Nuachtlitir Meán Fomhair 2015/September 2015 Newsletter

Nuachtlitir mí Meán Fomhair 2015.

Fáilte chroíúil ar ais ar scoil roimh gach éinne idir foireann na scoile, tuismitheoirí agus ar ndóigh, ár bpaistí iontacha. Fáilte ar leith roimh ár 60 naíonáin bheaga nua faoi chúram múinteoirí Jennifer agus Méabh. Arís i mbliana bhí 140 iarratas ar na háiteanna sin agus is moladh iontach é sin d’ár scoil ar gach bhonn. Táimid ag súil le bliain iontach ag comhoibriú le chéile ar mhaithe le barr feabhais foghlama agus múineadh a bheith againn.

A very hearty welcome back to school to all, including all our staff, you as parents and of course our 436 wonderful students. A particular welcome to our 60 new Junior Infants under the care of Múinteoir Jennifer and Méabh. They were the lucky ones from 140 applicants for those places. We look forward to a great year of learning and teaching which will maintain our standards of excellence but also what we hope is our ongoing atmosphere of welcome and good spirits in what we always hope is a great working and learning environment for all. We look forward to your ongoing cooperation with all of this.

Cumarsáid/Communication

Mar is eol díobh, is scoil an-oscailte sinn ó thaobh cumarsáid rialta libh mar thuismitheoirí. Lasmuigh de na cruinnithe tuismitheoirí/múinteoirí a bheidh ar siúl i mí na Samhna ó Rang na Naíonáin Mhóra go Rang a 6 agus i mí Eanair do na Naíonáin Bheaga, bímid ar fáil chun cainte le tuismitheoirí nuair go bhfuil gá. Tá sé an-tábhactach, áfach, go leanaimid ar fad ár bpolasaí cumarsáide sa chás seo. Dár ndóigh, is féidir nóta a sheoladh isteach agus uaireanta sábhálann sin aon gá le cruinniú. Ba chóir coinneadh a lorg tríd na hoifige chun labhairt le Múinteoir nó an Máistir ag am a oireann do thuismitheoirí agus an múinteoir. Nuair go bhfuil an choinneadh á dhéanamh, ba chóir cur síos an-ghairid a thabhairt mar gheall ar cad faoi a bhfuil an chruinniú, m.sh. ‘fadhb sa chlós’, ‘fadhb le páiste eile sa rang’,’ imní faoi chúrsaí foghlama’ 7rl a thabhairt don rúnaí ionas go bhfuil tuairim éiginn ag an Múinteoir. Níl aon gá scéal iomlán a insint don rúnaí nuair go mbeidh sé á phlé leis an Múinteoir ar aon nós. Nuair go bhfuil cruinniú ar siúl tá sé thar a bheith tábhactach go mbíonn gach éinne ar an dá thaobh béasúil agus gairmiúil ina slí cumarsáide. Ní ghlacfar riamh le hionsaithe pearsanta ó bhéal nó dar ndóigh in aon slí eile. Ná bí ag iarraidh rudaí móra a phlé le múinteoirí ar maidin nó tráthnóna nó ag aon am go bhfuil páistí faoina gcúram acu le bhur dtoil.

As you know, our school is well-known to be a very open one in terms of communicating with you as parents. Outside of our formal parent/teacher meetings, we are also available to meet you at any time if necessary to discuss issues of importance for your child. We do remind you however that it is important for all of us to follow the school’s communication policy. The quickest and easiest way to communicate with your teacher is by sending a note or a quick email to the teacher and this often allows small misunderstandings to be ironed out quickly. If you still feel you need a meeting to iron issues out, it is important that you seek a meeting through the school office with the relevant teacher or with the Máistir if necessary where issues haven’t been concluded with the teacher. This meeting should be at a time that is suitable for both sides. When you are requesting a meeting, please give a very brief outline of the reason for the meeting to the school secretary, for example ‘problem on the yard’, ‘problem with another child’, ‘concern about a learning issue’ etc. There is no need to give a long version of a story which you will have to repeat to the teacher in any case. When meetings are taking place, there is a responsibility on all sides to be respectful and professional in our dealings with each other. Personal attacks of any sort, either verbally or of course in any other fashion are unacceptable at all times. Finally we ask you to avoid ‘door-stepping’ type meetings with staff members. This is particularly the case in the morning or at the end of the school day when the teacher has a class under their care. All of these rules are necessary so that our school can continue to be a place where we value each other’s opinions but where teaching and learning can continue in a professional and caring way.

