Sraitheanna Scoile

Ar deireadh, agus na míonna caite ag na cailíní is buachaillí idir Rang 4 agus 6 ag imirt camógaíochta agus iománaíochta ar maidin roimh am scoile, shroicheamar na cluichí ceannais. D’imir Uíbh Fháilí in aghaidh An Clár sa chluiche ceannais iománaíochta agus bhí an lá le hUíbh Fháilí ag an deireadh ach iomaíocht ghéar a raibh ann. An scór deiridh 6-7 in aghaidh 6-5.

B’fhéidir go raibh bearna níos mó idir na foirne sa chluiche ceannais camógaíochta ach iomaíocht fhíochmhar a raibh ann sa chluiche seo chomh maith. D’fhág na himreoirí gach rud ar an bpáirc le sár-thaispeántas scórála, cruachála blocála. Comhghairdeas leis an bhfoireann gorm a fuair an lámh in uachtar.

Jam Ucailéile

Ar an gceathrú lá déag de mhí Bealtaine, chuaigh Rang a sé is a cúig síos chun Amharclann an Watergate i gcomhair ceolchoirm ucailéile faoi stiúir Music Generation Bhí Scoil Naomh Eoin Dé ann chomh maith. Bhí spórt agus scléíp ag na páistí ag seinnt amhráin ar nós Shake It Off le Taylor Swift agus Budapest le George Ezra. Ár mile buíochas le Múinteoir Clár as a hiarrachtaí is a foighne linn ó thús na bliana.

Bhí taispeántas drumadóireachta le Jeremy ar siúl ag Rang a Ceathair sa halla freisin a bhain daonra na scoile an-taitneamh as.

Seachtain Rothaíochta

Bhí cosúlacht idir carrchlós na scoile agus Béising le linn Seachtain Rothaíochta i mí Bealtaine. Tháinig na céadta rothar isteach le linn na seachtaine. Thug ranganna a haon, a dó is a trí faoi cheachtanna rothaíochta ar an láthair scoile agus chuaigh ranganna a ceathair, cúig is a sé síos chuig carrchlós Halla na Cathrach ag tabhairt faoi chleasanna agus rásaí. Bhíomara scriosta ar deireadh ach bhaineamar taitneamh as a bheith amuigh faoin aer. Ár mile buíochas le Róisín, Catherine, Charlie, Jamie agus Múinteoir Proinnsiasa a chuir na himeachtaí in eagar.

Turas Scoile Rang 3

Ar an Déardaoin an 6ú de mhí an Mheithimh, chuaigh rang a trí suas chuig an t-Ionad Spóirt Uisce i mBaile Áth Cliath . D’fhág said ag a ceathrú chun a hocht. Tá a lán sleamhnán uisce ann agus tá linn snámha tonnta ann freisin. Bhí duine d’ár scríbhneoirí, Emma, ann agus an rud ab fhearr léi ann ná an linn snámha tonnta. Chuaigh said trasna an bhóthair chun an t-Ionad Spóirt Náisiúnta ina dhiaidh, áit a thug siad faoi ghníomhaíochtaí éagsúla. Bhí lá den scoth acu.

Gala Snámha

Bhí an-atmaisféar timpeall na scoile ar an gCéadaoin, an 19ú de mhí an Mheithimh, nuair a d’fhill foireann snámha na scoile ón Watershed agus sciathanna snámha na buachaillí, cailíní agus scoileanna-uilig coinnithe againn. Ar an lá, ghlacamar páirt in aghaidh Scoil Naomh Chainnigh, Scoil Naomh Pádraig, KSP, Scoil Naomh Eoin Dé agus Scoil na mBráithre Críostaí. Ár mbuíochas i gcónaí le Múinteoir Siobhán agus Maria a d’eagraigh na foirne scoile agus do na tuismitheoirí a thug tacaíocht ar an lá. Ní neart go cur le chéile.

Sacar Cúigear an Taobh

Bhí cúpla seachtain nach ndeánfar dearmad dóibh ariamh ag na foirne sacair sa scoil. I dtosach báire, chuaigh 2 foireann buachaillí agus 2 fhoireann cailíní go Baile Mhic Andáin chun páirt a ghlacadh i gCraobhacha an Chontae. Bhíomar an-iomaíoch le dhá fhoireann na buachaillí ag sroichint na cluichí réitithe. D’éirigh le foireann amháin cáiliú don bhabhta Deas-Laighean ach ard-mheas don taispeántas ag an bhfoireann eile ar an lá.Ó thaobh na cailíní de, shroich ceann de na foirne an cluiche ceannais ach, faraor, ní raibh an lá leo agus chaill siad in aghaidh foireann láidir ó Scoil Naomh Chainnigh.

