    Nuachtlitir 4.10.21

    Mí déanta:
Tá an chéad mí sa scoil curtha fúinn agus foghlaim, spraoi agus sport ar siúl ag na páistí. Táimid an-bhuíoch dos na páistí, daoibhse mar thuismitheoirí agus ar ndóigh do mhúinteoirí agus foireann na scoile as ucht sár-thús leis an mbliain agus an pandéim COVID19 ag leanúint ar aghaidh. Tá ár ndícheall déanta againn le chéile gach éinne a choimeád slán, sábhálta. Tá na páistí ag fanacht scartha óna chéile mar ranganna, tá díghalráin agus ní na lámha ag leanúint ar aghaidh agus ta aerú ar ár seomraí agus an-chuid ama á chaitheamh ag foghlaim lasmuigh ag cabhrú go mór lenár n-iarachtaí. Tá súil againn go leanfaidh sibh ar aghaidh ag tacú leis an obair seo.

Ó thaobh amanna teacht agus imeacht ar scoil, tá súil againn go mbeimid in ann athrú go dtí aon am amháin ag 9.10 am agus 2.50 pm taréis briseadh na Samhna. Braithfidh sé seo ar na treoracha sláinte poiblí ag an am.

Chomh maith le sin, táimid ag tosú ar phlé faoi am níos luaithe oscailte agus dúnadh na scoile a bheith againn amach anseo. Tá an-chuid impleachtaí ag aon athrú a bheadh á dhéanamh againn agus beidh bhur dtuairimí mar thuismitheoirí lárnach sa phlé sin.

We have successfully finished our first month back at school with fantastic learning, play and fun going on in our school. We are hugely thankful to the páistí, to you as their parents and of course to our fantastic staff for all our efforts together to keep each other safe during what is hopefully the closing stages of the COVID19 pandemic. We know we have been lucky as a school, in comparison with others, but the care we are taking to keep children properly separated as classes, the continuous washing and sanitising of hands, the aeration of our classrooms and plenty of time learning and playing outside have all played their part. So, too, have your care to keep children at home when they have symptoms of concern. Hopefully we can all continue to work together on these issues.

In terms of our current staggering of our opening and closing times, we hope to be in a position to revisit this after the Hallowe’en break and to revert to our standard 9.10 and 2.50 times. This will of course, depend on the public health advice at that time.

As part of the discussions in recent weeks, the question has been raised as to whether we should consider an earlier opening and closing time for our school. We are happy to begin a process of consultation on this matter and will listen to the views of parents and staff, before the Board of Management will consider the issue. We will look at all the implications of any change, including their impact on traffic in the area, school bus services etc. We will issue a questionnaire to all interested groups in the coming weeks.

    Éide Scoile:
Tá áthas orainn na páistí a fheiscint ina éadaí scoile ar maidin. Tuigimid má tá fadhb ag éinne ag an am seo agus tabharfaimid cúpla lá daoibh an éide iomlán a bheith á chaitheamh. Iarraimid oraibh, áfach, cloí le na rialacha agus le na laethanta atá leagtha amach ag na múinteoirí don gculaith reatha.

We are delighted to see the children wearing their full uniform across so many classes today and in the coming days. We will give a few days grace this week but would hope that our full uniforms will be in use throughout the school, from Rang a hAon upwards in the coming days. Please do your best to follow the days laid out by your class teacher/s for the appropriate uniform and wearing of tracksuit on the two days allowed.

    Bille Scoile:
Táimid ag déanamh athbhreithniú mór ar ár scéim chíosach leabhair faoi láthair agus ag súil leis an mbille scoile nua a sheoladh go luath. Clúdaíonn an bille an scéim chíosach agus costaisí eile scoile. Táimid ag súil go mbeidh an leagan amach níos soiléire agus go bhfeicfidh sibh mar thuismitheoirí go bhfuil luach maith ar an méid a chaitheann sibh.

Tabhair faoi ndeara chomh maith go dtuigimid go maith, mar scoil, an brú airgid a mbíonn ar chlanna ó am go ham, ar chúinsí difriúla. Cur scéal chiúin agus discréideach go dtí do Mhúinteoir ranga nó don Mháistir, áit go gcoimeádfaí an t-eolas sin go hiomlán rúnda. Ná déan dearmad chomh maith gur polasaí na Gaelscoile í nach gcailleann aon páiste amach ar aon deis foghlama nó imeachtaí scoile, ceal airgead sa bhaile.

