go dian le cúpla seachtain le Múinteoir Deirdre chun go mbeidh ár n-iontrál seolta isteach an tseachtain seo. Bhí cuairt againn ó Hans ó An Taisce an tseachtain seo chaite agus labhair sé le an-chuid ranganna faoin obair atá déánta acu ar chúrsaí chaomhnú uisce. Má tá suim ag aon tuismitheoirí a bheith páirteach san obair seo go dtí deireadh na bliana beidh fáilte romhaibh.

We are also currently chasing our third Green Flag with this award coming for the work we have done on the study and conservation of water in the school. The Green Schools committee have been working very hard with Múinteoir Deirdre on our application which will be submitted this week. One of the practical things we have done is the installation of water butts in recent weeks, which collect rainwater from our roof. This water will be used for watering our school garden and is being used by classes in art work and other areas. We had a great visit from Hans from An Taisce in which Hans gave talks and questioned classes on the work they have been doing. If any parent is interested in joining in the work for the next few months, they would be very welcome.