Bille Scoile

Chun a chur i gcuimhne duit go bhfuil seans agat bille scoile do pháiste amháin a bhuachaint ar ais má tá an bille íoctha agat roimh an 30ú Meán Fomhair. Míle buíochas don iarracht atá déanta go dtí seo.

Suíomh idirlíne na Scoile

Táimid ag déanamh iarracht mhór ár suíomh idirlíne a bheith chomh lán agus is féidir i mbliana. Beidh na dátaí tábhactacha ar fad á chur suas ar an bhféilire agus beidh leathanaigh ranga uasdhátaithe chomh maith. Chomh maith le sin tá cead ag aon duine nach bhfuil mar mhacléinn sa scoil a bheith cáirdiúil le leathanach Facebook na scoile ar www.facebook.com/gaelscoilosrai agus sinn a leanúint at Twitter @gaelscoilosrai nó @Rang6GSO.

We are making a big effort this year to add to our school website at www.osrai.com In particular the calendar section will be regularly updated with important events and we hope that most of our class pages will have some input on your children’s work. Don’t forget also that all the school’s newletters are on the site. You can also follow the school’s Facebook page on www.facebook.com/gaelscoilosrai or our Twitter accounts @gaelscoilosrai or @Rang6GSO

Coiste na dTuismitheoirí

Beidh cruinniú bliantúil Coiste na dtuismitheoirí ar siúl sa scoil ar an Luan an 5ú Deireadh Fomhair ag 8.00 pm. Beidh cainteoir speisialta ann ar an oíche ó Chomhairle Náisiúnta na dTuismitheoirí ag cainte faoi do ról in oideachais do phaiste agus i saol na scoile. Bheadh sé iontach dá mbeadh tuismitheoir amháin ann ó gach chlann más féidir. Toghfar an choiste nua an oíche sin agus bheimis buíoch d’ionadaí amhain ar a laghad ó gach rang sa scoil. Toghfar na hoifigí don gcoiste chomh maith ar an oíche. Má tá suim agat a bheith pairteach, seol ephoist go tuisti@osrai.com le’d thoil.

The annual meeting of our Parents Association takes place n Monday 5th October at 8.00 pm in our new school foyer. We will have a guest speaker on the night who is Sharon Hayden from the National Parents Council speaking on ‘Your role in your child’s education and in the life of the school.’ We will also have the election (or volunteering!) of class reps and the officers of the association on the night. Please let us know if you’d like to play a role during the year by emailing tuisti@osrai.com before the meeting. Given that we have a guest speaker, we would be delighted if at least one parent from each family could attend on the night and we will have teas and coffees and refreshments after the meeting ends.

Páirceáil

Cuirimid i gcuimhne díobh go mbíonn gearáintí rialta againn ónár gcomharsain atá ag maireachtaint sa cheanntar. Iarraimid oraibh páirceáil i gcarrchlósanna ALDI, LIDL nó Smithlands Court agus ligean do pháistí siúl an chuid eile den slí ar scoil, gan nó le tuismitheoir. Tagann sé seo le polasaithe scoil ag spreagadh sláinte, scoil ghníomhach agus scoil ghlas. Ná páirceáil riamh ar na cosáin nó ag cur isteach ar radharc iontrala nó fágála na heastáit timpeall orainn. Ní bheidh an chlós ós comhair na scoile in úsáid arís mar ionad páirceála.

We remind you once again that parking in the vicinity of the school is a source of constant complaints from our neighbours. We ask you to park in the carparks at LIDL, ALDI and Smithlands Court shopping centre and to walk with your child or let them walk from these areas. We also remind you that walking and cycling as far as possible to the school is a central part of our school’s Health Promoting, Active School promoting and of course Green School policies. Most importantly however, none of our parents should ever park illegally on footpaths as this blocks access for a number of disabled people living locally and involved in our school community as well as parents using buggies. It is also vital that access to and clear vision when exiting our neighbouring estates is vital for everybody’s safety. We ask you also to show your children how to safely use the pedestrian crossings around the school. The Board of Management and staff are agreed that the former turning point in the school is necessary for use of our pupils at lunch breaks for play activities and therefore we will not be reopening this system to traffic as it was in the past. We also remind you that only staff parking is now allowed inside the school gates and ask you not to walk through the staff car park at ANY time.

Ranganna Gaeilge

Beidh ranganna Gaeilge do thuismitheoirí ag tosú sa scoil ag Múinteoir Ivan an Luan seo chugainn an 28ú Meán Fomhair ag 7.00 pm. Tá costas €40 ar ocht seachtain ar na ranganna agus is luach iontach airgid é sin.