We are currently doing a major review of our schoolbook rental scheme and hope to issue you with our new bille scoile, which covers the rental scheme and a range of other school costs, in the coming weeks. We hope to make the items for payment very clear on our bill and that you will see the value for money involved.

Please be aware also that we are always very concerned that children and families occasionally have financial pressures, for a variety of different reasons. Please have a quiet word with your child’s Múinteoir or with Máistir Seán. This will be treated with absolute confidentiality. Please rest assured that it is the policy of our school that NO child loses out on learning or any other school activity because of financial pressures at home.

    Céad Chomaoineach:
Bhí dhá shearmannas álainn Chéad Chomaoineach againn ar an Satharn i Séipéal Naomh Fhiachra. Táimid fíor-bhuíoch don Athair Roderick as ucht an aifreann breá Ghaeilge arís agus do Doreen sa séipéal don gcabhair ar fad. Deineann an dá rúnaí, Eibhlín inár n-oifig féin agus Michelle in oifig an pharóiste, an t-uafás chun cabhrú chomh maith. Bhí clann Sabhaois, Jim, Gráinne, Róisín, Méabh agus an beirt chomaoineoir-Liam agus Ciarán, iontach ag seinnt cheoil draíochtúil don dá aifreann. Dár ndóigh, tá buíochas iomlán le gabháil le Múinteoirí Brian agus Máire Ruth atá le na ranganna i mbliana agus go Múinteoirí Michelle, Liselott agus Sylvia don obair réitiúcháin a rinneadar anuraidh le na páistí.

Bhí tuismitheoirí Rang a 2 iontach chomh maith ag coimeád ár dtraidisíun don dtae bán beo, cé go raibh sé i slí difriúil arís i mbliana. Chuir na málaí pearsanta a bhfuair na bpáistí san ‘tiomáint thart’ ag an scoil go mór leis an ócáid agus táimid an-bhuíoch do na tuismitheoirí ar fad a d’eagraigh, go háirithe an dá Éimear, Múinteoir Proinnsiasa, Miriam agus Bríd a thug a gcuid ama ar an lá.

    Cóineartú:
Bhí an searmanas Chóineartú le déanaí i bPáirc Uí Nualláin go hiontach ar fad. Míle buíochas don Easpag Denis Nulty a chinntigh gur imigh an ócáid seo ar aghaidh le scoileanna na cathrach ar fad bainte leis. Míle buíochas do Mhúinteoirí Neasa, Maria, Cormac, Niall agus Ashleigh a réitigh na páistí i mbliana agus anuraidh.

The novel confirmation ceremony in Nowlan Park recently was a great success, allowing last year’s and this year’s Ranganna a 6 to receive this most important sacrament. We thank Bishop Nulty, Fr. Roderick and Fr. Richard and all their colleagues for what was a truly unique and uplifting occasion for all of the city schools. We look forward to being back to a searmanas lán-Ghaeilge in 2023 but give thanks for a ceremony that will live long in the memory.

    Snámh

Tá Rang a 2 ag críochnú a chuid seisiúin snámha an tseachtain seo. Beidh Rang a 3 ag tosú ar an gCéadaoin an 13 Deireadh Fomhair go dtí an 17 Samhain. Táimid an-bhuíoch d’fhoireann an Watershed do na ranganna seo agus do Mhúinteoir Siobhán as an obair eagrúcháin ar fad ar an ngné tábhachtach seo d’fhoghlaim ár bpáistí.

Rang a 2 are just finishing their swimming sessions this week and Rang a 3 will begin their block on Wednesday the 13th October until Wednesday 17th November. We really appreciate the wonderful work of the staff of the Watershed Sports facility and of course the work of Múinteoir Siobhán in organising this wonderful learning opportunity for our students.

Sábháltacht sa chlós agus páirceáil chúramach:
Impímid ar gach éinne a thiomáineann isteach i gclós na scoile tiomáint go h-an mhall agus go cúramach. Ná dearmad go mbíonn páistí na scoile agus uaireanta, páistí níos óige fiú, ag siúl agus ag rith timpeall, go háirithe ar maidin is tráthnóna. Níor chóir go mbeadh aon ghluaisteán ag dul thar luas 5 km san uair riamh inár gclós.