Bhí an t-ádh linn nach raibh orainn taisteal ró-fhada don bhabhta Deas-Laighean. Bhí Evergreen mar óst ar an gcomórtas agus ina dhiaidh tús láidir, d’éirigh linn ár gcluichí ar fad a bhuacaint seachas ceann amháin. Bhí na Craobhacha Laighean romhainn. Níor éirigh le haon fhoireann scoile dul chomh fada ariamh. Turas fada chomh fada leis an Uaimh a raibh i gceist agus chasamar in aghaidh foirne ó Bhaile Átha Cliath, An Mhí agus Cill Mhantáin ar an lá. Fiú go rabhamar iomaíoch i ngach cluiche, bhí ard-chaighdeán i measc na foirne eile. Taithí maith a raibh ann.

Triail le Bolcán – Rang a Ceathair

Bhí an t-ádh le Múinteoir Ashleigh, Múinteoir Sam a bheith leo ar feadh tréimhse ar chleachtadh múinteoireachta. Ceann de na ceachtanna a dhearna sé leo ná ceann dírithe ar bholcáin. Rinne siad ceann mór i lár an tseomra. Ba mhaith leis an rang gach dea-ghuí a ghabháil le Muinteoir Sam agus é ag tosnú ar a shaol mar mhúinteoir bunscoile.

Slán le Múinteoir Ella, Fáilte ar ais le Múinteoir Niall

Rang a Trí

Bhí idir bhrón agus buíochas á mhothú i, Múinteoir Ella, ag deireadh mí Bealtaine. Chaith na páistí bliain iontach léi agus bhí siad an-sásta ina comhluadar. Chun aitheantas a thabhairt di, bhí cóisir sa rang agus d’fhéach siad ar scannán ar an mbord idirghníomach. Ina háit, sheas Múinteoir Niall isteach ina dhiaidh dó filleadh ó a bheith ag taisteal ar feadh bliana.

Turas Scoile Rang a Ceathair

I mbliana, bheartaigh Rang a Ceathair dul go Páirc Emerald dá turas scoile. D’fhág na páistí go mocha ar maidin agus turas dhá uair a chloig a raibh ann.

An t-Oifeagach Forbatha C.L.G

Teastaíonn ó na ranganna ar fad a raibh á chóitseáil ag Bill Cody i gcaitheamh na bliana a mbuíochas a ghabháil leis. Thug sé bunchloch scileanna san iomáint, camógaíocht, peil Ghaelach agus sa bhunghluaiseacht dóibh i slí deas séimh nár bhraith éinne faoi bhrú.

Crisilidí

Thug na páistí sna Múinteoir Méabh faoi thurgnamh ag iniúchadh crisilidí ag fás. Bhailigh siad cúpla bolb i soitheach, trédhearcach plaisteach le caipín air. Sa chupán, thar tréimhse beagáinín níos mó ná seachtain, d’fhás siad go 10 n-uaire an méid a raibh siad ag dul isteach sa chupán. Crochann siad ón gcaipín agus iad fásta ar an iomlán agus athróidh siad ina gcrisilidí. Agus na crisilidí cruaidh, bíonn na ceallaí agus orgáin féileacáin ag forbairt. Éireoidh na crisilidí níos dorchaí go dtí go dtagann na féileacáin as na crisilidí. Bíonn am ag teastáil ó na féileacáin chun téarnamh ina dhiaidh na hathruithe ar fad.

Bhain na naíonain an-taitneamh as an turas scoile, Lá Spóirt, agus an turas go dtí an leabharlann le déanaí.

Tá siad réidh do Rang 1!

Gaeltacht

Go gairid ina dhiaidh laethanta saoire na Cásca, chuaigh páistí Rang a Cúig agus a Sé chun na Rinne ar thuras Gaeltachta. Seal Rang a Sé a raibh ann ar dtús. D’fhág siad an scoil maidin Luain chun dul cois trá i dTrá Mhór i gcomhair ceacht surfála. Fiú go raibh sé deacair a dhóthain na cultacha uisce a chur orthu, bhain na páistí an-scléip as. Ar aghaidh leis na páistí chun Coláiste na Rinne. Beannaíodh iad agus tugadh chun na suanliosanna iad. Thar dhá lá, bhí an-craic ag na páistí ag tabhairt faoi ghníomhaíochtaí lasmuigh is laistigh, ar fad trí mheán na Gaeilge. D’fhág Rang a Sé ar an gCéadaoin agus shroich Rang a Cúig ceann scribe. Bhain Rang a Cúig an oiread sin spraoi as a gcuid ama ann go bhfuil sé i gceist ag cuid acu freastal ar Chúrsa Samhraidh i gColáiste na Rinne i gceann cúpla seachtain.

Tá na prátaí sa gháirdín ag fás, agus táimíd ag fás freisin.

Samhradh aoibhinn breá,
An ghriain go hard sa spéir,
Nach álainn bheith saor fén aer,
Bheith saor faoin aer.