Múinteoir Ivan will be providing Irish language classes for parents beginning next Monday the 28th September. The price of €40 for eight weeks is great value and registration will be on the night. Leanaigí oraibh ag labhairt Gaeilge le na múinteoirí timpeall na scoile. Please continue with your great efforts to use your Gaeilge around the school. Remember that there is no such thing as ‘Bad Irish’ in our eyes and we won’t be correcting your grammar! Your efforts, however small, have a huge impact on your child’s attitude to the language. Remember also to switch the channel on your radio or TV to Raidio na Gaeltachta or TG4 which helps hugely.

Ranganna Giotáir

Beidh Mark McGrath ag cur ranganna ukulele agus giotáir ar fáil sa scoil i ndiaidh am scoile ar an Déardaoin seo, an 24ú Meán Fomhair ag 3.00 pm. Is féidir áit a chur in áirithe ach glaoch ar Mark ag 085-7132946. Is do pháistí ag leanúint ar aghaidh a bheidh an chéad cúpla seachtain agus beidh ranganna tosaitheoirí ar siúl i ndiaidh briseadh na Samhna.
Mark McGrath begins his guitar and ukulele classes after school again this Thursday at 3.00 pm. Please contact Mark on 085-7132946 for details. The classes for the first few weeks will be for those continuing from last year and beginners classes start after the October break.

Club Osraí

Tá Club Osraí ag rith inár scoil le na blianta fada le cabhair Ógras, an óg-eagraíocht náisiúnta Ghaeilge agus fá choimirce an Chlár um Chríochnú Scoile go bhfuilimid páirteach ann. Tá an club ag athosú an Máirt seo chugainn ag 4.00 pm agus iarraimid oraibh bhúr bpáistí Rang a 5 agus 6 a spreagadh chun Gaeilge a labhairt lasmuigh den scoil.

The school has hosted Club Osraí, our Irish language youth club for fifth and sixth class children for many years. The club is affiliated to Ógras, the national Irish language youth organisation and is provided by the School Completion Programme, which our school benefits from hugely. The club will restart next Tuesday the 29th and we urge you to encourage your child to attend as a great way of experiencing Gaeilge as a living language outside of school hours.

You will be able to purchase the art works, with all proceeds being added to the Rith Beo fund for our Astroturf development. Once again we thank you for your great support this year in paying your child’s Bille Scoile. We remind you that you can continue to pay any amount you can either online or through the school office and all your efforts are appreciated.

Clárúcháin 2015/ Next year’s admissions

Beidh na háiteanna sna naíonáin bheaga don scoil-bhliain 2015/2016 á dháileadh go luath. Bí cinnte go bhuil do pháiste cláraithe leis an oifig le’d thoil nó tá seans go gcaillfeá amach ar áit!

We will be allocating Junior Infants places for the next school year in the coming weeks. Please ensure that your child is registered with the office as even brothers and sisters who are not on the list may miss out if we haven’t received their details. Contact the office if in doubt.

iPads

Tá banc iPads ag teacht chun na scoile go luath le cabhair mhór ón t-airgead a bhailigh Coiste na dTuismitheoirí anuraidh. Beidh 32 iPads ar fad againn agus beidh siad in úsáid sna seomraí ranga. Beidh deireadh á chur lenár sean seomra ríomhaireachta ach beidh na ríomhairí atá ann á n-úsáid timpeall na scoile agus inár leabharlann nua.

We will soon welcome a bank of thirty two iPads to the school. This is one of the most significant pieces of investment being made in our school for quite a number of years and is being made possible by the great fundraising done by our Parents Association last year, as well as a grant from the Department under the Minor Works Scheme. The tablets will be used in the classrooms and are fantastic learning tools. Because of this our old computer room will cease to function and the machines in that room will be distributed throughout the school and in our new library.

Ranganna Gaeilge

Beidh ranganna Gaeilge do dhaoine fásta ag tosú sa scoil ar an Máirt an 3ú Feabhra. Tá fáilte roimh na doine a bhí ag freastal ar na ranganna roimh na Nollag teach tar ais ach tá fáilte mhór roimh foghlaimeoirí nua chomh maith.

Another New Year’s resolution might be to go back to using some of your Gaeilge. Classes for adults begin in the school on Tuesday the 3rd February and new learners are very welcome along with those who attended in the first term. The cost of the classes is €50 for ten weeks. You can book your place through the office.

All offers of help and anybody interested in joining the committee is very welcome. We are hugely thankful to Éimear and all the committee who worked hard on the lovely school calendar which earned more than €2,500 for school funds.