Caithfimid iarraidh oraibh uair amháin eile gan páirceáil ar chosáin nó in aice leis an slí isteach nó amach go aon eastát timpeall na scoile. Tá cearta teacht agus imeacht ag gach duine atá ina gcónaí timpeall na háite. Chomh maith le sin, cuireann páirceáil ar chosáin isteach ar dhaoine i gcathaoireacha rothair agus le páistí i mbugaithe, rud ata dainséarach agus mídhleathach.

We appeal to anybody who drives in our school yard to please do so extremely slowly and safely. Please remember that our children and occasionally smaller brothers and sisters can be walking or running around our yard and carpark. No car should EVER be travelling at any more that 5 km per hour in our school grounds. We also appeal to you to use the left hand side of our drop-off zone and to leave once your child has left the car. Alternatively, you can park on the right hand side, beyond the staff overflow spaces, which should never be used or obstructed. Of course, parking off-site and encouraging your child to walk, scoot or cycle as far as possible cuts down on congestion and air pollution and keeps us all safer and healthier.

We must one again appeal to EVERY parent, or others collecting or dropping off, to NEVER park on a footpath or at the entrance to any of the estates around our school. Our neighbours are entitled to free access and exit from their neighbourhoods. More importantly, parking on footpaths forces wheelchair users and parents with buggies out on to the street and is dangerous and illegal. We would prefer not to have to involve the Garda Síochána in this matter but will do so if necessary.

    Raiceanna Rothair:

Bhí áthas an domhain orainn an teachtain seo chaite nuair a tháinig ár raiceanna rothair agus scútair nua ó eagraíocht na Scoileanna Ghlasa. Tá slí páirceála againn anois do 80 rothar agus 36 scútair. Chiallódh sin go mbeadh 26% d’ár bpáistí ag teacht ar scoil i slí sláintiúil gach lá dá mbeidís lán agus dar ndóigh go leor páistí ag siúl chomh maith. Lean oraibh ag spreagadh bhur bpáistí chun an rud ceart dóibh féin agus don dtimpeallacht a dhéanamh.

We were thrilled to receive our new bike and scooter racks delivered last week, as a reward for all the cycling and scooting that we have developed in our school. We now have 80 bike parking and 36 scooter parking spaces and when we fill them, a total of 26% of children will be coming to school in a healthy and sustainable way, as well of course as the dozens of children who walk to school. Let’s start this Friday with a big effort to ‘Líon na Raiceanna’ ‘Fill those racks’!

    Foireann Nua:

Fáiltímid go mór le cúpla duine nua agus roinnt sean-chairde ar fhoireann na Gaelscoile i mbliana. Tá Méabh Ní Chionnaith ag obair linn mar chúntóir riachtainisí breise don bhliain. Bhí baint ar leith ag clann Méabh leis an nGaeilge sa chathair, lena Mam, Cáit mar an chéad Múinteoir i bhfeighil ar Choláiste Pobail Osraí. Fáiltimid chomh maith le Mamaí na scoile (agus bean a rith a maratón is tapúla fós ar na Domhnach i mBéal Feirste!), Caoimhe Ní Fhoghlú atá ag roinnt poist le Múinteoir Deirdre i rang a haon. Tá Múinteoir Nell Ní Chróinín ar ais linn arís taréis tamaill i gCeatharlach. Tá Nell ag súil le dea-scéal a céad leanbh aon lá anois agus tá Múinteoir Michaela ag feidhmiú ina háit don dtréimhse sin. Tá Múinteoir Jessica ar ais linn chomh maith san tacaíocht foghlama do chuid mhaith den bhliain ag obair le Múinteoir Maria T.

We welcome some new members of staff and welcome back some old friends this year. We welcome Méabh, whose Mom Cáit was the founding Múinteoir i bhfeighil in Coláiste Pobail Osraí as a job sharing SNA, while a Mom in our school, Múinteoir Caoimhe will teach in a job share capacity with Múinteoir Deirdre in Rang a hAon. Múinteoir Nell returns to us after a number of years teaching in Carlow, although she is currently waiting patiently on the arrival of her céad páiste. Múinteoir Michaela is taking her Rang a hAon class for her period of absence. We also welcome Múinteoir Jessica back where she will be working in Learning Support with Múinteoir Maria T for the majority of the year.