Nuacht-Mheamrán Ghaelscoil Osraí 8ú Samhain 2013

Gaeilge

Cuirimid i gcuimhne duit gurb í an riail is tábhachtaí inár scoilne ná gur Gaeilge priomh-theanga na scoile. Is conradh idir do pháiste agus an scoil atá i gceist nuair a thosaíonn do phaiste sa scoil go labhródh sé/sí Gaeilge an tam ar fad sa scoil, i gclós na scoile agus ag aon imeachtaí scoile a mbíonn ar siúl cosúil le cluichí, snámh no turasanna scoile. Iarraimid oraibh bhúr dtacaíocht iomlán a thabhairt don scoil ar an ábhar seo. Iarraimid oraibh chomh maith mar thuismitheoirí gach aon iarracht a dhéanamh le Gaeilge a labhairt i dtimpeallacht na scoile agus in aon cumarsáid leis an scoil. Fáiltímid le botúin agus beimid sásta aon cupla focail nó cupla frása a labhairt leat i gcónaí.

Iarraimid ort chomh maith na páistí a spreagadh chun Gaeilge a labhairt lena cháirde lasmuigh d’am scoile. Comhgáirdeachas le Ruairí de Ghallaí a bhuaigh brontannas ón scoil toisc gur Gaeilge ar fad a labhair sé féin agus a chairde ag a bhreithlá sa bhaile. Chomh maith le sin cuirimid in iuil duit do pháiste a spreagadh chun féachaint ar TG4 nuair gur féidir. Tá réimse iontach cláracha ag an stáisiún ó chartúin do na páistí óga go dtí drámaí agus cláracha pap-cheoil do dhéagóirí agus ar ndóigh cláracha spoirt den scoth. Suigh síos le do pháiste agus bain taitneamh as an foghlaim le chéile.

We remind you that the central rule of our school is that our children speak Gaeilge at all times, other than in English class. By enrolling your child in our school you chose us because we are a Gaelscoil and we hope for your ongoing support in that central part of our ethos. The agreement to speak Irish at all times is a contract with the school from day one and we are delighted that the vast majority of children do this with great enthusiasm. To help with this also, we ask you to make every effort to use your own Gaeilge when you are around the school or communicating with us. We are delighted to hear or see Gaeilge and are happy with or without mistakes!!

We also ask you to encourage your child to speak Gaeilge to their friends at any opportunity outside school so that they see the language as a living one which doesn’t stop at the school gate. As part of that effort, a child in Rang a Dó got a special prize this week for having his recent birthday party ‘as Gaeilge’ at home. We also remind you that TG4 and Raidio na Gaeltachta are a great resource for your child and for your own efforts to bring back the Gaeilge. TG4 has a great range of programmes from the cartoons for the youngest pupils through to teenage pop music and drama programmes and of course great sports coverage as well. Try to sit down with your child every now and again and enjoy a programme together.

Cruinnithe Tuismitheoirí/Muinteoirí

Beidh na cruinnithe tuismitheoirí-múinteoirí ar siúl an Céadaoin  agus Déardaoin seo chugainn an 13ú agus 14ú Samhain. Dúnfaidh an scoil ag 2.30 pm an dá lá sin agus iarraimid ort a chinntiú go mbaileofaí do pháiste in am na laethanta sin. Líon isteach am oiriúnach duit féin ar na leathanaigh lasmuigh de sheomra mhúinteora do pháiste nó dean teangmháil leis an oifig chun é a reachtáil.

Iarraimid ort suí síos le do pháiste roimh an chruinniú agus a bheith réidh don gcruinniú. Is seans deas í seo chun cainte le do pháiste faoi conas ata ag eirí le ar scoil agus aon pointe buairte a árdú leis an múinteoir. Iarraimid ort chomh maith cluí leis an deich nóimead atá leagtha amach duit. Má fhanann tu ró-fhada, beidh daoine eile ag fanacht. Má tá gá le níos mó plé, beidh an múinteoir sásta cruinniú eile a reachtáil leat más féidir.

Our annual parent/teacher meetings take place next Wednesday and Thursday the 13th and 14th November from 3.00 to 5.30. School will close at 2.30 pm on those two days and we urge you to make sure your children leave school on time those days. Please fill in the suitable time for yourself on the sheets outside your teacher’s door or contact Eibhlín in the office to arrange a suitable time.

We urge you as well to sit down with your child for a few minutes between now and the meeting to find out how they’re getting on in school. It’s a great chance for you to identify any issues they are having or to be able to give the teacher the great news that all is going brilliantlyJ! Please make sure also that you stick to the allocated ten minutes as if you stay too long, others are delayed behind you. If there is a need for a follow-up meeting or if you are unable to make it next week, your class teacher will facilitate you at another time, if possible.