Díolacháin Leabhair Khan

Beidh díolacháin bliantúil scoile leabhair Ghaeilge agus Béarla ar siúl san halla ar an dá lá chéanna. Seans iontach é seo chun leabhair den scoth a cheannach i gcomhair do phaiste fein nó mar bhronntannais Nollaig.

Our annual book fair in conjunction with Khan’s Books takes place on the evenings of the parent teacher meetings and this is a great opportunity to buy good quality Irish language and English language books for your own children or indeed as Christmas presents while supporting the school’s library fund in the process.

Crannchur na Scoile

Táimid thar a bheith buíoch díobh don dtacaíocht iontach le chrannchur triocha bliain na scoile. Tháinig méid iontach airgid isteach an chéad seachtain agus cuirfidh sé go mór le tógáil na scoile atá faoi lán tseoil. Beidh an dara agus an triú tarrac ar siúl ar an Aoine seo agus iarraimid oraibh a chinntiú go dtagann na cártaí ar ais ar an Déardaoin seo go dtí do mhúinteoir ranga le’d thoil. Ná dearmad gur féidir leat nó le haon duine a bheith sa tarrac aon seachtain ar €5 a íoc agus beidh seans acu cuid den €230 i nduaiseanna a bhuachaint ar an Aoine.

We are hugely grateful for the fantastic support we received for the first week of our 30th anniversary school draw. A fantastic amount came in in what we know are difficult times and we have made a great start in raising the extra funds we need for our new school extension, which as you can see is making great progress. Our second and third draws take place this Friday and we ask you to ensure all cards are returned tomorrow or on Friday morning to the school office. Please remember also that anybody can support the draw any week for just €5 and they will be in the pot for the €230 worth of prizes in our Friday draw.

Bille Scoile Buíochas agus Duais
Táimid thar a bheith buíoch díobh ar fad go bhfuil an bille scoile iomlán nó aon chuid do íoctha agaibh. Táimid an-chóngarach anois don méid iomlán a bhailíomar sa scoil-bhliain deireanach ar fad. Is féidir leanúint ar aghaidh ag íoc pé méid gur féidir leat tré oifig na scoile nó ar líne ag  https://www.aladdin.ie/p/6065820497084416 . Is féidir leat níos lú ná na méid iomlán a íoc tré bhrú ar an gcnaipe ‘Change’.

We are hugely thankful for your generous response in paying all or some of your child’s Bille Scoile to meet vital costs the school has and also the costs of the extra sports and other learning opportunities we are providing. You can continue to pay whatever amount you can through the school office or online at https://www.aladdin.ie/p/6065820497084416 You can pay less than the full amount here by clicking on the ‘Change’ button and entering the amount you would like to pay at this time.

Tá áthas orainn a fhógairt gur bhuaigh Paul Kavanagh agus Orla Nic Fhionnlaíoch an duais don gclann a d’íoc an bhille scoile agus faigheann siad bille scoile iomlán do pháiste amháin ar ais dá bharr. Is iar-scoláire í Órla agus is clann thar a bheith tacúil d’obair na scoile atá iontu.

Boscaí na Nollaig

Tá áthas orainn a bheith ag glacadh páirt arís i bhfeachtas ‘Bosca na Nollag’ do pháistí i dtíortha bochta. Táimid ag iarraidh oraibh bosca na Nollaig a líonadh le bréagáin, éadaí agus ábhair phearsanta beaga roimh an Chéadaoin seo chugainn an 12 Samhain agus baileófar iad ansin  chun iad a chur thar lear.

We are delighted once again this year to support the Team Hope Christmas Box appeal where our children fill a Christmas box with small gifts for disadvantaged children in poorer countries than our own in Central and Eastern Europe and Africa. This is a nice way of celebrating the important Christmas message before the madness of the commercial season begins and reminding our children that many are worse off than we are at this time. All the details are on www.teamhope.ie and we would ask you to fill a Christmas shoebox with small personal items like toys, educational aids and new small items of clothing before next Wednesday the 12th November so they can be shipped in time for Christmas.

Comhneartú

Tá dáta an searmannas Chomhneartú socruithe anois agus is ar an Satharn an 9ú Bealtaine 2015 go mbeidh sé ar siúl in Árdeaglais Naomh Mhuire ag 11.00 do Ranganna 5 agus 6. Mar is eol díobh, beidh an Chéád Chomaoineach ar siúl ag Rang a 2 an tseachtain roimhe sin ar an Satharn an 2 Bealtaine i Séipéal Naomh Fhiachra ag 11.00 chomh maith.

The dates for both our Confirmation and First Communion ceremonies have now been fixed. 5th and 6th classes will celebrate their confirmation ceremonies in St. Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday the 9th May 2015 at 11.00 am while our first communion ceremony takes place the previous Saturday the 2nd May in St. Fiachra’s Church, Loughboy at 11.00 am also.