Finally, we wish all the best to those who have left us recently. Múinteoir Ruth is busy settling into her new life as Príomhoide Gaelscoil Eoghain Uí Thuairisc in Carlow, while Múinteoir Áine is trying out a wonderful new adventure in Baile na nGall, back in her native West Kerry. We also thank Múinteoirí Síle agus Aisling for their service to our school in recent years and wish them well back in their base schools.

Coláiste Pobail Osraí-30 Bliain ag Fás

Guímid comhgáirdeachas ar fhoireann agus scoil-phobail Choláiste Pobail Osraí atá ag ceiliúradh triocha bliain de sár-oideachas lán-Ghaeilge i mbliana. D’éirigh le tuismitheoirí na Gaelscoile ag an am a bhí ag lorg oideachas iar-bhunscoile lán-Ghaelach dá gcuid páistí an aonad agus níos déanaí an scoil neamhspleách seo a bhaint amach agus d’oscail Coláiste Pobail Osraí i mí Meán Fomhair 1991. Tá an scoil imithe ó neart go neart ó shin, le 215 dalta sa scoil faoi láthair. D’éirigh thar barr le scoláirí na hArdteiste I mbliana, le triúir a bhfuair an t-uasmhéid go bhféadfaidis, ár niar-scoláire Éabha de Ghailí ina measc. Chomh maith le sin, d’éirigh thar barr le na scoláirí ar fad a spriocanna a bhaint amach, bíodh an 300 poínte a rabhadar a rabhadar ag súil leis, printíseachtaí a bhaint amach nó scoláireachtaí a aimsiú.

Tá na daltaí s’againne i Rang a 6 ag déanamh machnamh faoi cá rachaidís an bhliain seo chugainn. Chreid na bunaitheoirí d’ár scoilne agus don gColáiste gurb í an Ghaeloideachas an t-oideachas is fearr go bhféadfá a fháil. Creidimid sin go fóill. Iarraimid oraibh bhur bpáisti a spreagadh chun leanúint ar aghaidh go scoil dara-leibhéal atá taréis caighdeán iontach foghlama, cúram páistí agus forbairt shóisialta a chur ar fáil. Le scoil úrnua ag teacht in iarthar na cathrach laistigh de dhá bhliain, beidh na háiseanna fisiciúla scoile agus sár-áiseanna spoirt ag na daltaí a thosaíonn an bhliain seo chugainn do formhór a shaoil meánscoile. Beidh cruinniú ar-líne do thuismitheoirí agus daltaí ar siúl ar an Déardaoin an 14 Deireadh Fomhair 2021 ag 7.00 pm. Iarraimid oraibh ar fad féachaint isteach ar cad atá á chur ar fáil ag an scoil go do pháiste. Beidh an nasc sin ar www.osrai.ie go luath.

We extend our heartiest congratulations to the staff and school community of Coláiste Pobail Osraí, our sister-school, who celebrate their 30th anniversary this year. The founding parents of our school successfully campaigned to secure top-quality post-primary education for the first Rang a 6 who completed their time in our school. The setting up of the Aonad or unit, to be followed by an independent school in 2005, has seen the demand of young people for Irish language medium education , right through from naíonra to Leaving Certificate level, thrive in our city. The school opened its doors in September 1991 and a number of its past pupils are now members of staff, not just in the Coláiste, but also on our own staff, with many others having gone on to successful careers in every walk of life.

The high levels of achievement were displayed recently, when three students received the maximum points level of 625 points, including our own Éabha de Ghailí. Just as importantly, students at every level of academic ability were delighted with their results, with the vast majority securing the course, apprenticeship or job of their choice as a result.

Now that our children in Rang a 6 and indeed in Rang a 5 are considering their next education step, we urge you to encourage your child to consider continuing their education as Gaeilge. In our neighbouring counties it is common for over 90% of sixth class students to continue on to their local Gaelcholáiste, even when they have to travel long distances to do so.

You have the opportunity to see what the school offers when they host their online open evening on Thursday, October the 14th at 7.00 pm. We will be sending you out this link in the meantime. There will also be opportunities for you to arrange private viewings of the school in coming weeks. We also remind you that the Coláiste will soon be moving to a state of the art school, with superb sports facilities in the western part of Kilkenny city, meaning your child will spend the majority of their post-primary school lives in a superb educational setting, with the school continuing its tradition of academic excellence, along with its traditional fantastic pastoral care and excellent personal development ethos.

Bain triail as! Please give it really serious consideration.