Díolacháin Leabhair /School book sale

Beidh réimse iontach leabhair Gaeilge agus Béarla ar díol sa scoil ar an dá lá céanna an tseachtain seo chugainn. Taimid an-bhuíoch do Choiste na dTuismitheoirí agus Múinteoir Méabh as ucht an obair iontach seo agus do Khan Kiely ó Khan’s Books a chuuireann na leabhair ar fáil. Faigheann an scoil na céadta leabhair Ghaeilge mar chéatadán do na leabhair a díolfar agus toisc sin tá tú ag cabhrú le leabharlann iontach a bheith againn sa scoil chomh maith.

There will be a fantastic range of Gaeilge and Béarla books on sale in the school hall on the same two days as the meetings next week. We are hugely thankful to our Parents Association and Múinteoir Méabh for all their help in putting this book fair together each year and also to Khan Kiely of local bookshop Khan’s Books for providing us with such a great range of books. The school will get hundreds of books for our school library as a result of your generosity and of course the chance is there to add a special literary present for the coming season. The PA are also still looking for a few volunteers to help out with the book sale on both days from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. Contact Caroline on 087 2330026 or email tuisti@osrai.com . Don’t forget also that our school calendars for 2014 will be available in the next few weeks and make great Christmas Presents!!

Bille Scoile

We are delighted that so many of you have signed up to paying your Bille Scoile online through our Easy Payments facility on the school website or by dropping into the office in the traditional way. Just as a little point of clarification from the last newsletter, your child is of course always covered by our public liability insurance on the school grounds or during school activities at all times. The extra insurance cover included in the Bille Scoile is a 24 hour insurance policy which applies to accidents which take place outside of the school as well and is an extremely cheap extra cover to have for your child. We hope that you all will continue to make every effort to contribute to the costs of providing many great activities for your child in the school and every little contribution we get is a huge help.

Chomh maith le sin, tá árachas 24 uair a chloig á fáil ag gach páiste inár scoil. Muna bhfuil do bhille scoile íoctha, bheadh comhartha ceiste faoin gclúdaíocht sin. Cuid eile den mbille atá fíor-thábhactach ná ár scéim cíosach leabhair. Ar €10 faigheann do pháiste leabhair go bhfuil luach suas go €70 orthu.

Anuas ar sin, táimid ag cahbrú le gach éinne an iocaíocht seo a dhéanamh níos éasca. Tá an chóras ‘Easy Payments Plus’ faoi lán tseoil tríd ár suíomh idirlíon anois. Brúigh ar an gcnaipe ‘Íoc ar Líne’ ar an leathanach baile agus is féidir leat íoc ar líne ansin. Chomh maith le sin, is féidir d’íocaíocht a dhéanamh ina ghallaí chun cabhrú leat.

Enclosed here find the Bille Scoile for this school year. Please remember this is not a ‘Voluntary Contribution’ which has not existed in our school for some time. Rather, this is a payment for some essential services but also for activities which you, as parents, have asked us to provide over the years. These include fantastic activities including swimming, sports and dance classes, all of which contribute to the fact that our school is recognised as an Active School. As well as this your child receives 24-hour insurance cover, inside and outside of school. Your child in our senior classes also receives many of their core class books from our book rental scheme. For just €10 per year, they receive up to €70 worth of books.

While we have consistently reduced the amount of this payment, there has been a fall in the number of people paying. We don’t want to start denying children access to activities or books as some schools do but we cannot continue to ignore those who continuously don’t contribute. The other alternative is that we will have to cut activities which we cannot afford to pay for. The issue of insurance is also a complicated one as people who have not paid their school contribution may have their cover questioned if they need to avail of it. You will also be aware that we are facing into a major building programme which will be in the interests of all of our children and this means that we really must ensure that all of our finances are as carefully managed as possible.

We have also made the payment of the school bill as easy as we possibly can. You are aware that you can now pay almost all monies to the school through a secure payment facility on our school website at www.osrai.com where you click on the Pay Now button. This also allows for the payments to be made in instalments.

We thank all those of you who consistently pay your school contribution and ask all others to please contribute this year in the spirit of fairness to all families. Of course, we again repeat that you should contact us if there are any financial difficulties which we should be aware of. Please arrange a meeting with the Principal to discuss these issues in the strictest confidence.

This programme is carefully laid out and only material which is suitable for your child’s age group will be taught during this part of the course. Tráthnóna Clainne den Scoth/Brilliant Family Fun Evening

Bhí tráthnóna clainne den scoth againn inné agus táimid thar a bheith buíoch do Choiste na dTuismitheoirí a d’eagraigh gach rud. Bhí seans iontach ag tuismitheoirí bualadh le chéile go sóisialta agus níos tabhachtaí fós do bhain na páistí an-taitneamh as an tráthnóna. Buíochas le Dia chomh maith go raibh an aimsire linn.