Ceol

Bhí ‘Seisiún’ iontach againn díreach roimh an bhriseadh le beagnach gach rang ó Rang 1 go Rang 6 ag seinnt cúpla tiúin ar an bhfeadóg stáin agus mhair an cheol beagnach uair a chloig. Chomh maith le sin, bhí aoi-cheoltóirí iontacha againn ar an lá, Seathrún Ó Casaide ar bouzouki agus méarchlár, Billy Carrigan ar na píobaí uillinn, Brian O’ Dea ar an mbosca cheoil agus leads iontacha Banna Cheoil Píobaí Móra Chill Chainnigh a d’árdaigh an díon ó halla na scoile. Is taisepántas iontach a bhí ann don dul chun cinn ata déanta againn ó thaobh chúrsaí cheoil de sa scoil le cúpla bliain anuas le chabhair mhór ó Chlár Kilkenny ón CHlár um CHomhlánaithe Scoile, le obair iontach ó chuid d&! rsquo;ár múinteoirí agus ach go háirithe leis an inchur ó Mharhi Baird ó Comhaltas Outreach atá ocht rang ag baint tairbhe as faoi láthair.

Chun daoine a spreagadh chun tacú le na ranganna sin, táimid ag gearradh an táille dosna ranganna gach seachtain ó €2 go dtí €1 an duine. Iarraimid ar gach éinne a dhícheall a dhéanamh chun an méid an-réasúnta seo a íoc. Má chuireann tú i gcomparáid é le ranganna Chomhaltas sa chathair nó ranganna rinnce nó cheoil eile a reacháltar do ghrúpaí móra,  is an-lauch airgid atá ann do mhúinteoir ghairmiúil cheoil.

We had a wonderful hour-long ‘Seisiún’ in the school hall just before the midterm break in which every class from R a 1 to R a 6 played a few tunes and all joined in a few tunes together. We also had fabulous guest musicians on the day including Seathrún Ó Casaide on the bouzouki and keyboard, Billy Carrigan on the uilleann pipes, Brian O’ Dea on the button accordion and the lads from Kilkenny City Pipe Band. The occasion showed the great progress made in the teaching of music in the past few years, with great help from Claire Kilkenny of the School Completion Programme, a number of our own teachers and particularly in the last six months from Mharhi Baird of the Comhaltas Outreach Company.

To encourage everybody to continue to take part in Mharhi’s classes, we are cutting the weekly cost of the classes from €2 to just €1per child. We would ask everybody to make their best efforts to pay this very modest amount which compares very favourably with other group music and dance classes in the city and county, particularly for the services of a professional musician and teacher. Our next ‘Seisiún’ takes place on Weds the 3rd December at 1.00pm and all musicians are welcome to come along including parents, grandparents and other connections of the school.

Páirceáil agus Sport sa chlós

Tá an Choiste Scoil Ghníomhach ag déanamh roinnt mhaith rudaí nua an téarma seo. Tá ranganna cispheile tosaithe le Tommy Clifford tríd an Chlár um Chomhlánaithe Scoile arís agus na páistí ag baint an-taitneamh astu. Má chaithfidh tú dul suas Bóthar an Rath Uachtaraigh, téigh ar aghaidh go dtí an pointe chasadh in aice le Westfield agus síos arís go dtí an scoil. Ná páirceáil i slí a bhlocálann da! oine ag teacht amach ó Smithlands, Patrick’s Gate nó Parcnagowan le bhur dtoil.

Our Active Schools Committee is continuing to come up with new ideas and activities all the time. Thanks to the School Completion Programme, we are receiving free basketball coaching with Tommy Clifford for a number of classes and now the committee are organising a soccer league in the school yard with former Liverpool star and parent in the school Ken de Mange. As a result we are asking that only staff cars are parked in the school grounds and that there be no parking whatsoever between the main gates and the Mario’s end of the carpark. We also again remind you to only drive up the Outrath Road if you have to and when you do so not to turn right into the school but to continue to the turning point below Westfield before returning to the front of the school. Please also remember never to park at the entrances to Smithlands, Patrick’s Gate and Parcnagowan estates.

Brat Ghlas

Beidh searmanas ghearr againn chun ár gceathrú bhrat ghlas do chúrsaí taistil a árdú ar an gCéadaoin an 19ú Samhain. Is iar-scoláire na scoile agus Allstar sa chamógaíocht, Aoife Ní Naraigh, a árdóidh an bhrat dúinn ar an lá agus beidh fáilte le gach éinne a bheith linn.