We had a fantastic and positive family fun evening in the school yesterday evening and we are hugely thankful to all of our Parents Association members and all the other volunteers who did all the hard work. It was a great opportunity for parents to meet each other in a social context and most importantly our students had great fun (particularly watching the Máistir falling off the bucking bronco!!) Thankfully also the weather held fine for us and we look forward to many other great events during the year. Please remember also that we are looking for volunteer helpers for some classes and if you’re interested, please email tuisti@osrai.com. All of the pictures from the evening are available on our school Facebook page at www.facebook.com/gaelscoilosrai.  All past pupils and parents are welcome to become friends of the page.

Lá gan éide scoile/No uniform day

Beidh lá gan éide scoile againn ar an Aoine seo chugainn an 25ú Deireadh Fomhair ar mhaithe le Ionad Uí Néill sa chathair a dhéanann obair iontach ar mhaithe le páistí le riachtanais speisialta. Tá cead ag do pháiste a éadaí féin a chaitheamh ar an lá nó éadaí Oíche Shamhna. Beimíd ag súil le an-chuid cailligh, taibhsí agus creatlaigh a fheiscint ar an lá! Tóg isteach síntiús beag don ionad chomh maith le’d thoil.

We will have a no-uniform day next Friday the 25th in aid of the O’ Neill Centre which is based in the Butts area of the city and does such fantastic work with children with special needs. Children can wear their own clothes on the day or indeed get into the Hallowe’en spirit by dressing in their ‘spooky clothes’. We hope to see plenty witches, warlocks, skeletons and ghosts on the day. We hope you can send in a small contribution to support the O’ Neill Centre too.

MS Readathon

Mar is eol duit glacaimid páirt gach bliain san MS Readathon chun airgead a bhailiú don gcarthanacht MS Ireland agus chun taighde agus tacaíocht do dhaoine le MS a chur chun cinn. Dár ndóigh is deis iontach do pháistí é seo chun níos mó léitheoireachta a dhéanamh. Spreag do pháiste chun a bheith páirteach agus ag léamh sa bhaile. ‘Sé an chabhair is mó a thugann tuismitheoir dár ndóigh ná cupla nóimead a chaitheamh ag léamh le do pháiste. Baineann tú féin taitnemah as chomh maith agus taispeánann an taighde go léann páistí a léann a thuismitheoirí leo i bhfad níos mó na páistí nach bhfaigheann an tacaíocht sin. Lean ar aghaidh leis an léitheoireacht i nGaoluinn agus i mBéarla.

As you know, we take part each year in the MS Readathon initiative to raise funds for MS Ireland to help in their research and support for those with Multiple Sclerosis. The month-long reading project is also a great chance to encourage our children to read as much as they can. The main way you can help is by supporting your child’s reading. All the research shows that children who are read to or whose parents read with them are far more likely to become avid readers and of course those who read a lot are the best learners across the board. It is also a great chance to have some ‘bonding time’ with your child and fitting it in to busy lives is well worth the effort. You can read more about it here. http://www.msreadathon.ie/readathon Keep up the reading effort and don’t forget you can get loads of books ‘as Gaeilge’ from the school, from our local libraries and from our local bookshops.

Seachtain Mata/Maths Week

‘Sí seo Seachtain Mata sa tír agus iarraimid ort do pháiste a spreagadh chun scileanna mata a chleachtadh. Tá an-chuid suíomhanna idirlíne mata chun cluichí agus scileanna a bheith á chleachtadh sa bhaile. Tá cuid de na ranganna ag glacadh páirt i gcomórtaisí náisiúnta ar-líne agus molaimid duit cabhrú leis an iarracht seo.

This week is National Maths Week in which we are promoting maths as a fun and important subject. Again you can read all about it here. Remember that a good attitude to Maths for our children is vital and that might involve us hiding our own traditional fears of the subject! There are lots of activities which you can find online and the Maths Week website is here http://www.mathsweek.ie/

Cruinnithe Tuismitheoirí-Múinteoirí/Parent Teacher Meetings

Beidh na cruinnithe tuismitheoirí-múinteoirí ar siúl ar an gCéadaoin agus an Déardaoin an 13ú agus 14ú Samhain, ach amháin do na naíonáin beaga. Beidh ár n-aonach bliantúil leabhar le siopa leabhair Khan’s ar siúl ar na laethanta chéanna agus iarraimid ort do leabhair mar bhrontannais Nollaig 7rl a cheannach anseo chun cabhrú le leabharlann na scoile.

Our annual parent-teacher meetings will take place on Weds 13th and Thurs 14th November between 3.00 and 5.30 pm. The time sheets for these meetings will be available after the Hallowe’en break or you can phone the school office with your preferred time. Our annual school book fair with Khan’s Book Shop will take place on the same days and it’s a great place to do your Christmas book shopping while supporting our school library stock at the same time. The Junior Infant meetings will take place after Christmas.

Peil na gCailíní/Girls Football

Comhgáirdeachas d’ár bhfoireann peile na gcailíni atá cáilithe arís do leath-chraobh an chontae i gcoinne Scoil Naomh Chainnigh an tseachtain seo chugainn. Well done to our girls who have qualified yet again for the county football quarter-final against our city rivals St. Canice’s NS next week. We will post the arrangements for the game on the calendar of our school website when they are confirmed and we would love a good turnout of supporters. Well done also to our boys on the school’s A and B panels who have a number of games remaining in their competitions. They have played their hearts out this year and we thank them for all their efforts.

Do Shonraithe Teangmhála/Your Contact Details

Cinntigh le do thoil go bhfuil do shonraithe teangmhála i gceart ag an scoil.

Please ensure that all your contact details are correct in the school. In particular, we need the emergency contact number for every child to be updated as well as the correct number for our Textaparent service and the correct email address for receiving newsletters and other communications by email.

Tráthnóna Clainne/ Family Fun evening

Ní raibh deis againn ár dtráthnóna bliantúil clainne a reachtáil roimh an samhraidh agus toisc sin beidh sé ar siúl ar an gCéadaoin seo chugainn óna 4.30-6.30 pm. Beidh caisleáin sugraidh ann do na páistí agus bia agus sóláistí ar fáil do gach éinne. Is ócáid an-deas sóisialta í seo inar féidir le tuismitheoirí agus páistí bualadh le chéile. Beidh fáilte ar leith roimh ár dtuismitheoirí nua.

We didn’t have a chance before the summer to organise our annual Family Fun Evening. It will now take place instead next Wednesday afternoon from 4.30 -6.30 pm. There will be bouncy castles for the children of all age groups and some barbeque food and teas and coffees available for the adults. This is a great occasion in which parents and children get to socialise informally and we would love to see you here. In particular, we would love to see all our new parents attending. Thanks a million to our Parents Association for organising this event.

Seachtain Rothaíochta/Bike to School Week

Mar chuid de Sheachtain Soghluaiseachta na hÉireann agus na hEorpa a bheidh ar siúl an tseachtain seo chugainn, tá ár gCoiste Scoil Glas ag iarraidh ar gach éinne sa scoil rothaíocht nó siúl ar scoil más féidir leo. Cabhraíonn sé i gcónaí má ta tuismitheoir nó caomhnóir sásta dea-shampla a thaispeáint agus teacht ar rothar nó ag siúl le páistí. Má chaithfidh tú teacht sa ghluaisteán, dean iarracht le do thoil páirceáil beagáinín níos faide ón scoil agus rothaíocht nó siúl ón áit sin (sa Watershed b’fhéidir!). Beidh rothaíocht timpeall na cathrach againn ar an Aoine seo chugainn ag 9.30 am agus bheimís buíoch do thuismitheoirí go mbeadh sásta teacht linn agus cabhrú ar an lá.

As part of National and European Mobility Week next week, our Green Schools Committee is asking everybody who can to cycle or walk to school. We are told the weather is due to be great and as always, we ask parents and guardians to lead by example by cycling or walking with your children to encourage healthy lifestyles and good environmental practice. If you have to come to school by car, please consider parking as far away as possible and cycling or walking the remaining distance. Maybe we might consider venues like the Watershed rather than closer car parks just for this coming week. We will have another of our city cycles next Friday morning at 9.30 am and all help from parents on that day would be welcomed.

Coiste na dTuismitheoirí/Parents Association

Bhí cruinniú maith, dearfach ag ár gCoiste na dTuismitheoirí ar an Luan. Bhí tuismitheoirí i láthair ó roinnt mhaith ranganna ach tá roinnt eile nach raibh éinne i láthair. Mar is gnách, táimid ag lorg beirt thuismitheoir ó gach rang chun a bheith páirteach san obair don bhliain. Seol d’ainm ar aghaidh go dtí tuisti@osrai.com más maith leat cabhair a thabhairt. Beidh roinnt ócáidí deasa á n-eagrú ar mhaithe le hairgead a bhailiú á reachtáil i gcaitheamh na bliana. An cinnneadh atá tógtha ná gur ar mhaithe le banc ipads a cheannach don scoil go mbeidh na hiarrachtaí seo.

We had an excellent, positive meeting of our Parents Association on Monday night in the school. There were parents present from quite a few classes but some classes will be asked to have a representative on the committee for the year. We try to get two parents from each class so that the burden is shared. A number of nice fundraising events will take place and we have decided that the purchase of a mobile bank of ipads for the school will be the focus of our fundraising for the year. If you want to help out in any way with the work of the association, please email tuisti@osrai.com to offer your services or ideas.