We will celebrate achieving our fourth green flag on Wednesday the 19th November  at 1.00 pm when past pupil and our first All-star winner, Aoife Neary, will raise the flag we gained for encouraging sustainable transport and travel to school. We invite anybody in the school community to join us and to walk or cycle on the day of course!

Bíonn tinreamh maith inár scoil i gcónaí agus táimid ag iarraidh oraibh a chinntiú go mbíonn bhúr bpáistí ar scoil gach lá gur féidir leo agus in am don scoil gach lá.

Here are our school holidays for the coming year. Because Easter falls early in 2015 we have a week’s holidays in May. While we have very high rates of attendance on our school but we ask you to continue to make every effort to have your child at school every day. To ensure the best possible learning in your child’s class, it os also important that children be on time each day. That means that they should be in their líne in the yard when the bell rings at 9.10 am. We facilitate parents by supervising the yard from 8.50 onwards. Please be aware that there is no supervision before that time and that any children outside or in the school grounds before that time are there at their parent’s own risk.

Éadaí Scoile

Cheana féin i mbliana,tá páistí taréis éadaí scoile a chailliúint. Tá fhios againn gur tré thimpiste go dtógann páistí abhaile na héadaí míchearta ach is féidir leat cabhrú i dhá slí. Bí cinnte go bhfuil ainm do pháiste go soiléir ar gach píosa éadaigh agus seiceáil iad uair sa tseachtain le bhúr dtoi, ag cur ar ais aon rud nach mbaineann le do pháiste go dtí an múinteoir. Tá roinnt éadaí sa scoil le tamaill agus is féidir le aon tuismitheoir teacht agus éadaí a thógaint sara chuirfear iad go siopa Naomh Uinseann de Pól.

Already at this early stage a number of children have ‘lost’ parts of their school uniform. We know that these accidents will happen all the time but we ask you to help out in two simple ways. Firstly, please ensure that every item of your child’s uniform has their name clearly marked on it. Please check the uniform weekly to ensure that your child hasn’t taken somebody else’s by mistake and of so please return it to the teacher. There are also lost items in the school at the moment which can be claimed or taken if suitable before the remaining items are sent to the St. Vincent de Paul shop in the next week.

Ranganna Ghiotáir/Ukelele

Mark McGrath will be recommencing guitar lessons for continuing students from next Wednesday September 17th.

This year it is also proposed to start a beginners’ ukulele class aimed particularly at introducing students from 1st-3rd class to the instrument which is ideal as an introduction to instrumental playing and song accompaniment for younger students.

The ukulele has had a remarkable upsurge in popularity in recent years and is almost identical to the guitar in playing techniques but is infinitely more acessible-particularly for younger children. A reasonable beginners ukulele can  be purchased for around €30, a similar quality guitar costs €70. Mark will hold an informal session and demonstration for interested students next Tuesday Sept 16h after school in the assembly Hall. Any students and parents interested in guitar or ukulele lessons are invited to attend. A limited number of instruments are available to hire at a modest cost for new students.

Class fees are payable in terms- longer school terms are normally broken into 2 shorter terms. Last year’s fees averaged €7 per lesson and are dependent on numbers in individual groups. For further information please contact Mark tel. 085-7132946

Nuachtlitir Uimhir a Dó 2014

Nuachtlitir 23ú Meán Fomhair 2014.
Tá tús iontach déanta againn leis an scoil-bhliain nua agus tá foghlaim, sport agus craic den scoth ar siúl i dtimpeallacht na scoile. Ach go háirithe tá Gaeilge den scoth á labhairt timpeall na háite. Is féidir leatsa cabhrú tríd an méid Ghaeilge gur féidir leat a úsáid le do pháiste sa bhaile, sa ghluaisteán agus in aon áit eile. Cabhraíonn sé go mór má úsáideann tu pé Ghaeilge atá agat timpeall na scoile, ag caint le na múinteoirí agus le foireann na scoile chomh maith. Tá an Choiste Gaeilge ag seoladh ‘Conradh na Gaeilge’ chugat amárach agus iarraimid ort é a phlé agus a shíniú le do pháiste.