Bainne Scoile/School Milk Service

Táimid ag tosú ar bhainne a ofráil sa scoil arís i mbliana ag dul lenár bpolasaí de lóin sláintiúla agus mar Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte. Tá billeog eolais ceangailte leis an email seo agus iarraimid ort é a líonadh agus a chur ar ais go dtí do mhúinteoir chomh tapaidh agus is féidir.

We are again offering our school milk service again this year as part of our Healthy Lunches Policy and as a Health Promoting School. The milk is of course supplied by AvonmoreJ. You will find an information leaflet attached and we ask you to send it back as soon as possible to your class teacher.

Íocaíochtaí ar-líne/Online Payments

Cífidh sibh go bhfuilimid ag glacadh le formhór ár n-íocaíochtaí scoile idir Bhille Scoile, turasanna, íocaíochtaí bhainne 7rl trí chóras nua ar líne. Chun chlárú brúigh ar an gcnaipe ar leathanach baile www.osrai.com.  Beimid réidh na híocaíochtaí a thosú an tseachtain seo chugainn.

You will see that we are introducing a new online payment facility for all school payments this year. In order to register yourself for these payments, including the Bille Scoile, school tours and other expenses like our milk scheme etc., please click on the button on the home page of www.osrai.com and register your details. We will have all payments ready to begin next week and hope this service will help make your payments easier. They will include, for instance, an instalment payment facility to allow you spread your payments over the year.

Nuacht-Bhunrán na Gaelscoile/ Gaelscoil News Bulletin 13.9.1

Táimid chun triail a bhaint as slí nua chun nuacht na scoile a thabhairt duit. In áit Nuachtlitir mór fada L a sheoladh gach mí, táimid chun bunrán níos giorra a chur chugat níos rialta anois. Chomh maith le sin, beimid ag baint i bhfad níos mó úsáide i mbliana as suíomh idirlíon na scoile ag www.osrai.com chun nuacht a sheoladh. Tabhair dúinn do bharúil ar seo le’d thoil.

We are going to try a new way of sending you school news. Instead of the monthly and slightly too long L newsletters until now, we will send you more regular and shorter news bulletins. Let us know what you think of this approach. We also hope to make a lot more use of the news and calendar sections of our school website www.osrai.com and in the near future to start posting news to your child’s class page as well.

Turas go dtí tigh an ÁrdMhéara/Trip to Mansion House for Amnesty

Tá ochtar páiste agus cupla múinteoir ag taisteal ar thuras speisialta an Máirt seo chugainn go Tigh an Árdmhéara i mBaile Átha Cliath chun bualadh le agus éisteacht le bean óg fíor speisialta. Beidh Malala Yousafzai ó Phacastáin ag caint faoin slí gur chaitheadh léi toisc go raibh sí ag iarraidh dul ar scoil. Is de bharr gur bhailíomar níos mó airgid ná aon scoil eile sa tír do Amnesty International mar chuid den Seachtain Chairdis a bhí acu go bhfuilimid ag taisteal. Táimid an  bhuíoch do Mhúinteoir Tanya a d’eagraigh na himeachtaí seo dúinn.

Eight of our children and a number of teachers will travel to the mansion House in Dublin next Tuesday to meet and hear Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani woman who was shot and tortured for wanting to go to school, speak. We have been invited by Amnesty international because we raised more money for them than any other school earlier this year during our Friendship Week. Thanks to Múinteoir Tanya for her great work on this initiative and to all our students and you, as parents, for contributing so generously.

Naíonáin Nua/Junior Infants

Beidh ár naíonáin nua ag críochnú ag 12.00 meánlae gach lá go dtí asn Aoine seo chugainn an 20ú. Ón Luan an23ú ar aghaidh, críochnóidh an lae scoile dóibh ag 1.50 pm. Idir an dá linn, bheadh sé deas go mbeadh na páistí ag seasamh ina líne leo féin J Ba mhaith linn a chur in iúil díobh chomh maith nach bhfuil bréagáin pearsanta nó greamaitheoirí ceadaithe sa rang toisc go gcothaíonn siad fadhbanna idir na páistí.

Our Junior Infants will finish their school day at 12.00 pm until next Friday and then will finish their school day at 1.50 pm for the rest of the school year. In the mantime it would be great if children learn to stand in their class line in the morning on their ownJ We would also remind you that personal toys and stickers are discouraged as they tend to lead to rows in the classroom.

Bréagáin ag teastáil/Good toys and games welcome

Tá ár múinteoirí naíonáin ag cur clár nua foghlama Aistear do phaistí óga i bhfeidhm arís i mbliana. Is féidir eolas ar Aistear a léamh anseo http://www.ncca.biz/Aistear/. Mar chuid den obair seo a leagann an-bhéim ar shugradh, tá bréagáin maithe nach bhfuil in úsáid sa bhaile ag teastáil uainne anseo sa scoil. Cuir bréagáin agus cluichí móra, glana agus nach bhfuil briste chugainn tríd an oifig le’d thoil.