We’ve had a great start to our school year and there is great and fun learning and activity going on around the school. We’re particularly happy that all our students have been speaking Gaeilge from the first day back and we remind you again that ‘Riail na Gaeilge’ is the most important of the school’s rules. When you chose Gaelscoil Osraí for your child it was because the language is the heart of what we do. You can help your child by using your own Gaeilge at every chance you get, at home, in the car but particularly around the school when speaking to teachers and school staff. We appreciate every word you speak to us and you should never feel nervous about using your Gaeilge with us. Our Irish Committee are sending you home a ‘Gaeilge contract’ in the coming days and we ask you to discuss it and sign it with your child.
Tae na dTuismitheoirí Nua/New Parents Tea
Beidh caifé, tae agus rudaí deasa againn do thuismitheoirí na naíonáin bheaga in halla na scoile an Aoine seo an 26ú Meán Fomhair óna 1.00 go dtí 2.00 pm. Tá fáilte roimh gach tuismitheoir sna naíonáin beaga agus táimid buíoch do Choiste na dTuismitheoirí as ucht an ócáid seo a eagrú.
We have our annual tea and coffee get-together for our Junior Infant parents this Friday in the school halla from 1.00 to 2.00 pm. Please come along and meet your fellow parents in our newest classes, even if you have older children in the school. Thanks to our Parents Association for their help in organising this lovely event.
Bí Páirteach/Get involved
Beidh cruinniú bliantúil Coiste na dTuismitheoirí ar siúl sa scoil ar an Máirt an 7ú Deireadh Fomhair ag 7.30 pm Beidh aoi-chainteoir againn ar an oíche ar an ábhar ‘Tuismitheoireacht Dearfach- Conas cabhrú le forbairt iompar agus sláinte meabhrach do pháiste.’ Ba bhrea linn dá dtiocfadh tuismitheoir amháin ar a laghad ó gach chlann sa scoil chun an ócáid seo.
Our Parent’s Association AGM takes place on Tuesday 7th October at 7.30 pm. We will have a guest speaker on the topic of ‘Positive Parenting-How to help develop positive behaviour and mental health in your child’. We would hugely appreciate if at least one parent from each family could attend.

We are also seeking volunteers for our School Development Fundraising Committee and people to help out with planning a number of very exciting events over our thirtieth anniversary year. Please contact Máistir Seán if you think you can help out in any way.

Bille Scoile
Ba bhreá linn dá bhféadfadh leat íoc as chostaisí scoile do pháiste chomh tapaidh agus is féidir má sé do thoil é. Mar ios eol duit tá obair iontach ar siúl sa scoil agus tá gach euro tábhactach don scoil chun an scoil a rith. Tá árdaithe beaga tagtha ar an mbille i mbliana taréis blianta de thitim.
Clúdaíonn do Bhille Árachas Pearsanta 24/7 do gach páiste sa scoil agus tá sé fíor-thabhactach go n-íocann gach éinne an bille dá bharr. Tá costaisí na ghníomhaíochtaí iontacha a dheanaimid sa scoil, cosúil leis an ghleacaíocht ata ar siúl an tseachtain seo, damhsa gaelach, snámh agus an-chuid eile. Faigheann tú na gníomhaíochtaí seo ar níos lú ná €50 an pháiste, i bhfad níos saoire ná taobh amuigh den scoil.
Mar dhreasacht do gach duine a íocann luath, beidh tarrac ar siúl do na tuismitheoirí go bhfuil an bille iomlán íoctha acu roimh an 17ú Deireadh Fomhair agus buafaidh tuismitheoir amháin méid an bhille ar ais.
We would love if you could settle up the bill for your child’s school costs as soon as possible please, particularly given all the financial pressures on the school this year with our exciting development work going on. There are some small increases after many years of reductions but we need to meet the costs of running the school with smaller levels of Government funding.
Your school bill covers the cost of 24/7 personal accident insurance for your child including outside of school and for this reason it is vital that you pay your contribution as fully as you can manage. The bill also covers the provision of materials for arts and crafts, photocopying and of course the great range of activities which you as parents have requested like the gymnastics classes started this week, our traditional and creative dance classes and the swimming classes we are so lucky to have on our doorstep. These are all provided far cheaper that you could expect outside of school.
As an added incentive this year, we will be holding a special draw for those who have paid their bille by the 17th October and one lucky parent will get a full refund of their bille for one child. You can pay the bille in the school office or we will email you in the coming days with a new electronic payments arrangement.

Our school homework club has started again and is already full with a waiting list. It is important therefore that you confirm your place and attend regularly as others would love the place you have at the moment. Our other homework club, run by Rita last year will restart next Monday and all those attending last year are entitled to attend. Ceol
Tá Mharhi Baird ó Comhaltas Schools Outreach ar ais linn i mbliana ag múineadh cheoil traidisiúnta le Ranganna 1,2,4 agus 5. Beidh Clár Kilkenny ón SCP ag déanamh ceol le Rang a 3 agus na naíonáin beaga agus beidh na múinteoirí ranga ag múineadh cheoil do Rang na naíonáin mhóra agus Rang a 6. Is Céadaoin ár lá mór cheoil gach seachtain ach beidh cleachtadh ar siúl gach lá ar scoil agus sa bhaile. Do na ranganna go bhfuil Mharhi acu, caithfidh na paistí dhá euro a thabhairt isteach gach seachtain. Iarraimid ar gach éinne cabhrú le se oar mhaithe le chaighdeán cheoil a árdú go leibhéal ard.
Tá an-áthas orainn chomh maith go bhfuil ár gcéad bosca cheoil cnaipí faighte againn ón SCP chun seans a thabhairt do pháistí an uirlis seo a fhoghlaim. Má tá bosca agat sa bhaile, fáilteoimid leo agus beidh Máistir Seán agus Michelle ón SCP ag múineadh bosca do pháistí go bhfuil sé uathu ar an gCéadaoin.
We are delighted to be continuing with Múinteoir Mharhi as aour music teacher through the Comhaltas Schools Outreach (http://www.schoolsoutreach.ie/) programme this year. Mharhi is taking Ranganna 1,2,4 and 5 while the children in Rang a 3 and Naíonáin Bheaga will have extra help from Clár Kilkenny of the School Completion Programme and Rang a 6 will continue with music in their classes. Wednesday is now our ‘Lá Mór Cheoil’ but we ask you to make sure your child has their tin whistle every day for practice and that they do a little bit at home as part of their Obair Bhaile. We are asking all children who attend Mharhi’s classes to bring in €2 per week to cover the costs involved. All of this, along with our school choir and our Grúpa Cheoil are helping to really lift the standard of music in our school.
We are also delighted to have been presented with our first button accordion by the School Completion Programme and Máistir Seán and Michelle from the SCP will be teaching the instrument to those interested on Wednesdays. If there is a spare accordion in your or a relative’s house we would welcome a loan or donation of the instrument to help with this new initiative.

Míle buíochas díobhse mar thuismitheoirí ata ag déanamh an médi sin chun ár bpáistí a spreagadh chuun teacht ar scoil i slí sláintiúil agus inbhuanaithe. Beidh an brat á fáil againn an tseachtain seo chugainn.

Congratulatiions to our Green Schools Committee under the direction of Múinteoir Deirdre on achieving our fourth Green Flag award for transport. Thanks to all of you as parents for doing so much to encourage your children to travel to school in a healthy and sustainable way which means cutting out as many car journeys as we can. We will receive our flag at a special ceremony next week and will have a celebration of the event soon in the school.

Bille Scoile le do thoil!!

Arís táimid an-bhuíoch don méid ata faighte againn ón mbille scoile atá fíor-thábhactach ó thaobh rith laethúil na scoile do. Bheimís buíoch d’aon íocaíocht gur féidir leat a dhéanamh go dtí an oifig nó ar-líne idir seo agus deireadh na bliana.

Once again we give you a gentle reminder that outstanding payments on the Bille Scoile need to be settled as soon as possible. Payments are being made on a weekly basis to people the school have employed at parents’ request to provide extra classes and to cover basic costs and these need to be funded, particularly in a very tight few years with our building project ongoing. All payments to the office or through our online payments will be welcome.

Coiste Airgeadais

Beidh costaisí breise orainn anois chun an síneadh nua dár scoil a cheangail leis an bpríomh fhoirgneamh. Táimid ag lorg grúpa beag tuismitheoirí a bheadh sásta a bheith páirteach i gCoiste Airgeadais na scoile chun a tairgead a bhailiú. Seol ephoist nó teachtaireacht don Mháistir go luath má tá suim agat a bheith páirteach.

We will now have substantial extra costs arising   out of the joining of our new extension to the main school building. We are urgently seeking a small number of parents who would be willing to join a fundraising committee to begin a fundraising drive. We look forward to your support in the coming months and years on this matter.

One of the highlights of the day was our fourth ‘Tae Bán’ get-together in the school halla and a huge thanks to tuismitheoirí Rang a hAon for all the wonderful baking, food preparation and friendly service on the day. The DVD of this event will also be available in the coming weeks from the school office.

Scoil ag Spreagadh Sláinte/ Health Promoting School

Tá ‘Bosca Smaointe’ ag barr an halla anois chun aon tuairimí atá ag paistí nó tuismitheoirí a bhailiú mar gheall ar conas ár scoil a dhéanamh níos sláintiúla.

Our Health Promoting Schools committee have installed a ‘Suggestion Box’ in the school halla for any great ideas as to how we can continue to make our school a Health Promoting one. All ideas from parents or pupils are very welcome.