Our teachers at infant level are teaching the Aistear curriclum which you can find about here at http://www.ncca.biz/Aistear/. As part of this work we would love to get toys and games which are in good condition and which you no longer use please. You can send them into the office.

Grúpa Cheoil Traidisiúnta na Scoile/ School Traditional music group

Tá Múinteoir Fiona sásta grúpa cheoil traidisiúnta a thógaint arís i mbliana agus táimid ag súil le grúpa maith páistí ó Rang a trí ar aghaidh. Beidh an chleachtadh ar siúl an Aoine seo chugainn ag am loin mhóir san halla. Chomh maith le sin, táimid ag lorg brontannaisí nó iasacht do na huirlisí seo cheoil a leanas-bosca cheoil, fidil, consairtín, feadóg mhór, banjo nó mandailín chun banc uirlis scoile a thosú.

Múinteoir Fiona will take our school traditional music group again this year with practice starting next Friday at lunch time. All pupils from Rang a 3 upwards are welcome with traditional instruments. We are also seeking donations or loans of traditional instruments including accordions, fiddles, concertinas, flutes, banjos or mandolins in order to begin a school instrument bank for those who would like to try them out.

Health Promoting School. Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte.

Ba mhian le Gaelscoil Osraí forbairt mar Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte, ag obair leis an Aonad um Chur chun Cinn na Sláinte. Cuireadh coiste le chéile le déanaí, ar a bhfuil páistí ó Ranganna 4, 5 agus 6, múinteoirí, cuntóir agus tuismitheoirí. Is í Múinteoir Tanya atá mar chomhordaitheoir ar an tionscadal seo.

Is é an aidhm atá ag Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte ná timpeallacht a chruthú ina dtagann gach ball de phobal na scoile le chéile chun sláinte agus folláine a fhorbairt. Déantar imscrúdú ar shláinte iomlán; fisiciuil, meabhrach, mothúchánach, sóisialta, spioradálta agus sochaíoch.

Sa téarma seo, dírófar isteach ar an tionscadal seo le pobal uilig na scoile. Cuirfear fáilte roimh thuairimí a bhaineann leis an ábhar seo. Beimid ag iarraidh oraibh, mar thuismitheoirí, ceistneoirí a líonadh isteach, mar chuid den phróiséas. Díreoidh obair an choiste amach anseo ar na tosaíochtaí a aimseofar sa tréimhse seo.

Le bhur gcomhoibriú, táimid ag tnúth le forbairt mar Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte. Míle buíochas.

Gaelscoil Osraí has recently signed up to develop as a Health Promoting School with the Health Promotion Department, HSE South. This initiative is being  coordinated by Múinteoir Tanya.

A health promoting school seeks to create an environment where all members of the school community (parents, pupils, staff caregivers) come together in a coordinated way to promote  health and well being. Developing as a health promoting school involves consultations, action planning and implementaion of priority health issues.  Health is considered  in its broadest sense including physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and societal.

To date a Working Group has been established (comprising of a health promoting school coordinator, pupil representatives from Ranganna 4, 5 and 6, teachers, support staff and parents).

Over the next few weeks, awareness raising will begin with all members of the school community and opportunities will be given for exploring and discussing health issues with the children, parents, teachers and support staff.

A consultation process will follow, where every member of the school community (pupils, teachers, support staff and parents)  will be encouraged to contribute their ideas and perspective on health matters.  For parents, it will take the form of a questionnaire.

A number of priorities for health will be identified based on the consultation feedback. These priorities will set the agenda- and inform the activities –  aiming to promote health for all over the next 12- 24 months.

In advance, we appreciate your support- in talking about health with your children, in taking the time to fill in the questionnaire and in supporting the promotion of health and happiness for all  in Gaelscoil Osraí.

Holistic health

Health can mean many things to us, for some it is a positve sense of well being, an ability to cope or perform, for others it is an absence of disease or injury. What ever your understanding of health is, it is an individual view. In health promotion,  health is viewed in its broadest sense and is seen as a resource for everyday living. It is considered in many forms mainly, physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and societal. In brief:

Physical health refers to how well your body can work efficiently including physical activity, healthy eating, adopting health enhancing behaviours,

Mental health is your ability to think clearly, your ability to make decisions, your resilence

Emotional health is around recognising and being able to express emotions in a way that is supportive to your health. It also refers to your ability to cope with normal stressors

Social health is being able to relate healthily with others including family, friends, work colleagues

Spiritual health reflects a connection between individuals and the world, and for some may involve religious practices, for others its an appreciation of nature and achieving serenity and creativity

Societal health is around belonging, my contribution to society, it involves promoting healthy and caring communities and neighbourhoods.
